  1. Sometimes I get lazy and use a jar of sauce from the store. It's a flavour we love. But it's when I have some fresh scallops and mushrooms to slice into it all, and top off with some grated parmesan. Yum!
  2. You, sir, have been to a hugely massively large number of concerts! I only attended two, but have always, always been amazed at the folks who attended so many, many more. You were a big part of keeping our favourite band alive for so many decades
  3. Share! Don't have to use names and you can make up a totally different company, if needed. What was the unexpected event?
  4. Looks really "girly"? I could google, but what do you like about it? School me, please.
  5. I try not to get caught up in the "micro-sonics" of recordings. Yes there are differences of every recording, for sure. But yes, my goodness, the fortieth versions of just about everything will keep going, now. A really great reminder of their stamina and pure push that kept them touring and recording! I guess, keep in mind "they" are not in control of the releases and what/which/when stuff is released. I wish they did? Feel they should? Looks like we can have some clothing from Backstage to celebrate, but nothing yet pressed on vinyl or CD or please Blu-ray!!
  6. Thank you laughedatbytime for following up! But I am stepping away. Much better to sit and share a warm coffee or a cold beer and discuss the matter than to try and argue a point, among so many worthy points, among other contextual points? I was never judging an opinion, I was suggesting that politics are better served elsewhere and having to choose a position didn't feel fair to me. I was expecting..."look what so and so did!" Facepalm!! Not a debate. Perhaps I don't check in to this topic often enough and jumped on your post, unfairly. My bad. I am sorry if I hit a nerve, it's not my purpose to preach, I suppose I was being "keep it nice" but it's not my place.
  7. Have you tried some Canadian sources? The topics are worldwide and diverse - I only hear about them on some regular day time radio programs, but they are quite popular - apparently some are award winning. cbc.ca/listen/cbc-podcasts. And if you find any RUSH podcasts please advertise them here :)
  8. Oh, Lady Be Good - Ella Fitzgerald (lol!)
  9. And that's my second-guessing with these types of polls - "because there are far too many other good singers out there"... But, is he our favourite? He's mine. Because I guess I am self-realising that just about everything about RUSH is my favourite. I just have trouble dissecting what is best, who is best, are any of them the best in rock? But every time, I have decided yes they are my favourite. I suppose I should jump to an Alex poll and repeat. But I have a suspicion he isn't staying up at night wondering about my opinion
  10. And I was just told (after showing this wanton forum business) that J.K. has an actual "story arc" and a "whole" plan for the Strike series, so that's pretty cool. Like plotting a mini series. 5 of 7 or something like that? Again, not my choice of topics but they are very good. We wants us some Robin-Strike love action?!!!!!!!
  11. Brilliant! Somebody posts a topic or replies to somebody else and the response includes the dalmatian-beside-a-fire-hydrant emoji. Then, maybe, there could be the "is it peeing on the hydrant" emoji or, is it "snooping around" undecided? Nice idea, a dalmatian emoji. Actually amazing there isn't one. I hope you checked? I am now...
  12. I know it's a Signals discussion, yes GUP was very sync'd and cohesive but it deviated so far from the deeper RUSH sounds that I owned but didn't often play it. Tinny, upper range of sound, challenging to get a feel for RUSH. The lyrics, yes. The bass, guitar, drums as instruments all fantastic. But the sound was hard to include in a "mixed tape". The "highest" range of any other album, for me.
  13. You are right, I am not using a critical eye and dissecting the irrationality of it. Because I look at this topic for reasons that are not political, but personal. Maybe I am wrong and I will stop looking at who had a facepalm yesterday - but I thought it would be for personal wonderment at why a person had a facepalm and not a comment on headline politics that lately tend to creep into everything...all matters. It's not awareness or intelligence, is it? A development over time isn't really "What made you do a facepalm today". Tell me I am wrong and I will step away from the topic. Again, I respect your opinion but don't see why it is being expressed here.
  14. Reminds me of a movie (Four Christmases?) with Jon Favreau stringing up a satellite system Reminds us to check everything once a year.
