workingcinderellaman
Really cool! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SNCCbJC7k4That was a great moment! Hey, is that shot in your sig from Snowbasin? No. I'm not sure where it is but it was the only pic I could find of Mikaela Shiffrin that fit in my sig without modification. And just to add a word to the wise when looking for pictures of Mikaela Shiffrin. Make sure you spell her name correctly. There's someone with the name of Micaela Schäfer who has a different sort of pictures that that of an Olympic skier. ;)

goose
Korea is expected to lose 10 billion hosting the Olympics. Ouch. So glad Boston backed off.https://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/10-olympic-games-bankrupted-host-countries.htm 10 Olympic Games That Nearly Bankrupted Their Host Countries Hosting the Olympics is a financially risky proposition, one that begins a decade before the events are actually held. Cities compete to convince -- first their own countries, then the International Olympic Committee -- that they are the right venue: Safe, with convenient transportation, plus efficient and elaborate infrastructure. The process isn't cheap. Chicago, for example, spent an estimated $100 million in its bid to host the 2016 summer games -- and lost [source: Zimbalist]. If a host city is selected, it partners with state and federal government -- and private enterprise -- to expand rail service, build massive hotels and construct arenas in which to host the games. But even the best-laid plans seem to end with skyrocketing costs. An Oxford University study examining the Olympic Games from 1962 to 2012 discovered host cities experience, on average, a 179 percent cost overrun during the preparation phase [source: Black]. Perhaps underestimating expenditures is an Olympic tradition, too. It certainly seems that way when you look at our chronological list of Olympics that broke the bank, starting with the very first one. Taxachussetts has never been shy about taking more of their citizen's money.

workingcinderellaman
ON tonight: Figure skating short program, men’s skeleton, women’s snowboard cross, alpine skiing men’s super-G, freestyle skiing women’s aerials For anyone who hasn't seen it, the snowboard cross is pretty cool. Freestyle aerials are always fun as well.

Still think USA has a chance at the gold! That was a physical match! USA doubles Canada in shots on goal (+/-40:20), but comes out with a loss. Great effort by the Canadian goalie.

workingcinderellaman
Anyone watch the ice dancing competition yesterday? It was a bit nippley for the French, and they still managed to place second.
blueschica
I really dislike the way NBC is handling the Olympics. We haven't seen one medal ceremony. I thought they were supposed to be on one of the 4 or 5 channels but I haven't found them yet. Also, we in the eastern time zone are getting screwed on seeing events. Women's hockey gold medal game is on 11 pm Wednesday night? Thanks for nothing. I'm kind of a night owl but tonight's ice dancing finals are the first "evening" event my husband has been able to see. I guess I need to visit RUSHhead666 ( :hi: Earl) next time so that I'm in California! I'm dating myself but take me back to ABC and Jim McKay doing the Olympics ! And I agree with the following article I just found. https://www.msn.com/...nged/ar-BBJipTp

blueschica
They're probably worried about someone pulling a Kaepernick. I didn't think of that but I'm thinking now that you are right. That's too bad, I always thought it was one of the inspirational parts of the Olympics.
