Young Frankenstein

Recommended Posts

A post in another thread made me think of this movie.

Dr. Frankenstein?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Fronkensteen.

Igor: You're putting me on.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No, it's pronounced: Fronkensteen.

Igor: Do you also say, Froaderick?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No, Frederick.

Igor: Well, why isn't it: Froaderick Fronkensteen?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: It isn't. It's Frederick Fronensteen.

Igor: I see.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You must be Igor.

Igor: No, it's pronounced: I-gore.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: But, they told me it was Igor.

Igor: Well, they were wrong then, weren't they?

The dance scene is one of the funniest things ever. Classic movie!

Yeah. It's pretty funny watching him trying to belt out "Putting on the Ritz".

If anyone owns the DVD (It's been played at my house countless times), there's a 'making of' with interviews. Gene Wilder states that Mel Brooks make him fight HARD to keep that dance scene in. Mel wasn't sure it would work, and wanted to see how much conviction Wilder had about that scene, so he pushed back on him hard to see how bad he'd fight for it.

Wilder won. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

It's probably my favorite moment of that DVD feature.

There are more classic lines and amazing moments in this movie than you can shake a stick at. It's without a doubt one of my favorite movies of all time.

My kids even walk around house quoting lines because they've watched it about as often as you'd expect a little kid to watch the same Disney movie. It's one of this Dad's proudest moments. laugh.gif

Although it was awkward when my 9-year-old daughter was walking around the house repeating "He'd have an emormous schwanstukker!"

I was just thinking about the scene with Gene Hackman. First he poors boiling hot soup on Frankenstein's lap and then he breaks his mug when they toast. Frankenstein's expression is priceless.

But I was gonna make espresso!

I concur. One of the Best DVDs in my possession. This and "Blazing Saddles" are my two favorite Mel Brooks movies.

Young Frankenstein is coming to Broadway this fall. My wife is escorting a group of college theater students on a Broadway trip in November and I get to go along as her guest.

The shows they go to are selected by vote and this was at the top of the list.
