Just Caught up....

I have not Marathoned a show like that since I first started watching LOST.......

Now I can go back and read the last 18 pages of this thread.

I will say this, I was privy to one spoiler before I started watching... I knew Rita would die in season 4...not how, but I knew it was going to happen...

And that is one thing that irked me about season 5... is how Dexter got all tore up over Lumen leaving him at the end of season 5, but not shedding a tear over Rita..... Not too big of a gripe, but it just bugged me. Good season though,.

The thing with Lumen is he found someone who he can totally relate to as far as what kind of person he is; While with Rita he spent the whole time keeping his real personality a big secret. Remember initially he only got involved with Rita back in season 1 so that he can keep up appearances as a "normal" person so that he can keep his deeds under wraps.

He did truly love Rita though and remember he did lose it emotionally after he killed that dude in the washroom when he went to disposed his "evidence" and Harry reappeared. The beginning of season 5 was all about him trying to "feel" the grief of losing Rita. He truly is a sociopath "monster" as he did not have any feelings as normal humans do.

That's the exact way I saw it to. But we didn't need this whole season to tell us that Dexter isn't human and is a monster. We've known that since the show began. It was a wasted season if you ask me.

I get that, I do.... But It even his sister said it.... It was too quick of a rebound.

I liked Lumen, but it felt like the aftermath of Rita's death was brushed aside too quickly...

I was unimpressed with season 5, but I'm going to assume it was a way for the writers to begin the Dexter story anew and take it different places that will eventually lead to his discovery. Rita's gone, the kids are gone, Quinn is not an issue anymore, etc. It frees him up to be himself again

Yeah, I'm very excited about season 6 and where it will go..

I want to say this though.......

I LOVED season 2, but I was surprised with how early in the series they went with the whole "this season they're investigating Dexter"...... Not a complaint, and it was inevitable that that would be a story arc for a season, but surprised they went that route that early... it seems that would have been a good story arc to hold of for a couple more seasons.

Just my $.02

I liked that they did it early. Since they think Doakes was the Butcher it frees Dexter up to carry on his mission undetected since the case is officially closed.

Dexter is making bad choices though as he's revealed to both Migel and Lumen who he really is and he got close enough with Trinity that he found out Dexter's real name. Lumen is the only one we have to worry about though. What if the guilt of what she and Dexter have done eats away at her and she goes to the police and tells them everything?

Once again, I envy those who get to watch this show again. As much as I bitch about the low seasons (3 & 5), they're still enjoyable and exciting. Happy watching!

I don't think this is a show I can ever tire of watching. Besides watching them on Showtime when they first aired, i've watched the first four seasons on DVD at least five times each.

Even though you know what's coming it doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

Everyone seems to talk about season 2 3 and 5 positively.. If season 1 isn't the best... Then wow.

Season 1 is awesome! But I think most people unanimously agree that seasons 2 and 4 are the best seasons. Season 4 of Dexter is unreal. It's just absolutely the greatest season ever of any TV show.

I'd rate them as so, in order of my idea of best to least best:

Season 4

Season 2

Season 1 (very close to season 2 though)

Season 3

Season 5

I'll go with seasons 2 and 4 as my favorites to. But that's no slight on season 1 by any means. The first season is great but the show really developes into something extra special in seasons 2 and 4. Season three I thought took a little while to get going but the last half of it is very good.

Season 5 is was a disappointment though. It always seemed like it was building up to something big but it never was revealed.

I'm not sure if i've mentioned this yet but I think Michael C. Hall and Jenifer Carpenter's performances in this show are the best i've ever seen in any TV series.

Damn how did I miss this thread?????

Oh, probably because I was off watching Seasons 1-5 on DVD! lol. All I can really add here is that this is just a fantastic show. At a friend's recommendation, I started watching Season 1 on Netflix streaming. Two episodes in, I was being pulled into the Dexter vortex. At the conclusion of Season 4, I was bummed because I dont have Showtime, and had already missed the airing of Season 5.......but thankfully a geeky friend showed me how to grab the episodes online in HD and I just finished watching the 5th season after burning it to DVD.

Without hesitation I will say that this is one of the finest shows I have watched; one that constantly keeps me engaged and wrapped up in his dark world, and is also very entertaining and witty. Some amazing acting from Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter, as well as some really very very likeable characters (Battista, Masuka, Doakes) and others that you love to hate and then hate to love. The show has such a great delivery and presentation - alternating between the here-and-now, the voice of Dexter's conscience (via Dexter or via Harry) and some simply thrilling plotlines.

I had read a bunch of 'downer' threads regarding Season 5 online before I had all the episodes downloaded, and I wished I hadnt read them actually, because it kept me waiting for the downfall. In all honesty, I enjoyed Season 5 and found the 48-52 minutes to fly by just as fast as previous seasons, leaving me wanting more. (Is there anything more depressing than being OUT of new episodes?).

Hard to followup Season 4, I think its just natural to have a bit of an ebb as new storylines develop. This is the most Ive been hooked by any show since LOST.

Seriously, I'm excited now, how could Dexter possibly not get caught at this point? biggrin.gif He's really lost his touch... Damn.

Wait, no spoilers - don't answer that! Not without white texting anyway.

(and one more thing.. That little gang kind.. Joey Ninaz.. He's bugging the hell out of me...)

I love this show. had to buy all 4 seasons on Blu just cause I watched the first two episodes on Netflix. I was instantly hooked. I've seen every episode up till season 4 now. I dont have cable at all so i wont be able to watch season 5 until the BluRay/ DVD comes out this September. Hopefull Google TV will be able to get the rights to stream ShoTime stuff. Cause when the next season starts, I'd like to be able to watch it... i mean, thats what I got the Google TV for is for the ability to do these things in the future. They're already working on getting rights to show American Television on the google TV. I have been watching Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Top Shot, RJ Berger ect. alot lately. Im loving not paying for cable and having access to all these shows. Hopefully Dexter will be in there soon. smile.gif

I think you all may have raised my expectations for season 2 a bit too high, it was about equal to 1 to me..

Season 3, ho!

They are about equal. The way everything played out in season 2 and the payoff at the end is what makes is so special.
