Mick, do you get Meat Loaf vibes during the first track because I do lol.

Disc one is very good. I can do without the go nowhere second disc though. Disc one is more than enough. All very good songs and it doesn't over stay it's welcome which can be a problem with albums today. They're changing up the sound enough to stay fresh while still ultimately sounding like Nightwish.

YES!!!! it opened like a Broadway show. and Meat Loaf is essentially Broadway on Steroids. so Definite Meat Vibe.

Also, did you find the singles had more punch in context with the rest of the album?

Harvest is a mega fav of mine on the album now.

I do like the way Music goes right into Noise. But I like both singles as much as I did before hearing the album. I think Noise is a good stand alone single. Harvest does sound better in the context of the album. While I like the song I'm not sure I would have made it a single. I can see how hearing Harvest on its own might turn some people off.

Favorites so far are Shoemaker, Pan and Endlessness.

We have the same top three.

My "criticisms" above are literally the only things I could find that I didn't "love". That's barely anything!

How do you find Procession? That's the song that grew on me the most from first listen to now.

I like Procession but I still have to hear it a few more times to remember how exactly it goes.

I was saying to Mick earlier that I've come to really love it, it gets me all tingly, and it feels like an interlude. Just really like it's vibe.

My least favourite song is How's The Heart, and it's a perfectly lovely song.

I treat the second disc more as a follow up to Scrooge than I do a Nightwish album.

I'm excited for this!

After Forever/ReVamp/Northward are all terrific bands. Solo Floor would be amazing!

I just discovered this band and all I have to say is that they remind me of what Dream Theater would be if they could write decent melodies and had good vocals.

I really like this what I am hearing.

The only thing they have in common with Dream Theater is that the keyboards have a prominent role in the songs. With Nightwish the keyboard drives everything while with DT it's the guitar.

Nightwish is currently on their third vocalist. So, I'm not sure what you've heard already but there are a few different eras to explore.

Epica and After Forever remind me more of Dream Theater.

Nightwish have DT inspiration, but that's not the most obvious inspiration I hear. Still, not the worst comparison I've heard.

I was really just poking fun at DT who drive me nuts with all their wankery.

I was listening to live stuff on you tube which was a mix of era's all sang by Floor Jansen.

Today I am starting with Human Nature and working my way back one album at a time.

Not the album I would start with considering none of the live material you heard comes from that.

Try Century Child, their best album with original vocalist Tarja Turunen. Then listen to Dark Passion Play. Their best one with Annette Olzon on vocals. Finally, listen to Endless Forms Most Beautiful which is the first album with Floor Jansen.

All are much better introductions to the band's studio work than the new album is.

My three choices as well.

Once is the major fan favourite, it's not mine but it's mostly a fantastic album.

Human Nature is a good starting point, if you want to be blown away even more from this point onwards haha

For shite and giggles, this is how I would rank their albums:

Essential listens:

Century Child (2002)

Dark Passion Play (2007)

Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015)

Follow with:

Wishmaster (2000)

Once (2004)

Imaginaerum (2011)

Save for later:

Angels Fall First (1997)

Oceanborn (1998)

Human Nature (2020)

Too late. Already finished the Human Nature. I liked it alot.

I guess the band is ruined for me now?

This is a technique I use whenever I discover a band that is new to me but has a deep catalog. I find long time fans always seem to hate the new stuff because they are comparing it to the old stuff. So I start with the new and work back. If the band is really good and I make it through the whole catalog, I find I appreciate the new stuff more than long time fans who experienced each album in the opposite direction.

In all honesty, the new album is great.

But Nightwish at there worst is still a great introduction to the band. Don't stop!

I've been a fan of Nightwish for fifteen years, and have consistently loved each new release either as much as, if not moreso, than the last.

I recommend Human Nature. It has plenty to offer to new fans, just not so much older fans (although it's been a hit with the fanbase).

If you start with the latest Nightwish, and this goes with every album they have ever had, and you enjoy it, it's great to keep going.

Honestly, Nightwish for me are one of the few bands to have surpassed their twentieth anniversary where every album has not only grown their fanbase, but actually pleased large numbers of older and newer fans about equally.

They have yet to dip, at least in the way Maiden and Priest did in the nineties.

No, they're not ruined for you. I like Human Nature. It's just lacking something that makes Nightwish special. There's a missing energy to that I can't quite explain.

I'm not sure what bands you normally listen to but hating on a bands new stuff is reserved for the stuck in the past kind of crowd. Nightwish doesn't have many fans like that left.

What is everyone's general impression of Floor Jansen? I think my favorite songs are the live version of old songs sung by her. Her voice is so versatile.

For instance, a standout song for me is She is my Sin and I watched a live video from 2003 with Tarja singing. Now you can tell that she has a great operatic voice but that version is not even close to as good as the 2013 Wacken festival version sung by Floor. Does thinking that make me a newb?

Floor Jansen is one of my top five vocalists of all time.

Her work with Nightwish is incredible, but I rate her studio work with After Forever much higher.

Check out Remagine and the self titled.

After Forever and Nightwish...hard to choose between them for me.

Nope, nothing wrong with that. Floor is the best overall singer they have ever had and my favorite. She is an incredible live performer and does sing a number of those older tunes better than the originals. I'm guessing you've seen her performance of Ghost Love Score? The way she does that song has pretty much earned her eternal love from the fans.

My only knock on Floor is her studio work with Nightwish. Her voice comes off too soft and subtle a lot of the time and it feels like she's holding back vocally for some reason. She shines best live, so maybe she prefers to save it for when she's on stage.
