Segue Myles Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 Paradise Lost- Obsidian When this album came out, it was Covid lockdown hysteria, and I just couldn't get in the heads page for anything downbeat. Now it's 2023, and I find this album to be glorious. Some fans actually regard this as their finest moment, and I'm struggling to argue that.
Segue Myles Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 In Flames- Subterranean EP This is an EP, but I have the bonus track edition which is the only way I've ever known it, so essentially its an album. And it's breathtaking death metal, with some of the most intensely catchy riffage ever!
Segue Myles Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 The Gathering- How To Measure A Planet? The greatest female fronted metal band ever (I don't make the rules), this band changed the musical landscape ever so quietly alongside Paradise Lost in the 1990s, and never recieved due credit (but you've definitely heard of bands that took notes from them and broke into the mainstream in the 2000s). Today, this album turns 25, so of course I have to play it. Beautiful, delicate, and surprisingly gentle, this is not unlike Radiohead. Just exquisite and way ahead of any of their peers. I would sell my soul to see them in their prime. 1
