  1. Too bad you're not as popular as patjnev They got 809 views for their post for the exact same topic!! And Hello, my TRF pal, hope all is well.
  2. Thank you for that, in Canada it's all about the Beeb. Even coffee shops are "dropping" the new Beeb's Combo and such. Almost gives me hives.
  3. Easy to pick apart the bits and pieces of the performance, but honestly? Soooooo Cooooool !!!!!!!!!!!! The jamming was nice, too.
  4. That was wonderful to hear, thank you Lurkst for the post. Interesting to put Alex on the spot and name a favourite tune. Perhaps it's the latest attention to Moving Pictures, perhaps it really is one of his favs? And then to choose a track from Envy Of None. It all seems very spontaneous and honest, nice interview. For those clicking on the link, make sure you change the last three letters on the URL /m0019 as ygh because the link takes you to the the current Craig Charles show. But I didn't hear anything about the Beebs?! What about the Beebs? I think Alex and the Beebs would get along like vinegar and water? Canadians aside, honestly I clicked to see what he had to say. But glad I did. I can never get enough of the guys being interviewed. Cheers
  5. Driven It's on the phone apple app for Rush Radio while I work on a new camping story. Heavy, grindy, cool sounds.
  6. For sure it ranks in the top ten. It means more than just the music and sounds. It is the guys jamming in a different direction then most expected, it is (so it seems) exactly where their minds and hands wanted to explore. Touring an album that the crew made "down the tubes tour" shirts and wondered where their careers were heading - it is one of their milestones in my opinion. And we would never have heard The Necromancer, otherwise. Pure creative and original fantasy rock! You might call it a creation that sowed the seeds of 2112.
  7. I was off-line browsing and saw this. Our paths have crossed often enough in these forums that I had to log in and wish you a Happy Birthday :) Happy Birthday, Rhyta! And thanks for all the reading advice and such. Best Wishes from the north country.
  8. Care to share? ("funny"?) I look for the titles and posts about the content of the books, but I don't always get the nuance of the subject of a post, the side-references. Call me a dullard, fine. This is, perhaps, one of my most acted upon topics, as it has lead me to so many titles I wouldn't have otherwise known. And, to be fair, a lot of Neil's suggestions.
  9. I was waiting until this exact moment. Sliding onto Home Base in a cloud of dust and the stadium cheering (madly, I might add), I am able to stand and dust off my dirty knees. Wheewwww! Wait, what is the prize? Did I win?
  10. DJLightray, I find your post very interesting! I have a few questions and wish to make a few comments: Are you sampling using a third party app or deliberately looking for defects? You will find them, in almost all digital media. If you are just turning up the music for easy listening and finding "pops" and "skips" on a CD, it is one of the 1-in-a-thousand defects. You have a defective order and should request a return/replace. (I don't work for, or in any way, am associated with the band) And I used to rip-burn in multiple formats to try and hear differences in sound. I looked at the Backstage offers for the 40th release and it is a lot different than last year. But there is no "3 CD" release, per say. There was? There are no details about the sample rate, the hi-res recordings, etc. I don't see them now and they used to list them. It almost looks like the order and demand system has folded under the pressure. That's a good sign the release was very popular. Have you heard others speak about defects in the recordings? Did you order from a third party? Yes, the guys have said they have no control over the marketing and releases, so we hear, but this might not be a RUSH thing - in my opinion, this is an ordering a product thing, no? Reading your post, I listened again to my version of the 40th first CD, Moving Pictures. Marantz SR4023 amp with Stagg SHP-2300 headphones (not hi-fi by any means, but not junk? In the past I have wound my own voice coils and built cabinets for speakers to experiment with different sound qualities. I have used tube amps and circuit amps to play songs and hear the difference. Then (sadly) I lost hearing in one ear, four years ago. But it is amazing how sound still sounds "good", "off", "bad", etc. It's the recording, stupid! I tell myself. So I am not trying to say what sounds better or not. Those days are gone, but defects? "Pops" and "skips" and "relics" and "loss"? Not in the Deluxe version, with the vinyl and the toy car. Not to my ears. Your link is perhaps a bit "cathedral" sounding, or "Hall" sounding - but I didn't hear pops or skips on it. You were asking who has the same brightness? Tell me now, am I unable to hear obvious defects in recordings? The snares in Tom Sawyer can sound like "clipping" and around 2:18 Alex maybe runs out of fingers, but the song was always one of their most challenging songs. That goes for the recording sessions, every...single time, no? The references to forums about the release are about 56 pages long. Nobody mentioned an issue with a faulty recording that I read, just other stuff. Or did I stop reading too soon? Curious as to your reply, not in jest, but in the opinion of the the recording and hearing faults. These guys really cared about the recordings! Cheers :)
  11. Scruffy The Cat - will have to listen to more of their tunes.\ Cheers!
  12. Was that a channel change? Sweet blueschica, very nice. These conversations can go on until somebody gets their feelings hurt.
