I like the vanilla custard filled, chocolate frosted donut.... if I'm gonna have one, like i did today (free due to the retirement of a great leader here).

Standard (frosted, chocolate, chocolate frosted, sour cream are some of my faves). Never liked custard, don't like whipped cream in donuts, and I OD'd on jelly donuts, so I avoid those (I call 'em landmines). The long ones and rolled ones are good, but I'm partial to the traditional shape.

I like standard. Glazed and chocolate cake are the best.

Voted cruller, but my real favorite is the simple chocolate cake doughnut with just a little glaze.

 

The old standard doughnuts are only good when really fresh. Then they get hard and tough.

Actually, the best donuts ever, in standard form, are apple cider donuts: they are small and are mostly found in autumn in the Northeast. Three varieties: plain, cinnamon and cinnamon/sugar.

 

 

These, without a doubt, are my favorite.
