  1. I played it, minus Didacts and Narpets, (along with SteelCaressed son) during the TRF tailgate in the Jiffy Lube Live (DC) parking lot for the Snakes And Arrows, Time Machine, and Clockwork Angels tours. I think there may be videos of it in the meetup archives of the tour section. http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?/topic/73059-2012-0909-washington-dc/page__st__140#entry2756610
  2. His choices are interesting. And even if there's no Rush happening, it is just so nice to have Geddy around a bit again
  3. I was never a Rush fan growing up, but seeing them in 2007 just for something to do brought unexpected magic into my life at a time when I desperately needed it. I proceeded to see them 23 times between 2007 and 2015, and every single one of those gigs gave me that same feeling. A lot of people criticised Geddy's voice during those years, but his live singing made me incredibly happy. His vocal performances may have often been uneven and seldom technically brilliant, but the passion he put into the effort to sing never failed to move me. And when he did hit the notes, WOW. That made me happy! I adored the ambitiousness of the R40 setlist. I'll freely admit that not all of those choices turned out spectacularly well, but I like to imagine that at least some little part of Geddy was answering the disenchanted parts of the fanbase when he made some of them: "Oh, I can't sing that anymore? WATCH ME." :D Happy! What else? I haven't got time to spare to write about all the things Rush did at gigs that made me happy, but I will say that the thing that made me absolutely the happiest was the way they showed each other love and respect with subtle glances and gestures in their interactions when they were playing. The love and respect they showed us with the way they gave their all to each performance no matter what seen or unseen conditions existed, that was pretty darned wonderful too. I will miss them forever
  4. I don’t care whether they call it Rush or not. I just want to see Geddy and Alex (and any drummer who can do it) on stage again playing the songs that I love.
  5. He's in bad shape. What drugs is he doing? Opioids and Ambien. Maybe his arrest will be a step in getting the Big Pharm Addiction Industry reined in. I doubt it. The medical profession gives them too much support. I'm convinced they get a kickback for every new pill they prescribe. Many of them do, yes. Perhaps not actual cash kickbacks, but doctors do get huge incentives to prescribe. And nothing in the foreseeable future is going to rein it in, because too many people with too much power are making too much money from the current system. Here's a link to an SOCN thread on the topic. I made it there because the topic is political in nature. http://www.therushfo...ctor-kickbacks/ I'd look at that, but SOCN is too scary!

  7. 23. I came to Rush late, 2007, but I had 8 wonderful years to make up for the lost time and enjoy what I'd missed out on for all those years; the majesty that was Rush live :rush:
  8. Did you used to come for the listening parties?
  9. I've had this happen too. It's hard to explain to people who aren't fans how much the band means to you. It's kind of like seeing someone you love across a crowded room. Nothing else matters at that moment. So it's not just me :D
  10. I'll let you guys know when it's back up. Picky picky! :P Okay, I got an answer, and it's not good. Our IP.Chat application was discontinued last year, unfortunately. On May 1st of this year the service was shut off. So yeah, we don't have a chat room. There are a few third party chats that we could look into, but they might be more trouble than they're worth. This is terrible news! That chat room has been a real lifeline for me many times in the past 10 years. I understand the board administration wanting to avoid going to more trouble than it would be worth to get a new chat room going, but if there's anything that I, an interested user, could do towards that, I'd be happy to volunteer. There are a few out there that we'll look into. As long as they're not too expensive and can integrate seamlessly with the board then we'll strongly consider it. We've always had a chat room and it feels weird to not have one. Oh my, well let us know what u decide. Weigh out the pros and cons of each. Tbh, it is weird without one. And still almost no one used the chat room when it existed. I forged many important friendships in that chat room, had some great discussions, and had many stupid good times as well. Just because one doesn't do something every single day doesn't mean it isn't valuable. I will tremendously miss chatting here if it is gone forever.

