I've not watched any films lately I've been watching the original Star Trek.TV show :AlienSmiley:

I want to hear your top 3 episodes when you finish the series. No "ties" and no "maybe"s.

Right.

I've gone back and started again after 10 episodes because I discovered I wanted to watch it in production order! Yeah that's a nerdish thing to do but It's better!! :AlienSmiley: Up to now I'm not sure what my fave episode is I'll have to work on it.

And don't say the tribbles one! It'd be like saying the whale one was the best Trek movie.

The "whale one" is the best Trek movie.

Always playful you are.

No way did it suck but IMHO it wasn't the best. To me it was kind of like watching one of the original episodes that I didn't care too much about but still liked...and only because of the banter between the characters.

I've got a question for you guys, who would win in a fight between Gary Mitchell, Charlie X and Trelane?

Good question.

Trelane might actually be the most powerful of the 3 but he thinks everything's a game and he plays too much so he'd lose.

Charlie X is still a kid and you can still toss him around like a rag doll [that is, if he doesn't first erase your face like he did to the chick in that episode].

Gary Mitchell has no connection to Trelane or Charlie like he did with Kirk, his love interest, or the Enterprise sooo he'd be able to murder both those guys with little to no hesitation.

Anyone else wonder if Trelane was a Q?

I always thought so.

No. The Trelane story was written decades before Q appeared. Paul Schneider, the writer of that original series Trelane story (and other original series stories), didn't envision Q soooo it's not Q. Simple as that. However, comic book writer Peter David saw the similarity between the two so HE wrote a story back in the mid-90s in which Trelane & Q are related. Buuuut that's nothing more than a fan fiction story no matter how good or professional a storyteller that fan is.

I agree but there's another reason why Mitchell would win and probably win easily. He was getting more powerful at a rapid rate, in a matter of days he'd gone from nothing to being able to read minds, physically control people, shoot energy bolts from his fingers, create living things out of nothing (plants), take a full blast from a phaser rifle without any effect at all. And this is just the start Spock said that in a month "he'll have powers that we cannot comprehend".

Well, I'd thought he was, as in a first version of the Q, but I can see your point now.

Ps - isn't Peter David one of the authors of the Star Trek books?

So top best,or top favorites? I know when I worked at the library and we had the originals before streaming, everyone's favorites were the Tribble episode, the one where Kirk travels to the 1930's (and falls in love with Joan Collins) and the one where the flower sneezes on the crew members and they act goofy. I'm not sure if those are anything close to the best written or directed ones though! :D

Has anyone ever seen me pissed on TRF? Not likely. Lack of smileys doesn't mean I'm in a bad mood. It's a misunderstanding. Peter David is a longtime comic writer that wrote a Star Trek story. The story/book was called "Q-Squared". And by all accounts (including David), it was a non-canon Trek story : fan fiction written by a well respected comic book artist/writer.

Really though, I don't even see how this is debatable. The idea of Q wasn't there so how could Trelane been one without some revisionism going on........which often takes place in comics ------->THUS making it more likely for Peter David (again, the comic book writer who wrote the Q/Trelane book) to be in that frame of mind anyway.

This means I'm not in a bad mood: :)

This means nothing at all other than a reference to myself: :blaze:

It's Star Trek. It's just entertainment. I don't care too much actually.

Yeah those are all good episodes especially the Joan Collins one. The spore episode was cool because it has Spock falling in love, another Kirk/Spock brawl, AND one the of the worst thrown punches in Star Trek (AT Bones). I like the Tribbles episode because it has Scotty getting into a brawl without any of the other main characters around. His time to shine and all that. But other than that, it's not that fun of an episode.

One of my favorites was "Amok Time". Spock being in heat and needing to go back to Vulcan. AND it showed yet another Kirk/Spock brawl. Also up there would have to be "Space Seed" , the one with Khan----> Montalban as the most interesting villain (and probably the best portrayed) in Star Trek history IMHO.

Yes, ha ha, I remember that punch in the spore one; I think because all Bones wants to do is sit around drinking a cocktail the whole time ! "Amok Time" was always a great one, with Spock being so unSpock like. Oooh, Khan, I had not thought about the TV episode with him in awhile because of the movie being so good, but that is a great episode too. As opposed to the one where they steal Spock's brain; my sisters and I always hated that one!

I've not watched any films lately I've been watching the original Star Trek.TV show :AlienSmiley:

I want to hear your top 3 episodes when you finish the series. No "ties" and no "maybe"s.

Wasn't the Spock's brain one the episode in which Bones is controlling him like an RC car?

Good question.

http://furiousfanboys.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/trelane.jpg

Well, I'd thought he was, as in a first version of the Q, but I can see your point now.

Ps - isn't Peter David one of the authors of the Star Trek books?

I just said that

You get up on the wrong side of the bed today or something? I think she was referring to the books not the comic books.

It was your tone that sounded peeved. I was surprised since you have always seemed like a friendly guy. I think you're missing my point though. I just meant in the Star Trek universe to me he could have been a Q. Not what he was written to actually be, but looking on the series as a stand alone entity in itself.

Eaglemoon, anytime I might sound peeved is almost definitely due to my laziness in typing something. My occasional short answers that might sound curt.

I'm not missing the point. I'm a comic book guy. And Star Trek is comic book stuff. Yeah, I get it, Q is similar to Trelane. But I even highly doubt that when they originally wrote Q they were thinking of Trelane. Superpowered, quasi-omnipotent types...yeah, they've been done constantly here and there and everywhere.

He was mad as hell and now he's ready for revenge just like this guy, you have been warned! :AlienSmiley:

Oh sure they have but in the Star Trek universe there haven't been quite as many. I just thought it was an interesting thought.

There's been more than you think, Gary Mitchell, Charlie X, Trelane all in the first half of season 1 of the original Star Trek.

Yes!

I always thought it looked like Spock was unclogging a toilet barehanded (or at least with those thick gloves) in that scene!
