Test4VitalSigns
In my family there was one person who lost their life in WW2...my grandma's 19 year old uncle was slaughtered in the unfortunate and deadly Dieppe Raid; Canada's most tragic event when it came to war. I salute all soldiers who gave up their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice to fight for freedom and I salute all the vets who made it home and survived the horrors of war so that we can live our lives the way we want to live our lives. Thank you for your service.

Its too bad there will always be wars to fight, cause they rarely make any sense, but thankfully our servicemen serve us no matter what. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!! Sonatine
My sincere thanks to all those fought and died for the sake of freedom & democracy that I have enjoyed in my life. And to honour those that gave their lives for their country in the struggle to keep us free from such tyrany. I wear my Poppy with pride.
Test4VitalSigns
Battle scene from excellent Canadian war movie "Passchendaele" warning...brutal violence and some language but this is a good indication of what soldiers went through fighting trench warfare in WW1. Hatchetaxe&saw
In rememberance of my Great Uncle, who perished on board the light cruiser HMS AMPHION, August 6th 1914, the war was but a pup. ANTHEM FOR DOOMED YOUTH - Wilfred Owen What passing bells for those who die as cattle? Only the monstrous anger of the guns. Only the stuttering rifles rapid rattle Can patter out their hasty orisons. No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells, Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs, The shrill, demented choir of wailing shells; And bugles calling for them from sad shires. What candles may be held to speed them all? Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. The pallor of girls brows shall be their pall; Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds, And each slow dusk a drawing down of blinds.

vaportrailer
Sorry, I thought there was a more recent thread, but couldn't find it. I had a moment of silence at 11:11am. I think that it's an important moment to consider, especially in light of how foolish we continue to be (and how we willfully ignore the past). My dad was a WW2 veteran, and I know that his experiences affected him very deeply.Never forget.
