Grammy Nominations Announced - Rush Snubbed

Last time I watched the Grammys was back in '89/'90? when Phil Collins won for Record of the Year for Another Day in Paradise. (Was a huge Phil Collins/Genesis fan.) The crap that wins awards now aren't worth my time...as Alex has said, it's all just a popularity contest nowadays anyway....

Why am I not surprised? :sarcastic:

Seriously, if the Grammys can't detect the quality in an album like Clockwork Angels...

That's because they, like their sister organization the RRHOF, no longer recognize quality. They recognize mainstream popularity and sales, nothing more. As you know.

I knew that would come up.

There's a HUGE difference.

Most of the bands who deserve to be in the RRHOF, save a dozen or so obvious omissions, are already in there. Of course I could come up with a couple dozen bands beyond that who deserve it that are just far too obscure to ever get recognized. Of course the fact that those dozen or so bands hadn't gotten in sooner greatly reduces the organization's credibility, but it doesn't change the fact that it still recognizes a majority of the major musical acts of the past.

The Grammys, on the other hand, have always profoundly sucked, almost never recognizing the great recorded musical works. Contrast that with the Oscars. Of course, tons of worthy movies never get recognition, but most of the movies that are nominated are of a certain quality. The Grammys consistently recognize at best medicority, and mostly outright crap.

I fell over laughing at the LA Times outrage that Justin Beiber got snubbed.

Don't 'Believe' in Bieber

( Lawrence K. Ho/Los Angeles Times )

Justin Bieber laughed off his bout of indigestion at a recent concert, but his Grammy lockout might be an even tougher swallow. He's one of the biggest stars in pop, and his new album "Believe" was universally acclaimed for its vocal virtuosity and sonic maturation. But the academy didn't agree, and shut him out of every major category. If there were a year to welcome the Biebs into the rare air of Grammy acclaim, this was it - but the voters were like "Bieber, Bieber, Bieber -- no."

I tried to get through a couple of Beiber songs just to be impartial and fair about casting judgment but I almost threw up in my mouth.

Don't know if everyone caught this but it says Bieber performed with vocal virtuoisty on his last album? Really? Virtuoisity? Doubt it.

He didn't, autotune did.

I normally don't care about the Grammys, or expect anything from them, but this album is their best since the 80's by a very wide margin and deserved recognition. I guess expecting the Grammys to recognize quality is like expecting flies to appreciate roses. They only love shit... like the Grammys.

Goober I know how you feel, but if I recall correctly, they didn't get nominated for those fine works in the 80's either. So this is no surprise to me but I too would like to see the boys get a Grammy! I like to see them get every damn recognition they deserve.

Just awards for pubescent arseholes.Mumford and Sons will win a load, the usual Perry,Minaj,Bieber,One erection brigade will perform lip synching bollocks to screaming kids. You may even get that geriatric stripper Madonna showing her fanny, kissing Britney Spears and saying mofo to a live audience.

Us real musicians and music lovers will just despair.

'Geriatric stripper Madonna'..! :LMAO: ..!

I'll post this quote from Alex's Guitar World interview on this very topic:

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: I mean, everybody knows you guys should be in by now. Does it bother you that you’re not? Do you care?

I really don’t care. I look at it like this: Last week we received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement, which is a very high honor in Canada. And we were also inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame, and all those sorts of things. So, in that sense, I’m quite satisfied with those accolades, particularly the Governor General’s Award. That puts us in the company of some of the greatest Canadian creative minds of the last 20 years, since they started this.

I really don’t feel the need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because, at the end of the day, it’s just somebody’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have a particular process, and they’re welcome to do it however they want to do it. If they feel that they want to exclude a certain genre or certain bands from their hall of fame, they’re welcome to do it. I don’t need to be in there. I have no interest in going there. I think that so long as we keep this relationship, we probably both benefit. If Rush is not in there, the controversy continues, and it keeps Rush fans very pissed-off. There’s some great bands in there that I really respect. Just recently, it was great to see the Chili Peppers get in—I love those guys. But I don’t need it. I have no interest in going, and hope that we never will.

If I was a Rush fan, I’d be like, “No man, don’t do it. Let’s keep this to ourselves, this little special thing.”

I could'nt have said it any better! :rush:

Is there a source for this? Just curious when this article was published. Did Alex say this years ago, or was this recent?

When I first saw Gary's Title Header I instantly thought of Rush being SNUBBED from the RRHOF yet again!

Who cares about Lamemies!

Rush fans should rejoice that our band isn't dragging into such corporate crap!

The boys don't need some stupid superficial shit award to prove that they are great!

Rush is the greatest band in the world.

No one will ever touch them.

F Hollywood and F the corrupt music biz!

RUSH RULES!

They are their own musical entity.

That article came from the September 2012 issue of Guitar World.

I think to never be nominated for trollop awards is a badge of honor. Winning a Grammy meant something once upon a time. I guess it still means something. Just not something good.

In my opinion, these guys only focus on things little teenage girls adore vocal-wise. If there's a group that has a decent singer and sounds better with auto-tune...Boom, they're automatically nominated for something. But, Geddy's voice is so out there compared to other singers. He is in all honesty, out of the normal, when it comes to singing. I personally, think his singing is one of my favorites of all time (aside from Peter Gabriel and select others). But, what these guys focus on are popular, normal talented teenage/early 20's guys. Might as well replace the name "Grammy Awards" with "Disney Channel Awards".

This isn't something that is going to necessarily bother me, really...But, it would be nice to get more attention on these guys because they deserve it so much more than other groups out there. They actually work their asses off to do what they do. These little kids now, these days, use auto tune, random moderate musicians, and other people to write their lyrics and instrumental aspects. It's almost pathetic that you basically have to have sub-par talent to gain infinite amount of money.
