HalfwayToGone
Greatest. Speech. Ever.
rushgoober
One thing no one mentions is how much guts it takes to go and deliver a speech like that. We take it for granted that Alex is hilarious, doesn't take himself too seriously and is a major extrovert. Still, it takes courage to stand up in front of thousands of people, including a lot of the big wigs in the music industry, knowing that it's being filmed and millions of people will be watching it later, and to act out a conversation using facial contortions and the word BLAH for 3 or 4 solid minutes. It was really QUITE a performance!

bathory
well after a minute or so it was just "ok we get it" and then the end was funny but I cant imagine anyone laughing at "blah" nonstop for 4 minutes

Queen of Megadon
It was classic Alex rant. Everything about it was perfection. He remained true to himself, totally stuck it to the Hall and their pompousness, without actually saying it, mimed the story of their journey pretty darn well, and made us laugh. Best thing ever! Todem
I am a monster Alex Lifeson fan. The guy is awesome as a player, person....just a great human being. I though what he did stunk. While I had a smile on my face here and there.....I found myself saying...come on Alex we got the point. At least say something. Blah blah blah blah LOL. Anyway looking forward to the ultimate Rush weekend next week!!!

Everybody was laughing their asses off the whole time. You did not have to be there to either enjoy it or be whatever about it. Neil and Geddy....awesome stuff. Alex....funny for a minute...then the last 20 seconds. Everything in between.....blah blah blah. Edited April 20, 2013 by Todem

Jeffrey
The absolute brilliance of Alex's speech is how he recited Rush's career (including the moment he got the call that they were going to be inducted into the Hall) with his entire skit. Loved it.

bathory
and my point was that some people wouldve laughed at anything alex lifeson said because "wooh rush hall of fame induction, cheer for everything they say!"
rushgoober
ANYhoo... Another thought - I also thought of his speech (such that it was ;) ) as being somewhat analogous to the 2112 story with the band representing the rebel discovering a guitar, the fans being the suppressed society, the RRHOF and musical establishment representing the priests of syrinx and the evolution of the band through longevity and persistence, maintaining a high standard and fan loyalty and adulation eventually winning out and bringing about the elder race coming to free the planets of the solar federation.  just sayin'... ;)

There's a time and a place for that nonsense, and regardless of what you think of the RRHOF, the induction ceremony was neither the time nor the place. I realize Alex likes to play the funnyman, but he could have taken off the court jester hat for one evening. I don't want to sound like a humorless prig, but it was a disappointing display of sophomoric behavior. Maybe I expect too much from Alex.
MMCXII
yet another interpretation of his speech is that it's a comment on decades of bad Rolling stone reviews.. "blah blah blah..."
