List: MST3K Rush References

Commenting on a letter, Joel says "Very trippy, and I bet you listen to Rush, don't you?" (Episode 213- Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster)

Tom Servo confirms that Joel identified "The Rush Guy" (Episode 213- Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster)

Listening to the movie's soundtrack, Tom notices "Neil Peart on drums." He rhymes "Peart" with "Bert." (Episode 303- Pod People)

Tom Servo also says "Neil Peart on drums" in Time of the Apes (Episode 306- Time of the Apes). He mispronounces it here, too.

Joel Robinson sees a poorly-lit woman and says, "You know, in that light she looks just like Geddy Lee." Crow sounds nauseous... [Note: She really does look like a '70s Geddy] (Episode 504- Secret Agent Super Dragon)

Dead body with headphones on. Crow: "He died listening to Rush." Joel: "2112." (Episode 508- Operation Double 007)

Mike Nelson sees three weirdos and says "Hey, it's the band Rush!" (Episode 516- Alien From L.A.)

Silver Morgan calls home for her sister, Mary Lee, who isn't there. So Crow says, "Well, then, is GEDDY Lee there?" (Episode 601- Girls Town)

Crow T. Robot sees a crate marked RUSH and yells, "Rush albums! Woo!" (Episode 614- San Francisco International)

Seeing the same crate later on, Tom announces "Serum. The new CD from Rush." (also from episode 614- San Francisco International)

Mike says, "Man, I'm so baked right now... you gotta hear this Rush tape." (Episode 804- The Deadly Mantis)

Mike reads Peanut's letter, explaining his miraculous escape to the year 2112. (Also episode 804- The Deadly Mantis)

An air-drumming loser prompts Tom (Crow?) to say "The true story of Neil Peart" in (Episode 907- Hobgoblins)

Mike attempts to recite the opening verse of "The Trees." Crow shuts him up. (Episode 908- The Touch of Satan)

Crow identifies a secluded Canadian cabin as "Geddy Lee's birthplace" (Episode 910- The Final Sacrifice)

While the bots trash Canada during a host segment, Mike says "They gave us Rush!" in its defense. (Episode 910- The Final Sacrifice)

By the way, Rush mentions "MST-3K" and "Gamera (is turtle meat)" in the "Assistance, inspiration, comic relief, and/or just plain friendly service" section of the liner notes on Counterparts.

This little list deserves an award, but there is no applicable award for this thread. I'll invent one:

Biggest Rush Nerd Award

Congrats Birdsong!

I did lift that list off the internet, but I modified it a bit. I knew where to find it because I am an even bigger MST3K nerd. Croooooooooooooooow.

My favorite of the bunch. I remember it like it was yesterday...What a nifty show...anyway: Mike says, "Man, I'm so baked right now... you gotta hear this Rush tape." (Episode 804- The Deadly Mantis)

In a 2003 episode of the Canadian mockumentary Trailer Park Boys, titled "Closer to the Heart", Lifeson plays a partly fictional version of himself. In the story, he is kidnapped by Ricky and held as punishment for his inability (or refusal) to provide the main characters with free tickets to a Rush concert. In the end of the episode, Alex reconciles with the characters, and performs a duet of "Closer to the Heart" with Bubbles at the trailer park

A recent viewing of "the 40-year old virgin" brought out a Rush mention. Steve Carrell is getting his wax job and says "Alex Lifeson" when he's getting his chest hair pulled. This was a cable viewing so it may be different than the DVD...

I believe it is Kelly Clarkson he says; not Alex Lifeson

Alex Lifeson comes out of his vocal chords

Unless they changed it for cable as "Kelly Clarkson" is now a curse word... he says Kelly Clarkson.

[having his belly hair waxed]

Andy Stitzer: [yells] Yooooooooow, Kelly Clarkson!

OK, I still heard Alex Lifeson.

How about the mention of Geddy Lee in "Orgasmo"?

Rush is mentioned/heard in two episodes of <i>Futurama</i>.

