Actually, I love SSOTS. It was one of the first Yessongs I heard, along with its introduction piece, "We Have Heaven". Severely underrated track; there's an excellent performance of it on the Live at Montreux DVD.

While not a huge Yes fan like many of you, they do have some good tunes. I am surprised none of you have named my favorite yes song...South Side of the Sky.

Check out the keen cover of 'SSotS' by Glass Hammer on EweTewwb

Not a favorite of yours?

I debate between that and Close to the Edge as to what is my favorite

Love that song. It was one of the first Yes songs I've heard. Rick Wakeman's piano is great.

The first few minutes of Dream Theater's Best of Times

I like in Wither when they sing:

Like reflections on the page

The worlds what you create

And the solos right after, esp the drum rolls.

"Find the Place, Turn the Water into Wine"

BC&SL is one of my favorite DT albums, in the top 5.. Wither is a really inspirational song (though pretty cliche tongue.gif ).

I've seen them twice, wasn't a huge fan but appreciated their playing ability. I can honestly say Black Clouds is a great sounding album. They simplified their playing and focused more on making songs sound good, rather than complex solos.

Always loved the part in "In My Time Of Dying" where Jimmy's riff sends the song on a faster pace after the blues-tinged verses in the beginning.

Same here biggrin.gif .

The guitar solo of 'Time' or any guitar solo by David Gilmour for that matter.

Dream Theater - "Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper" : the guitar / keys shredding during 4:43-4:55 and again during 7:01-7:23.

Metropolis pt 1

5:48 - 6:18

7:22 - 9:32

The Dance of Eternity

1:42 - 3:21

^ DT haters can keep telling themselves this sucks tongue.gif

Michael Schenker's solo in Rock bottom. At 1:21 he bends a high string twice, in a way that comes right through the headphones and tickles my soul.

Alex's solo in live version of "A Passage to Bangkok" off my Chronicles CD. For a long time I never liked the song itself but was blown away (still my favorite solo ever) by the solo...so I would actually FF to the solo part and change tunes after. Eventually I tired of hitting the FF button and now APTB is one of my fav Rush songs. Odd how that can sometimes work..a song you immediately like you may soon tire of, yet another that takes a long time to get into can become an all time classic.
