See, now this is completely what I used to think. My wife (we weren't even married back then) tried for weeks to get me into Harry Potter, but I just thought they were kids' books. Then one time on a long car trip she played the first book on cassette. I tried not to pay attention, but before I knew it I was hooked. I'm not that into kids' books, but these books ROCK. They're the rare series of books that can appeal to both kids AND adults. I'm so glad I finally broke down and got into them. They really are amazing stories IMHO... Me neither. I mean, come on, they're KID'S books for the love of Pete! I used to think the same thing. Then my niece made me promise to read the first book (she was planning on quizzing me), so I agreed. I read the first few pages, and I was hooked. Nobody was more shocked than myself. I can't wait for the new book.

thestand
Haven't read any since the 4th one, but I do plan on continuing. Though there are some seriously immature grown men in this thread. I can't wait for the new book. It doesn't take a kid to read a great book. I takes a great mind to see it for what it truly is - a classic work of literature. Now Pags - Your gonna have to wait for me to finish the book first before you even think about getting your hands on it!

Necromancer
QUOTE (thestand @ Feb 3 2007, 11:43 PM) Haven't read any since the 4th one, but I do plan on continuing. Though there are some seriously immature grown men in this thread. And I'm not talking about the ones that read the book. You wound me so. When my 11 year old son (at the time) was all gung ho about this series of "literature", I had been hearing crap about it on tv. How it was dark and had all these "bad influences" in it. So just being a good parent, I picked it up and started to read it. I found nothing in it to be worried about as far as it making my kid a bad kid or anything ridiculous like that. But I found it to be as childish as Dr. Seuss without the rhyming. It's a soap opera for kids. Seriously. I've watched the movies with my kids, and while they're good family entertainment, they rank right up there with Bambi as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't watch it without my kids around. It's about one-step above Tolkien's crap. And that's not saying much.
Jack Aubrey
Should I stop picking on the Harry Potter fans before I get punched (or jabbed repeatedly with fake magic wands)? Edited February 4, 2007 by Jack Aubrey

As I said before, read the whole series. The first 2 books are aimed at the kids but they are definatel not now. If you dont like it then thats good for you but I love the series and it seems quite a few others do too. Seems like Necro and Jack just want to start crap in this thread. So funny. Seriously, is that how they do things in the Harry Potter world? How inefficient.

Admit it. However, my answer must be no. I'm a happily married man. One small correction, though. I loved comics when I was a kid, I don't read them anymore. FWIW, the cartoons that I watch are geared towards adults. That's why Adult Swim shows them after midnight.
