The Big 10

Ok, bear in mind I am young with ever evolving tastes:

Five albums I have NEVER tired of:

1. Lacuna Coil- Karmacode

2. The Beatles- The White Album

3. Fleetwood Mac- Tusk

4. Khoma- The Second Wave

5. Bruce Springsteen- Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.

Five I SERIOUSLY love a tad too much:

6. Rush- Moving Pictures

7. Fleetwood Mac- Rumours

8. Bruce Springsteen- Born To Run

9. Lacuna Coil- Comalies

10. Lacuna Coil- Unleashed Memories

OK, in all honesty, this list is pretty immortal.

Could I just mention every Beatles album, all but three Springsteen albums, all of Khoma's work and the complete work of The Juliana Theory and Jimmy Eat World make this list. And about twelve works of Rush.

But three more definitive works:

11. Buckingham Nicks- Buckingham Nicks

12. Bruce Springsteen- The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle

13. The Beatles- Revolver

Hardest thread EVER!

I was going to put Yes on mine too... Genesis also.

Those would have rounded out my top 12.

It was the big 12 at first but I had it all done and hit a wrong button and everything disappeared :rage: :sigh: . I was so pissed and I had to start all over and laziness kicked in and I made it only 10....

I think I had Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo and Moxy Moxy1 on there to begin with. These were big albums to me in my youth. I could listen to Great White Buffalo and Stranglehold live all day.... :)

Don't mean to get weird but we are tapping into the same frequency from somewhere as I had recently thought about doing the same thread with twelve songs. My reason was that my '90s Alfa sedan has a factory 12-disc CD player which until recently had been broken so that you had to disassemble the player to change the CDs. Because of this, I had to think really hard about what CDs I wanted in there as it was a PITA to change them. I since figured out that a tab which depressed an interlock when the door was fully open, allowing the magazine to eject, had broke; thus, I fixed the tab and no longer have to disassemble the CD player, and lost the inspiration for the thread. But since you created the thread, here's mine, in no particular order (not quite the same as my 12 CD changer list as there are double discs here):

1. Rush ATWAS

2. Rush ESL

3. The Clash Sandanista!

4. Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits

5. Physical Graffitti

6. Teenage Fanclub -- Songs from Northern Britain

7. The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society

8. OK Computer

9. The Beatles Revolver

10. Nirvana Nevermind

11. Big Star's Third (aka Alex Chilton's Sister Lovers)

12. Wire Change Becomes Us

Just wish I had the Alfa even with a broken CD player. And hey!! You cheated. Isn't that two Rush albums on your list?... :)

Ah, I missed that part about only one album. Makes me feel better about only picking one Beatles LP. Will have to let go of ATWAS then, as much as that pains me. I guess I'll let go of Sandanista! as well, just to get to your Top Ten format. The pain, the pain...

You prefer ESL over ATWAS?.... :o Ouch :)

They were a better band on ESL .. ATWAS is cool for its rawness, but the performances on ESL are better.. They were nearing thier peak with ESL...

....and Bathory, whom I thought would have posted the most badass of all lists, on page 1, hasn't made a list yet. Very disappointing. Where are the metalheads at?

Hey AR I'm with you. I posted something in the Best Song thread about that very thing. I was waiting for his list. I bet I don't know half the bands.... :( :sigh: :codger:

In no particular order. The proviso "only one album per band" is the killer here.

Black Sabbath: Heaven and Hell

(First album I thought of.)

Rush: A Farewell to Kings

(This took some deliberation. Tomorrow I might choose Moving Pictures...)

Genesis: Selling England by the Pound

(Easy choice. This one's important to me.)

Jethro Tull: Songs From the Wood

(Stand Up and Benefit are contenders as well.)

The Beatles: Abbey Road

Led Zeppelin: IV

(II was my first, but this one edges it out by a hair.)

Blue Oyster Cult: Some Enchanted Evening

(A nostalgic choice. Ask me tomorrow, and it might be Mirrors, my first BOC album. Or Agents of Fortune.)

Yes: Close to the Edge

Styx: The Grand Illusion

(The first non-Beatles album I ever bought. I'd probably hate it if I heard this for the first time now.)

Deep Purple: Deepest Purple

(I wore this fvcker out in middle and high school. Purple albums can be pretty spotty, and this compilation brings (almost) all the best tracks together.

Some of these choices (like Styx) are due purely to childhood nostalgia. But...wow. Life without my beloved Änglagård or King's X. Or AC/DC. Or Floyd. Gawd. Kill me now.

The Grand Illusion aye? Got that on mine too. I just had to include it and I'm not completely sure why. I never even liked that kind of music back in the day. . AFTK would have been my Rush studio choice. Hell, Going For The One may be your Yes choice in a few months.... :)

ESL's like a greatest hits album with crowd noises. love it but ATWAS sounds more like your typical 70s live album - packs a much heavier punch. not so clean and serious. I'd rather listen to ATWAS than ESL but I'd rather watch ESL

Surprised NIN, Foreigner, Dio, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, et.al. didn't make any ones cut. Led Zeppelin seems to be universal.

If ReGorLaTroy ever posts in this thread I bet there will be Aerosmith..... :)

Here's 10 I could live with...

Rush—Clockwork Angels

My favorite Rush Album—period!

Queensryche—Operation Mindcrime

A masterpiece of such superb craftsmanship

Paul Simon's Greatest Hits

Thank you Mr. Simon.

Megadeth—Rust in Peace

Dave Mustaine out did them all with this album. Skull crushing perfection.

Lyle Lovett—Step Inside This House

A double album full of melancholy, beauty, soul, and poetic majesty.

Marty Friedman—Scenes

Teaming up with Kitaro, Marty Friedman created a marvel on a dime.

Loretta Lynn w/Jack White—Van Lear Rose

Told by Nashville elites she's too old, Loretta and Jack created her best work. A monumental record, with every song done in one take.

Stevie Ray Vaughn—The Sky is Crying

Finally sober. Best. Work. Period.

Stevie Wonder—Songs in the Key of Life

"Stevie Wonder's a musical genius" —Eddie Murphy

Mackelmore—The Hie$t

Front to back frakkin' awesome

To the person who asked where the metalheads were :hi:

1. Rush - A Farewell To Kings

2. Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare

3. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

4. Dio - Holy Diver

5. Metallica - Master Of Puppets

6. Megadeth - Rust In Peace

7. Anthrax - Persistence Of Time

8. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son

9. Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime

10. Dream Theater - Images And Words

I'll probably come up with a completely different list tomorrow. There's just too much good music out there but at least I managed to make a list.

In alphabetical order:

Beatles - Revolver

Billy Joel - Songs from the Attic

E.L.O. - A New World Record

Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark

Judas Priest - British Steel

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Vangelis - Heaven & Hell

Yes - Close to the Edge

I know! No Rush! Although Rush has a dozen albums I completely adore, each has a tiny flaw (even if that flaw is that I'm sick of some of the songs).

I could easily add AFTK or Hemispheres or PeW or MP or PoW or CA.

But those top 10 I find flawless.

I couldn't include Black Sabbath's Heaven & Hell, Badfinger's Wish You Were Here, Genesis' Trick of the Tail, Iron Maiden's Powerslave, Al Stewart's Year of the Cat...

Someone shoot me.
