Hopefully theres more reggae fans here at TRF than Justin Timberlake fans.

Maybe not.

Bumping this thread and getting pysched for the pulse show tonight.

Should I wear my Charlie Daniels Band t-shirt tonight?

Dude, that sucks. I saw the Wailers at the Crystal Ballroom about three years ago. Fun show, even though we didn't get to stay for the whole thing...we left at 2 AM and it was still going.

Why in the world did you leave? It'd take something like a natural disaster for me to have left that gig. It was the Wailers!

Crystal Ballroom...very cool venue btw

I forgot to mention that mention that there are a few groups who are blending blue grass and reggae around here. I saw a group now defunct called Snake Oil Medicine Show that has a disc called Bluegrasstafari. Now they are CX-1, as in Cygnus X-1- no rush refernce there though to my knowledge.

Opening for the pulse is Ras Alan, a white reggae artist from the mtns of tennessee.

Steel Pulse- Rally Round

cool10.gif cool10.gif

one my all time faves

and what they opened up with tonight! cool10.gif

Great show and decent setlist overall. I wish they had played a few more older songs, my highlights include

handsworth revolution

babylon makes the rules

Your House

Bodyguard

Steppin'out

rollerskates

earth crisis

The openers Ras Alan and The Lions were good but not exceptional. Suprisingly they played two songs of the bluegrasstafari disc I have, maybe Ras Alan was in on that recording. Not really blue grass as i was expecting some banjo.

I almost never listen to reggae, but last night I was jamming with some guys who play reggae and we had lots of fun. I picked up the bass and the cool bass-lines just kept coming to me..It's a really fun style to play.

I saw Steel Pulse again last saturday out in Colorado. Half the band did not make it due to the volcano causing flight travels. We got a stripped down, guitar oriented, one time show. Good set list with the highlight being

Even better the show was free!

^^ not familiar with their music but listening to some now.

open up the gate sounds good.

The entire album is great. It's a Lee Scratch Perry production. Mr. Perry is a good starting point in discovering Reggae music. He's produced so many great albums. Heart of the Congos being my personal favorite. It's got so much going on.

Burning Spear - Live in Paris. Give that one a try. I'll bet that you like it. That album is what got me into reggae mon cool10.gif