  13. As a stranger, also, may I try to offer congratulations? I have read that a month can be a very long time when every day, hours within a day, can present many triggers. (By the by, your signature still says...) I was entering the parking lot of the local LCBO recently (our provincial liquor control board outlet). I saw this guy approach the front door and then turn around and walk back the way he came. I immediately thought of the times I turned around at a store front because I had forgotten to grab a mask from the box I kept in the car. I rolled down the window and asked if they forgot their mask, I have plenty, would they like one? He replied "No, I changed my mind. I don't need a drink today". I watched him walk away and frankly, I was learning something in that moment. I was privy to a moment in time of somebody else's challenge that I really never considered before. Thanks for sharing bathory. And may you stay strong in your conviction
  14. It's Piles! You will get piles if you keep sitting there, get up!
  15. I have been reading this, off and on. It IS very interesting and right along with my interest in the history of England. But the writing style is not conducive to long reading sessions. Very dry and matter of fact. The last time I felt this way was Obama's book A Promised Land - very interesting but kind of a "yawner". But so far I have resisted flipping the Kindle back and forth to see the references. That is what I love about books - you can flip around and go right back to where you were. Yes, Kindles do that but always with the touch of this and that menu or drop down list and some navigating of where you want to be and where you were before. Ackroyd lists plenty of archaeological sites and moments of discovery, which I like very much. This book reminded me to look at other histories of Europe. I am also reading The Shortest History of Germany, by James Hawes. My goodness, could those early European's fight! And, like, fight all the time!! And then fight some more! Fight fight fight!
  16. Sorry, remind me (if I should know this) what is the YYNOT tour? (Not a fan of googling everything I encounter just to be on point).
  17. I wasn't clear that I love the music Queen made. And I think May is amazing and plays different styles, absolutely, his range is amazing. Perhaps I might suggest he is a better guitarist than our beloved Alex. I have A Night on vinyl and another that I won't look through my collection for, now. And Live CDs. Queen is in my top five of all times. I was suggesting that Rush did an amazing exploratory type thing with an idea at their early ages and the guitar and Alex's role in that discovery felt very fitting.
  18. Thank you blueschica for the post. I wanted to post the same thing but spent the day volunteering and just got home. Wonderful to see a nod to Canuckistanian Celebrations :) Thank you to all the great folks on these forums for supporting, for decades, the best Canadian trio...EVER!!!!!!
  19. You must be quite interested in Alex's journey of experimenting with sounds, as he has tried to describe. Guitar with "not guitar" sounds, or something like that. Maybe this is a side note, but in terms of strings and sounds, something I always found very, very interesting with Rush's music was having Ben Mink play on Losing It, and Jonny Dinklage (who was a young man thinking it was cool and learned to play the violin) was, decades later invited to play it on the final album live tour. So very cool! Edit: Ok, yes Brian May could play the parts of discovering an instrument in the chapters of 2112, musically, but to me it's a story of discovery very much like Alex and his determination to play. His fingers on the strings is what makes me like those parts so much, almost a life-like discovery. Nothing against scientists, but I can only imagine May seeing an instrument and exclaiming "it's off its axis, the linear angularity and cosmic indifference are not aligned with the..." type discovery. Over thinking, sure, and he made amazing music as a band, as a part of a band. But I don't think of him as an "explorer".
  20. I saw the newsletter, great fundraising idea but not for me. But dear to Alex's heart to be sure, great initiative. My sister is hosting a family that arrives next week, in Edmonton. It was a very long and detailed process but is finally happening. Lots of friends and family sending money and links for things like getting a library card, applying for this and that, finding social clubs to join - a tonne of work!
  21. Man vs. Bee, Netflix. The subtle brilliance of humanity when faced with unbridled torment and the unwavering determination of... Ahem...fine. It's presented in short Chapters. You can test the waters or binge the whole thing in about an hour. Heck, it felt like a brief vacation with all the craziness lately.
  22. Never was a big fan of the whole franchise, but I think Jon Favreau is a genius and the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett (I had to look up the history of both, not knowing anything about them) are brilliant, IMO. In contrast I found the Obi series rather slow and simple. But I guess Jedis are just that? Slow and wise wins the race?
  23. As mentioned above (but lost in all the pizza love) it should be... SOUP!!