  12. Right right. I forgot that you prefer someone more feminine, more delicate. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XJiJ2Wp0pgc/SpLdcwyM33I/AAAAAAAABCo/AWJxYUUlCIw/s400/old_lita.jpg Uh huh. What does Lita have to do with this thread...? Asked without irony?
  13. In honour of this thread's first anniversary, here is 2112 from the Saratoga Springs show in 2010. It was two years since my Rush Summer of 2008, and I didn't yet know that the magic was real and not something unrepeatable from a phase of my life that was over. We had only planned to go to the New Jersey show, but I having a hard time with some things and my husband decided the night before the gig that I needed to be cheered up. Putting together tickets and the road trip at the last minute presented some challenges and adventures, but we persevered. These challenges and adventures made us a little late getting to the show, so we missed most of the intro film, but we made it to our seats just before the music started. The first of many amazing moments at this gig was hearing the first notes of "The Spirit Of Radio" and thinking "Yes, oh yes, here we are again." The tickets we got were for special box seats at the very back of the orchestra section that included parking and a buffet spread in the clubhouse. It was the last time those tickets would ever be that affordable. With the documentary coming out later that year, and Clockwork Angels after that, Rush became a much hotter (read, pricier!) ticket. I didn't have earplugs, which was little bit of a problem during the first set. A special fan moment from that gig for me was going to the merch stand at intermission in hopes they had some (they didn't), and having a guy who was walking by overhear me. He said "Oh, I've got some extras!" We stepped to the side and he gave them to me, then we raved about Rush together until his wife came looking for him. Another special fan moment from that gig was when I was walking with my husband and going on about how wonderful the show was, and how "they're beautiful, so beautiful, they're just so amazingly beautiful, these grand old men," and a guy who was walking near us overhearing that and looking at me and giving me the most delighted sympatico grin ever. :rush:: The love of my musical life! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUlYfPW4crw
  14. I love this grumpy bastard. Happy Birthday, Pete! Thank you for being Who you are!
  15. There is a possibility that it was the same thing that killed Michael Hutchence, auto-erotic asphyxiation. Normally I'd say hopefully not, but at this point it doesn't really matter. He's dead, apparently by his own actions. So sad. Although this thread is for Chris Cornell, I will just take one post to say that Michael Hutchence did not die by auto-erotic asphyxiation .. RIP Hutch, RIP Chirs Hutch was found sitting naked on the bathroom floor with a belt around his neck, looped around the doorknob. He was undoubtedly into kinky stuff. His band, biography and closest friends stated this. He was depressed about what was going on with Yates and Geldof but EVERYONE around him said he would NEVER in a million years kill himself. Aussies are too happy. It's totally ignorant for ANYONE to say that someone else would 'NEVER in a million years kill himself." Many people in that kind of pain hide it. And many many people have committed suicide even though "EVERYONE" said "oh, they would never do that!" Also: "Aussies are too happy"? WTF. Way to generalise, and to trivialise. Whether Michael Hutchence intended to die or not, that is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard in a discussion about mental health. And I have heard many. The "Aussies are too happy" quote comes directly from his band mate Kirk Pengilly. Try reading up on Hutchs life. I wasn't talking about all mental health victims. I was specifically talking about Hutch and plenty of people have unintentionally committed suicide, as does the evidence suggest about hutch. Pipe down and have a beer. The fact that someone who personally knew Michael Hutchence said "Aussies are too happy" to intentionally commit suicide does not make it any less ignorant or ridiculous a comment.

  17. "Snobby" you say? Neil Peart in the Marvel Universe: http://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/52/27/59/52275928dfae3e7fda2ce928e5f60c05.jpg http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/images/books/rag-05.1994/rag-05.1994-2.jpg In one of his books it's mentioned that "Sub-Mariner" is/was one of his nicknames due to the similar hair line. It IS him! I know! Neil refers to Americans in the same tone that Namor refers to surface dwellers! And he refers to RUSH fans in the same tone as he refers to THE HULK! Very true! I am an actually witness of such "Hulk" behavior when I met Neil backstage by pure accident on the "Vapor Trails" Tour. A story for the Ages that I have told on here so many times. So all I will is say that when Neil came off his bus I saw him and turned around and started to walk to him. He froze like a deer in headlights. I froze like a fuckking snowman on a hot summer's eve. (pun intended..... douche, get it?) He was all dressed in black from head to toe. Very Johnny Cash but not so cool. Greasy black hair, big red bloated head. Not a big GREEN head like the Hulk but if the Hulk were red it would have been Hulk Peart. HELLBOY perhaps without the horns. Neil was devilsh enough that night. As I walked up to him to simply tell him that I was a drummer thanks to his influence, he stepped backward on the bus and recoiled like a King Cobra, but to me Neil was more of a Queen. The bus door closed. I was in a surreal moment of my life. I met my drumming mentor and right on cue he delivered the truth of his own being. Perhaps he does have a humbling phobia between him and his fans. He never seemed like a dick to me in his interviews. Always seeming kind with a witty, intellectual sense of humor. Oh well. I won't trade that memory in for anything Rush related. I would rather hold on to that Neil memory than just brag about how I had a cliche f***ing meet and greet with Geddy and Alex. Fuckk it. I met my MAN thanks to fate, luck and the Hulk Hand Of The Universe. So be it! RUSH ON! I feel great playing to "Signals" twice today. Once on my office kit. Once at home on my main kit. Thanks to "The Weapon" Thread! Thanks TRF! I will will always Love Neil, even if he is the spokesman for Summer's Eve." "Last Summer's Evil" Signed, TNT REAL METAL An Earl post I actually liked! :o What is the world coming to?
  18. Rush has made a least a few bad albums's worth of songs, but they have not made any albums that have no redeeming qualities.
  19. That line makes even less sense than you think! Here is an excerpt from Keith Emerson's highly amusing autobiography, Pictures Of An Exhibitionist:
  20. Another here who will acknowledge that Freddie is technically a better singer but would much rather listen to Geddy.
  21. Me too. Although I've been casually acquainted with Rush since the 70s, I was never a fan until I went to a Snakes and Arrows gig in 2007 just for something to do, and it was all the new material that got me. I had thought it would be mostly a nostalgia act. Instead, it was a living, vital band playing new material with passion and joy. It's hard to explain how exciting and inspiring that was to me, and why their enthusiasm for it mattered to me so much. The very next day I went to the record store to get the new album, joined this forum, and delved into the wonders of Rush. 10 years and 23 gigs later, the wonder is still wondrous I like both Clockwork Angels and the Vapour Trails remix better than Snakes and Arrows these days, but Snakes and Arrows will always hold a very special place in my heart. It was the door.
  22. That was really interesting! I enjoyed reading it. The bit about Vin Scully is classic! Thank you for sharing
  23. It's an acronym Greatest Of All Time. GOAT I know that. I just think it's dumb. Both the acronym and the concept. You worded your question like you were ignorant of that fact. No, if I'd been ignorant of that fact, I would have used the word "how" instead of the word "when." :P
  24. I have this thought daily. Neither writ large, nor preserved for future reference! No kidding. I am thankful the Internet wasn't around when I was young. Only one of many reasons I'm glad I'm not any younger than I am!