  15. You don't give us much choice? Your opinion is steadfast. And that made you do a facepalm, now? There have always been differing opinions between the parties. How about we stick to every day facepalms like "oh-ma-gerd" type stuff and not bring more, not heaping politics into it? (Please don't see disrespect)
  16. Yes. I don't follow musicians, generally, so I can't say that I know the names of other bassists. Perhaps he is not the best of everybody? But he is my favorite. When I hear and see Geddy play and slap that thing in his hand with such precision and accuracy, and for hours at a time? Yup, he is awesome. After watching the tribute to Taylor Hawkins and seeing how Geddy can still play a bass like nobody's business, it reaffirms my belief. Also, to sing and play keyboards and spend a thousand hours on a book dedicated to the instrument, yup pretty amazing.
  17. Are members, perhaps, guarded or hesitant to discuss Neil's writings? Yes, I saw some opinions in the past about the merits of his writings, but how about some new love? We can agree or disagree that it's correct or not, but just talking about the writing would be nice. Instead of this Forum section sitting static, besides wondering if there will be a final dedication date?
  18. Lessons - iTunes RUSH Radio
  19. Strike and Robin are the best couple I have followed, outside my general scope of reading (recommended by my partner). You must know, of course she wanted to write under a new name. It's not easy to publish a whole new series under a different name? And over time I think the series of her's is really, really good.
  20. An honest review - not sure how I feel about books that want to try and "shock and awe" the reader, but there are "phantom writers" that write opposite of what they normally write? Thanks for adding more to the thread!
  21. Some books turn me off by the style of writing, hard to get a rhythm going.
  22. Fantastic album. I get that fans who like the more guitar heavy or deeper edge to their music would not like it and even though I am not a big synth guy, I think the album is really, really great. Like all their albums, there are songs that take a turn or perhaps I don't like, but I think Signals is a top 5. Song analysis? Subdivisions - the video and song resonated with, like, a million youth across the world. The Analog Kid - smart writing and literally one of my youth anthems (in other writings Neil wrote about the "fawned-eyed girl with sun-browned legs". Were we not all young and shy? Chemistry - there is not a metronome anywhere that could keep up to that timing! The Weapon is Part II of Fear. There are only four parts of Fear - The first is in Grace Under Pressure (The Enemy Within); The second being The Weapon (here); The third in Moving Pictures (Witch Hunt); and, Four in Vapor Trails (Freeze). So that should elevate the album, a bit more? It's part of the "lore" of RUSH. New World Man - yup, like synth or not, it's super catchy and fun to play loud. I just wish it was a bit shorter at the end. Losing It - perhaps more lyrically than musically appreciated, it's a hard truth of ageing. Simple idea, brilliant "visuals" (in my opinion). Do we need to get into the whole electric violin and how Mr. Mink influenced a young boy to take up the instrument and become a great musician? How they actually played together during the R40 Tour? Countdown - Yes they were able to witness the Columbia launch from a VIP gallery (race back and forth to a concert and a re-scheduled launch) but everybody should know that the song "was used as a wake-up song for the astronauts during STS-109 (27 flights using Columbia) including the last flight in 2002" (Wiki) - so, that should be a big reason to appreciate a part of the album that perhaps is not one's preferred RUSH sound? So yes Happy 40th Signals Like it or not, it is a huge part of the band and one I can go a long time without playing, but then it comes to mind and I just want to crank it up big time!
  23. Bookmarking this for tomorrow, nice catch Thebuckey2112, as said in other recent posts RUSH seems to be getting more popular
  24. It was only a simple thought as I cycled past a church. Nothing more. And yes, Nova Carmina, I also do not get/understand a topic right away, it can take time. So, have you seen any similar church signs lately? I think Neil was always looking between the lines, so to speak. His was a challenging relationship with religion, no? By including church signs, he also was able to speak about his feelings during long rides - perhaps without being called on the spot? Like, if somebody else says it, I can relate or share. But don't blame me for starting the discussion? (Yikes, I am going to hit Submit Reply and hope I don't ruin the internet)
  25. Thanks for that! And Sam Elliot, well, he's a real cool dude and I am intrigued to see him in a new show. Edit - Watching The Old Man on Disney. Another very cool dude - and a great show, I think. The first episode tried too hard to "paint a picture" of a very retired and geriatric James Bond type dude, but starting after the half way mark of the that first episode and into the rest of the series, brilliant. Says me.
