My Top 5 are.

in order

1. The Yes Album

2. Relayer

3. Fragile

4. Close to the Edge

5. Going for the One.

Mick

We seem to have the same top 5... just shuffled around, lol

lol. great minds eh?

I can't speak all for Segue.......but Tales WILL be in his top five. He adores that record.

Tales is near the bottom for me. To overblown for it's own good. jusy my opinion.

Mick

I like Tales, but I agree that it's a bit too overblown, and there's a bit too much filler for it to make it into my top 10. Revealing is one of my favorite Yes songs though...

It was so bad it Rick Wakeman said see ya bye, lol

Mick

Does anyone else think that Rick Wakeman is a flaming hypocrite for leaving Yes for being "too overblown", but then releasing Myths And Legends of King Arthur a few years later?

It wasn't a few years later- it was about 18 months.

But actually, no, I don't think it was hypocritical, necessarily. The shortest song on Topographic Oceans is...eighteen minutes and change, I think? Four songs, or suites, rather, over two records. The King Arthur album is seven songs, I believe, on one record. (I have it, and I can't remember for sure whether it's six songs, or seven, or eight- but I think it's seven).

If 'overblown' is relative to indulgent song length, then it's not hypocritical at all. If it's relative to thematic pretense, then...well, maybe, yeah.

But I don't care. "Guinevere" is one of my favorite songs, ever.

About half of it... I love Revealing and like Ritual, but Remembering drags a bit and Ancient is a mess.

Every second is precious.

I mean EVERY second.

I cannot play one song. Tales is an album to play in one sitting. And i just LOVE THE WHILE THING.

It moves me, in a way that i cannot explain.

And he may have hated it, but Rick Wakeman was on fire! Relayer is like the amazing fifth and sixth side to this sexy beast orgy of aural tastiness. But i do miss Wakeman, as much as i wouldnt change Relayer for the world. Both perfect...

I am loving GFTO, CTTE and Fragile more and more as well!

I Love Patrick Moraz's playing on Relayer. So much frenzied playing......i just love it.

Mick

I do. I really, really do. Relayer is getting better and better as well. I kind of see it as Tales 2.

And the artwork to both albums blow me away! Then GFTO comes along and just...adds to the greatness...

Close To The Edge is a grower. Such intricate arrangements...so much depth i am still digging out the treasures!

As much as i love cheese, Yes' more commercial work leaves me cold (in comparison).

There are prog bands who have done the commercial thing better. Genesis comes to mind.

Relayer . I kind of see it as Tales 2.

I agree with this too. You are on fire my friend.... :)

relayer is jazzier and shows more restraint than tales

Jazzier tone comes from Moraz really. He was trained in that i believe.

So you like Relayer?

I think the reason i enjoy Tales so much is because i am already a jazz fan, and Tales reminds me a lot of albums like Bitches Brew or In A Silent Way.

Same as Relayer.

I am glad they toned it down though, as the world needs albums like GFTO.

Relayer isn't my favorite Yes album... but it does contain my favorite Yes song in Gates. I really like Soundchaser as well, but TBO, while I still like it, keeps it from the top 2.

I definitely agree with that.

I also agree with len about Relayer, though- I love The Gates of Delirium, but side 2 doesn't do a lot for me.

So far, my Yes ratings:

Yes 10/10 (I am not even being generous, this is stunning!)

Time Is A Word 7/10 (A little over ambitous. But quite marvelous)

The Yes Album 10/10 (Wow.)

Fragile 9/10 (Not quite sure why I am not giving this a 10, but I am not obsessed with this one. But a fault is impossible to find.)

Close To The Edge 10/10

Tales From Topographic Oceans 10/10

Relayer 10/10

Going For The One- 10/10

Tormato 6/10

Drama 4/10

90125 7/10

Big Generator 7/10

Amazing band. Will be getting the live albums Yessongs and Keys box set next.

I am very easy to amuse and abuse.

I don't mind not agreeing on Yes. Especially when I share your adoration for GFTO.

Using a weighted hexadecimal scale:

Yes: A

Time and a Word: 9

The Yes Album: D

Fragile: E

*Close To The Edge*: 10

Tales from Topographic Oceans: B

Relayer: D (maybe E on a good day)

Going For The One: C (maybe D)

Tormato: 9 (note that this is still "good")

Drama: B

90125: A

BG: 7

<Union: 3>

Talk: 8 (Still good but coming close to merely "decent")

Open Your Eyes: 4

The Ladder: A

Magnification: B

Fly From Here: 7

Heaven and Earth: 3 (If this is their last album, then it may honestly be one of the worst "goodbye" albums ever, especially for a band as great as Yes)

Can you do a scale of 1-10 please...this way is too annoying for my little mind.
