Valid criticism. I think the songs punch through however, despite the studio sameness that KS has embraced.

I’m really digging the new album.

Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies) working with Geddy on a "Secret Project"

Of course a member of my least favorite band ever is collaborating with a member of my favorite band ever. -
I saw them in Maryland on that same tour, and it was exactly my experience. Bad, bad sound. I kinda liked Candlebox at that time, though, so seeing them was cool. Speaking of 90s rock, I saw Gin Blossoms play recently. Their music hasn't really aged well. I had a chance to see them when I was in North Carolina not long ago. Perhaps it was good I missed them.

Xanadu was extra heavy on this tour as well. Unfortunately I saw them at Veterans Memorial and it sounded just awful. Worst sounding Rush show ever. Like a giant echoey canyon. Candlebox opened.

Sending ❤️ to you Lorraine.

Nirvana being sued for Nevermind album cover

It’s a pretty damn good album. If it sucked, then maybe I’d understand. -
This sucks. Unfortunately many more to follow shortly.

God I so don’t care.

I saw City Heat in the theater as a kid and loved it. Is it that bad? I remember the audience loving it. I know Reynolds was all messed up physically, but he still got some laughs I recall. Didn't he get his jaw broken when he was hit in the face with a chair during a fight sequence for the film? And then had to go on a liquid diet and lost a ton of weight? Sorry missed this

Yeah, I saw it on Starz recently and the troubled production from what I've read about shows in this movie. Burt hurt his jaw so bad he could only drink instead of eating solid foods which led up to him losing weight. It shows in the trailer for Stick that came out a year later. I remember reading that in Burt's autobiography (it's great). He got in a car accident and smashed up his face. He was miserable during the production (but he probably needed the money badly). EDIT - I was wrong about that - he broke his jaw shooting a fight scene for the film:

I had a drive from San Diego after a gig and cued up ESL. Goddamn is it good. Red Barchetta is just the ultimate live Rush song. And then Jacob’s Ladder through Xanadu. Holy shit is that heaven on a late night drive…

Re-watched the JJ reboot last night with the kids and damn that was a good film. Too bad it got all f***ed up (though 'Beyond' was almost a course correction). Kids were super into it. I thought the chemistry with the characters was palpable, and the origin story was great. Yeah Eric Bana wasn't the best bad-guy, but the writing shined and the effects still hold up very well.

Primus - a tribute to kings sample from opening night

Hmmm. Needs more volume. -
The Val Kilmer doc.

I prefer the first 2 disks! The AFTK disc is not my fave for 2 reasons: NEPs weird timekeeping. Geddys condition of his voice and odd phrasing.

Charlie Watts has dropped out of the Stones US tour

If Charlie kicks it I’m going to be pissed off. -
I always thought that The Real Me was a big influence on the bass in The Body Electric. Thoughts? Can you offer some specific parts of TBE. The bass is so understated on GuP that it’s hard to see the connection - for me.

Surprised to see him mentioned. I’m one of his biggest fans. However - he plays on top of or ahead of the beat quite a bit. He pushes the beat more than settles into it. True. I love the footage of Andy screaming at him to slow down! He sometimes nails it, though, on tracks like Murder By Numbers or Bring On The Night. Great call on the seldom-mentioned Phil Rudd. Bring on the Night is a great example of how awesome he is.

I’ve been listening to the Quadrophenia lately and goddamn is The Real Me just f***ing awesome.

I think he was fascinated by swing and liked the challenge it presented. I think Freddie Gruber deserves some credit pointing him in the right direction but I don’t think I saw real progress in his playing, and achievement of pocket, until he was studying with Peter Erskine. The task of “learning” pocket is nothing short of Herculean - you typically either have it or you don’t. I don’t - and it’s been a struggle for me personally. Peart is phenomenal because he is the ultimate student - and was able to embrace a new approach and put in the time to make it work. Who has pocket? Bonham Ringo Bruford Max Roach Meg White Tommy Ramone Phill Rudd Who doesn’t? Stewart Copeland Herb Alexander Danny Carey Hal Blaine Roger Taylor It’s not really a judgement on ability - it’s essentially a talent like any other. You can still be a killer drummer without substantial pocket. Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt - of course any drummer with skill will play with an element of danceability and groove.

Cheers and thank you!