The first time, Wooden Bender is leading a group of obsolete robots to New New York. He says <i>"We'll soon stage an attack on technology worthy of being chronicled in an anthem by Rush."</i>

The other time is when Fry is recruited to fight the Space Invaders. He says <i>"Alright! It's Saturday night, I have no date, a two-litre bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix tape. Let's rock!"</i>. Then Tom Sawyer starts playing.

I remember those!

In 2006, Lifeson appeared in Trailer Park Boys: The Movie as a traffic cop in the opening scene

And in the next movie, Countdown To Liquor Day, Alex is an undercover cop dressed as a transvestite prostitute.

Some gems in there:

Fast Times At Ridgemont High, August 13, 1982

[Fast Times at Ridgemont High] During the scene in the record store (35 minutes into the movie) where Mike Damone is giving Mark Ratner his five point plan on dating ("When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV."), there is a row of Exit Stage Left albums in the racks under the "Licorice Pizza" sign (they are between Ted Nugent's Great Gonzos and The Cars' Shake It Up).

The Young Ones, British television series, aired November 23, 1982

[The Young Ones] During the episode titled "Boring", Vyvyan wears a 2112 t-shirt.

Strange Brew, August 26, 1983

[strange Brew, click to enlarge] Starring Bob and Doug McKenzie (Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis), who drive a red van with a Rush bumper sticker. Previously, Geddy Lee sang on "Take Off", the single from the McKenzie Brothers' comedy album, Great White North.

Synchronicity Concert, concert video by The Police, filmed November 3, 1983

[synchronicity Concert] A fan in the crowd can be seen wearing a Rush Signals t-shirt right after "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da".

The Natural, May 11, 1984

2112 sighting: about 46 minutes into the film, when Bump Bailey (Michael Madsen) crashes through the rightfield wall in pursuit of a flyball, two players wearing jersey numbers "21" and "12" race to his aid.

Teachers, October 5, 1984

Three minutes before the end of the movie, as the school is evacuating during a fire alarm, Ralph Macchio asks Nick Nolte "So are you gonna stay or are you gonna go?", Nolte exits the frame and coming up behind him is a short kid with long hair and mirrored aviator sunglasses wearing a gray Moving Pictures t-shirt.

A Nightmare On Elm Street, November 9, 1984

[A Nightmare on Elm Street] Glenn, played by Johnny Depp, has a Grace Under Pressure album cover poster on the wall above his bed.

WOW YOU SURE ARE OBSERVANT LOST. THOSE ARE GREAT.

Lol. I thought that too. I guess we hear what we want to. My wife says it was Kelly Clarkson.

In that clip, I hear "Alex Lifeson" quite clearly! But my husband heard "Yo, yo Slawson!" laugh.gif

There is more than one cable TV version of this movie...gotta be...He says "Alex Lifeson". LIX said it was my Rush bias coming through.

Sounds like Alex Lifeson to me as well. But why would that be funny?

Um...Because it's Alex Lifeson, and Alex Lifeson is funny? confused13.gif laugh.gif

Although I am sure I read somewhere that it was indeed Kelly Clarkson...it is interesting to watch Carell's mouth during the scream. He seems to make an "F" sound with his front teeth on his lower lip. It sure sounds like Alex Lifeson!

Rush got a mention this week on "Penn's Sunday School" (a weekly podcast by Penn Jillette). He was talking about the concept of free will, and he said something along the lines of "Christiopher Hitchens always said 'When deciding on freewill, you have no choice'... and I think Geddy Lee from Rush said that too..."

Bobby Boucher (Adam Sandler) has issues with playin foosball til Mama "gets well" n Bobby his mama and Vicky Valencourt take the fan boat from home, thru the bayou and right into the Bourbon Bowl stadium. As they come out to start the second half....Tom Sawyer fades into the background. Forgot how kinda cool that scene is

There is a creepy scene at the end of a little known movie, "White Noise 2" where a chorus of kid singers are on a stage singing The Spirit Of Radio during a scary part of the movie. Pretty rad stuff in a pretty bad movie overall.

Great Rush sighting on Sunday's American Dad.

Steve and Snot are dressed up like 70's glam rockers, air-guitaring 2112 (Overture).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsbYARvGkx8[/url]

Later on, Snot is living in an apartment building which has the street address 2112 prominently displayed over the entryway.
