  1. QUOTE (canadianice @ Jan 25 2012, 02:51 PM)QUOTE (ghostworks @ Jan 25 2012, 01:49 PM) ^ [* ...and now we wait for the 'I don't have a cellphone/digital camera/scanner/and even if I did I have no idea how to upload pics' post] What is your problem? .When i tell you they are perfect, they are perfect, oh and stop whining, i am sure the fellas took the time to go over every minute detail---well at least on mine they did!!! My guess is the band has hardly listened to or looked over anything. Al probably had some good listens to the 5.1 mixes, but outside of that I'd say he didn't have much more input. These releases were quickly put together in hopes of good holiday sells and nothing else. The sad thing is that these could have been really nice - better engineering (Steven Wilson), more detail on packaging, all releases in 5.1 etc...
  2. QUOTE (GeddyLeeFender @ Jan 16 2012, 03:24 PM)I saw them at Red Rocks and yes there is a huge difference between being there and listening to the recordings but I thought Geddy sounded just as good as on the S & A tour. WHY do they insist on doing the recordings so late in their tours?! How about like 3-4 months into it do a recording when Geddy is warmed up but not tired from so many shows... The Cleveland show was the 9th of 37 shows on the second leg. The first leg ended mid October '10 - plenty of time for him to rest his voice. Why can't we all agree he's lost some of his range? It's not really a bad thing to me, just something that happens to aging rock artists. He's more than making up for it with his musicianship.

QUOTE (theanalogmiddleagedman @ Jan 21 2012, 09:10 AM) Awesome! I was really glad they finally played this live and it was so good. Has anyone heard an unedited version to know what Geddy's goof up was? 3:50 to 4:01
  4. I like the energy and performance of GUP live. They rocked Temples on that tour.
  5. Why does it really matter where they record? it will be poorly mixed by Chycki and brickwalled during the mastering process.

  8. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Nov 26 2011, 07:53 PM)QUOTE (eshine @ Nov 26 2011, 06:36 PM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Nov 26 2011, 07:23 PM) QUOTE (eshine @ Nov 26 2011, 04:13 PM) QUOTE (reani14 @ Nov 26 2011, 06:39 AM) freewill and time stand still and terrible on time machine. and vital signs, you can't even hear whats hes singing.. if you dont know the lyrics already. He nails freewill "and" time machine. You, on the other hand, cant even nail the proper keys on a computer to formulate cohesive sentences (although we all know you are just a "normal" member posing as someone else, which in itself is sadder then Geddy's most aweful night behind the mic) Freewil and Time Stand Still were both pretty bad vocally. Not just the sound of his voice, but terribly off key in spots.... But they weren't, and this is the problem with these criticisms is that they are factually incorrect. I don't think Geddy has ever given TSS a proper vocal treatement live - and he does warble a bit in spots - but terribly off-key? What is your definition of off-key? In a purely musical context - he is singing in-key. Freewill he simply nails - better then he did decades ago, actually. He was such an inconsistant vocalist that they switched over to Distant Early Warning to avoid the "cell of awareness" vocal during the RTB tour. I'm not going to argue this. Plain and simple (IMO)...The vocals aren't very good on either of those songs. Listen to the pre-chrous and chrous in TSS as a good example.... Never understood why he chose to sing the pre-chrous in TSS so high. I much prefer the more laid back vocal styling on the studio version. You'd think at his age he'd use that to his advantage.
  9. QUOTE (Weakly Criminal @ Nov 22 2011, 07:07 AM) His bass playing aint what it used to be either. What do you expect? I'm sure thier wives could tell you. Really? I think his bass playing on the TM release is incredible. Though he has been somewhat lazy in the studio as of late. His bass playing on S&A is a snooze fest.
  10. One thing I really dislike are the out of focus full stage shots. Because of the quality I didn't notice it on VH1, but on the Blu-Ray it's really annoying. This happens on a majority of songs. Some examples are the first shot of Freewill, pyro shot on Marathon and numerous shots at the end of Vital Signs.
  11. QUOTE (reani14 @ Nov 20 2011, 11:05 AM)appreviated
  12. In BTLS Neil says that Rush began with Moving Pictures. Or something to that affect. So that should tell you what he thinks of everything pre-MP. Geddy has always given high praise to Power Windows and the group as a whole seems more happy with MP than anything they've ever done.

  14. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Nov 12 2011, 08:20 PM) QUOTE (grand phil-nale @ Nov 12 2011, 12:39 AM) Taking Alex's vocals out of the mix and continuously showing shots of him singing is bad editing. yeah, I've always hated that. Alex pretending to sing over a backing track....lame. That is lame when he fakes it (Stick It Out, Far Cry), but there are songs where he actually sings live. Numerous shots on TM with him singing away and all you hear is Geddy singing live.

  20. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Nov 1 2011, 05:36 PM)Collins. If Steven Wilson produced a Rush album, I'd bet that he'd be the best producer Rush ever had. The worst part is that Wilson has publicly said that he would love to produce Rush and remix their back catalog in 5.1. If I'm not mistaken he actually approached Alex about the 5.1 thing. Epic fail on Rush's part.
  21. Peter Collins by a mile. Shame Steven Wilson will never be on the list.
