Ancient Ways
I went with Bobbie. Is funny because jack has gotten better over the years where bob has become inconsistent.
Rod in Toronto
I went with De Niro too, but Jack has been much smarter in preserving his legacy.

bluefox4000
Love De Niro but as others have said Jack is still damn consistent. De Niro......meh. Jack it is. Mick
treeduck
Part of this comparison comes down to do you prefer retirement over selling out and becoming a straight to DVD whore? That's only part of it though. I'd prefer to compare their careers before 1998.
treeduck
I'm now looking at their careers from the late 60's to 1998. The problem with Jack is he's ALWAYS "Jack" no matter what part he's playing, he's good at being Jack though and he's got a lot of great performances. For 20 years though 1976-1996 De Niro had sewn up a legendary career with no real missteps and had an untouchable aura around him, so I give to De Niro.

Tick
I went with Bobbie. Is funny because jack has gotten better over the years where bob has become inconsistent. It all comes down to the writing. You can't make a good movie with bad writing or a bad script. Is funny because jack has gotten better over the years where bob has become inconsistent.De Niro for one thing doesn't work with Scorsese anymore and it seems like he's lost the ability to turn anything down. It's almost like he's determined to accept whatever scripts land on his desk.

He's great at what he does, but he's always Jack. You want to see someone venturing out? Watch De Niro in Star Dust. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPZWqhr-Nj8 I can't see Jack pulling this off.

Plus you could also say his cameo in The Untouchables and his turn as Max Cady in the Cape Fear remake are as well.

I simply felt more empathy for Nicholson characters. There's plenty of caricature in Jack's work, for example: his Jack Torrance, his Billy Buddusky, his Randle McMurphy, his Henry Lloyd Moon, his Frank Chambers, his Jimmy Hoffa, his Garrett Breedlove, his Will Randle, his Warren R. Schmidt and especially his Darryl Van Horn, his Joker and his Colonel Jessup.
