We also got to see a pair of Osprey fishing too!

I WISH I had the 200MM lens with me! wacko.gif

No fish for us this trip; but we'll try our luck again later this week after the weather moves through.

A local was stopped by a DNR officer recently with two ice chests full of live fish in water, leaving a river well known for its fishing.

The DNR officer asked the man, "Do you have a license to catch those fish?"

"Naw, my friend, I ain't got no license. These here are my pet fish."

"Pet fish?"

"Yep. Every night I take these fish down to the river and let 'em swim' round for a while. Then I whistle and they jump right back into this ice chest and I take 'em home."

"That's a bunch of BS! Fish can't do that!"

The man looked at the DNR officer for a moment and then said, It's the truth. I'll show you. It really works."

"Okay, I've GOT to see this!"

The man poured the fish into the river and stood and waited.

After several minutes, the DNR officer turned to him and said, "Well?"

"Well, what?" said the man.

"When are you going to call them back?"

"Call who back?"

"The FISH!"

"What fish?"

The one that got away....

So, after a day of quite a few hook-offs & a few catches of Pickerel (one that jumped out of the water as I reeled my lure up!). LSM & I decide to go home. On our way home, we (I) decided to take a small little swampy/pond area. I tried here before, had some strikes, caught a pickerel but I was certain there were going to be bass jumping....

So, I throw out my lure (a Scumfrog Bigfoot) in the usual places I did before & got nothing. The sun was fading fast & sight was slowing becoming limited. I looked at the mess of lily pads & the open water to the left of them....

I threw the lure right alongside of the lilypads. *plop* I wait a second. *twitch* (the lure makes that cute *ploop* sound) & the the water erupts!

I know that this lure, you need to wait a second & then set the hook. Wait, set the hook......line is dead...A hook-off?

Sad & dejected, I reel the line in. There's something different....there's no resistance the lure usually makes....I reel faster. There's no lure attached. The line broke.

No, the swivel snap I used was bent backwards & the fish I could've caught was thrashing madly to get MY lure off him. I'd would say that this bad boy would've been 4-5 pounds minimum....

LSM was on hand to witness this spectacle as I no longer have that lure which has quickly become a favorite of mine!

Fishin is what I do...

I'm majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Ecology at Texas A&M, hoping to go to work for a management firm to work and manage private lakes. I've been fishing club (bass) tournaments for a few years, now am fishing with Aggie Anglers (on a side note, our top 2 guys won the national collegiate bass fishing championship this year).

Here's a pic of a 9.55 from Choke Canyon, TX in May.

I don't really have any great fishing stories. I've been a semi-avid fisherman since I was about 10 years old, but I've never caught anything particularly spectacular. My biggest bass was about 6 pounds, and the biggest saltwater fish I ever caught was a 10 pound redfish. Not great, but they'll do I guess. I really need to go more often.

There was one time I caught a huge octopus in a crab pot when I was stationed in North Carolina. The thing spurted ink all over the dock as soon as I got the pot up on it. That stuff reeks.

Another time we were on the dock early in the morning and we saw the mullet run, which is something they do once a year. It was a boiling mass of fish about half a mile long being pursued by dolphins and sharks and it was an awesome sight.

Did you cook up that octopus Dave? Octopus is delicious!

Like Mr. Aubrey, I love fishing, but don't really have any trophies. I did catch a northern pick once, but it was far from a monster...but compared to the pan fish I normally go after, it was a nice catch.

I like to fish for food (That is how I hunt too. I don't wait for the trophy bucks. I'd rather have a full freezer than a huge rack on the wall), so I am usually looking for perch or crappy. My brother did get a new 18' deep V Tracker last summer and is going to outfit it for salmon fishing, so next year I plan on going out after some bigger fish. You can get some really nice size King salmon out on lake Michigan. I can't wait! 1022.gif

Nice largemouth. That one is a 1/2 pound heavier than the biggest largemouth bass that I've ever caught. And I fish still.
