toddnbeth
Having never been up front at a show, I am considering getting some seats in the first 2 or 3 rows for Vegas, cost be damned. The closest I have been previously was first row center behind the pit at Nokia, and the view was perfect. My question is, is the view really that great from that close? Obviously I will be close to Alex and Geddy but I am wondering if I will even be able to see Neil from there. Money is not the primary issue at this time, its just that I dont want to spend the big bucks when I might have had a better view and better sound for a lot less money. What do you guys think? iluvgeddy05
I do think it depends on the venue. Some front row seats are further than other front row seats at other venues.. At crappy venues (lol), you're far and looking up at the band. Others, you're maybe 1-2 feet from the stage and it's neck/eye level. You can see Neil great and you can tell when he's looking at you too
iluvgeddy05
My front-row thread from last time, complete with pix: http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?show...ddy05+front+row Anyways, if money is no object, DO IT.
Finding IT
So my voice has already been heard in this thread. One other cool thing. You actually get to interact with them, especially Ged. In terms of interaction, second row is as good as first. When the show starts, the front row folks go immediately to the railing against the stage. This leaves a lot of space between the first and second row. I took my wife to her first Rush show early in the S&A tour at Nissan Pavilion. At some point late in the first set, Alex was looking across the stage and giving me a very strange smile. I smiled back, but it was really kinda creepy. Then I noticed he was really looking at my wife and that my wife was smiling back at him. The guy next to me goes, "Dude, Alex is totally hitting on your woman." I pointed at Alex and shook my fist but he just laughed and walked away.

lerxt1990
The money for the front never seems worth it, until you walk towards the stage, and your 20-25 rows away, and then it hits you youre "up there". Totally worth it, at least once. What I will agree on is that it does also pay to sit farther back too, to really take in the whole show, and also to see some crowd in frotn of you jumping, clapping, etc. And Im another one to say from personal experience, the sound in that spot between Ged and Alex, back to maybe 10-15 rows can be downright awful, muddy, weird. toddnbeth
Well, I have decided that, since you only live once, I have to do this at least once in my life and this is the time. Hopefully I will have my credit card paid off before they start the next tour!
Patty
One thing to consider about spending a lot of $$ on front row is that many venues ADD another row in front of the front row for contest winners, etc. Before you buy, make sure that your front row ticket is really in the front row! Otherwise, it's a real blow when you get to the show and realize that you're not going to be standing at the rail.

kbomb106
Sometimes, it's just good timing. That front row seat I have in my pic above was face value. In fact, funny story: In the first presale (Mastercard, maybe?), I got 15th row. Awesome, right? In the MusicToday presale, I got 10th row. No way I'd beat that, right? Just for shits and giggles, I checked out the general sale. About 1/2 hr into the general sale, I pulled that up. I never paid a penny above face value for any ticket I've gotten. Of course, you won't always be that lucky; I probably never will again. I'm just saying that it's possible to score good seats without overpaying. dakota2112
Up-front seats located in between Ged's mic and keyboards are the Boardwalk and Park Place of a Rush show, imho. You get plenty of that eye-contact interaction deal going on there. And that is pretty frigging cool Problem is, venue seating charts are almost never drawn to scale and it can be somewhat of a gamble trying to figure out exactly where you're going to be. Prime Mover and Shaker
It's worth doing once (especially at face value, like I did). Maybe it's worth $350 for a swag bag and front row... I go back and forth on that. But the sound is better 20 rows back.
Some Half-Forgotten Stranger
From the front row in '86. SiriusRushFan
When they come to the D.C. area show in Bristow every tour, we always like the 2nd row, because the front row there isn't quite as close to the stage as in that cool pic from the last tour that kbomb106 showed in this thread. A lot more security guys were in the front last time we saw them there also, just kind of staring at the front row peeps the whole time. lol So anyway, we just finished buying our 2 tickets from Vividseats.com for the 2nd row from the front as usual, Section 2, right in the middle for $1679. Last tour we were 2nd row right in front of Geddy and it kicked ass but we kinda wanted a bit more center action this time. We decided to get our tickets as soon as possible this tour because as you can see by the tour dates, they ain't coming to a boatload of states this time, and a lot of people are gonna have to drive a ways to see them so, we didn't want to take any chances and scooped up on ours right away. Can't wait!
toddnbeth
Well, I ended up in Floor B row C, which should be 3rd row. I used the TM auction. A little disappointed that I lost out on row B, but I had to draw the line somewhere, and when row B jumped up to $930 minimum bid, that was it for me. The good news is that I am dead center so it should be great. This is the closest I have ever been for Rush so I cant wait!!! Thanks again all for the advice. See ya in Vegas!!!!! Paridoxically, it's actually better imho to be at least 30-40 rows back, from my experience. I had front row on first leg of S&A and I stood ten feet in front of alex. Up that close, it's like Alex is playing in your living room, which sounds cool but it just doesn't look that "huge". (also, he kinda gave me dirty looks when i took cell phone pics. hehe) I mean, it's cool to see if you never have, but I prefer front row in the lower bowl facing the stage. Those are the seats I personally love the most. Bring binocs if you wanna see what neil is doing. It's much more exciting to be back a ways, if you ask me...
