Of course, with a century of well-intentioned mismanagement, it will be tough to catch up. The Tahoe area used to have draconian regulations that limited property openers' ability to create defensive space. In 2007 they had the Angora fire that destroyed numerous homes near Christmas Valley, as well a a large fire below the heavenly Valley Ski resort. They had an epiphany at that point, realizing that overgrown undergrowth (that's a fun phrase!) is a huge problem that leads to hotter, more easily spread fires.
