Lorraine
I can't believe it. And I'm not looking forward to a lot more of this in the near future. All of the greats who have been a musical part of my life since childhood are going to start dying one by one.

Lorraine
It's kind of sketchy as to the cause of his death. Does anyone here know what it was?
goose
My heart just sank. :(It's an end to an era. I've always had a deep connection with the band...the wry humor. Remember that conversation we had the other day in the Simon & Garfunkel thread? The article on Walter's passing that started this thread had this quote: Becker said, "That's sort of what we wanted to do, conquer from the margins, sort of find our place in the middle based on the fact that we were creatures of the margin and of alienation, and I think that a lot of kids our age were very alienated. To this day when I read some text that somebody writes about alienation, I always think to myself, 'Gee, they make it sound like it’s a bad thing!' Right on, Walter!

Lorraine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEfNWc1UNjM :sigh: That's Troutman's song. I wonder where he's been. I wrote to him, but he never answered. I'm worried because he has a bad heart.

I hate, I just absolutely hate, hate , hate, hate, hate, getting older. No one prepared me for this. It's awful. It's gotten to the point where I envy those who died young, They escaped having to live through this. If I could string more than a half sentence together these days, and didn't trip all over my words when my mind goes blank, I'd write a book warning others about what it's like.
New_World_Man
Would there be significantly more views or comments if the heading said "Walter Becker from Steely Dan RIP?" Just wondering because I don't think everyone would know who he is without the SD association.

invisible airwave
http://i.imgur.com/Sxt04zs.jpg I got into Ben Folds Five a year before their big hit, Brick, came out and still love them. Without Steely Dan, there is none of that smart ass wit and sound from Folds. They even covered Barrytown. RIP Walter. RushFanForever
From Rolling Stone. Farewell, Walter Becker: Remembering the Elusive Genius of Steely Dan Most fans heard him (Walter Becker) talk for the first time in the 1999 VH1 Classic Albums doc about the making of Aja – a TV moment every bit as classic as Aja. It changed the public perception of Steely Dan as drastically as Beyond The Lighted Stage changed the perception of Rush, introducing Becker as the mischievously wry professor that live audiences would come to cherish over the years.
driventotheedge
RIP Walter. Great band. BTW, what's wrong with the site today? Trying to post in the "McCartney" thread (page 4 right now) and unable to do so.
