Who else hates Porcupine Tree?

it took me some time to get into them. It wasn't instantaneous by any stretch. Now I love them. Some things still require nurturing, which is increasingly harder to do for a society of downloaders, quick browsers, etc. Often the things that jump out to me right away suck in two months because there was little substance behind the "hook."

Give "Way Out Of Here" a try. That song is wicked good. Nil Recurring ain't no slouch either. 1022.gif

Actually, I think that if a person loves FOABP then they must get Nil Recurring.

And merge the two CDs into one for an awesome listening experience.

I can understand people hating Wilson's vocals and lyrics but they are all excellent musicians with Gavin Harrison the crowning glory.

Fantastic band! Love all their albums.

THat's ok...I hate half the bands people go apeshit over on this board. No skin off my nose. biggrin.gif

I agree. Why even start this thread? I don't see any reason to start a whole thread to bitch about them. But, that purpose seems to be backfiring anyway, so...

Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream are both really good, IMHO. Especially Stupid Dream.

Stranger by the Minute is a very atypical PT song, but it is one of my favorites.

Give "Way Out Of Here" a try...

it's been a while since I've tried PT on, and I'm in a good 'new music' mood (today I d/l'd an album's worth of interesting new music from a dozen artists I'd never checked out) so I'll take up the challenge

ok...

let's cue up 'Way Out Of Here'

first minute and a half

> hmm... not bad, kind of like 'Brave'-era Marillion ('94) - for a record that came out in 2007, though, it's a little dated

the chorus

> ugh - and once again, I'm out

that 'tween tv show' autotune epic soundtrack type of stuff just does nothing for me

I suppose if I'd been brought up on The Hills and True Blood this might resonate for me, but without that touchstone - nada

it's undeniable at this point that any and all 'prog' references made regarding PT are wholly superficial

sure, they picked nice window dressing, but there's nothing behind the curtain

yadda, yadda, yadda ya whiskey-snorting chucter.

Hogarth-era Marillion is Garfunkel without Simon. Pointless.

Nil Recurring is great. Normal and Cheating The Polygraph are 2 of my favorite PT songs.
