Trumpet is another instrument barely used in rock. Yet, it is a fabulous one and there are some greats out there. Who is your favorite?

Doc by far! I saw the Tonight Show band when they did a tour years back, and, while they were ALL amazing musicians, Doc played his ass off like crazy!

 

I met Maynard Ferguson once at one of his concerts, and I've never met a bigger douchebag in my entire life! Not to mention his "over blowing" of every solo he attempted! EVERYTHING was WAY too high, and not musical at all!

 

One guy that should be on the list is Al Chez from Letterman's band, I know him from my years of marching in drum and bugle corps! He played the SWEEEETEST version of "What a Wonderful World" at a friends wedding!

Wynton Marsalis is the best overall trumpet player. Can do anything.

I own every Miles Davis CD that can be owned, but Wynton Marsalis is a just amazing. He is like a combination of Miles and Duke.
