  1. Maybe the Mob could buy a casino in Vegas and set up De Niro is some title-only job and . . . oh, wait. nvm
  2. That "saying" part is the key. My college has also decided to do "virtual" (teaching to/learning from a camera) and online only, and it's really quite distressing how quick to sell out quality classroom instruction they've been. Years now of ed data show that for a particular kind of student, in a particular kind of class, online learning can be just as effective (nothing has ever shown "more effective") as in-seat, but most students are not in that boat, and many classes are not that elastic (like Chemistry, for example!). As a potential patient of doctors or nurses (our nursing classes have also moved online) who did much of their degree remotely, I'm nervous about loss of quality. We had a distancing and sanitation plan ready to go, but have abandoned it. I'm sure that the fee structure for online courses (higher) is just a coincidence. C'mon, vaccine! (hopefully developed by people who learned in actual labs)
  3. 1984 for me; great songs and a great set of memories to go with it.
  4. Could we pick Van Morrison singing Bob Dylan songs?
  5. Though not horrible, Inside Out kind of bored me. It reminded me of an old 90s Fox show called Herman’s Head I loved Herman's Head! But Inside Out is not overrated . . .properly rated, more likely.
  6. Wait, the name of the woman who took this picture is Moon? Wow.
  7. Star Wars Raiders of the Lost Ark From Russia With Love The Usual Suspects Airplane The Holy Grail Unforgiven (or Tombstone, in the "Western" category) The Godfather The Heist The Longest Day
  8. Do you suppose that in, oh, 1351, some dumbass climbed aboard the serf wagon on its way to market, feeling pretty low and a little concerned about the sores and the swelling in his armpits and groin, but still determined to carry on and get as close as possible to every one he could? Is this just how humans are?
  9. I would imagine that they will do something impressive for the album made them Rush (or however Neil phrased it), and then that's likely to be it for the 40th anniversary sets. Big finish!
  10. Don't we all -- as adults, anyway -- sort of expect people to listen to lots of different things? Or at least not be surprised if they do? I love Motorhead, and I also love Hank Williams, Sr. I love Genesis or Yes at their most complex, and I love the early Beatles. I even like the Apocalyptica versions of things! I would laugh at Nazi heavy metal, I guess, if I knew anybody who listened to that s*** . . .
  11. Bands that epitomize the '80s? If we're talking the 80s as distinct from other decades, then I wouldn't have much* metal/hard rock on my list, since those things were residual from the '70s. I guess thrash could be on the list . . . oh, and hair metal. Eurythmics Duran Duran Metallca Motley Crue/Bon Jovi Depeche Mode (Huh, I guess 40% isn't "much")
  12. Yeah I’m not sure how I’ve skipped Nemo all these years. I obviously like Pixar so yeah, i just never got around to doing it. I know about the cast for A Bug’s Life so I’m interested in that too. I think that movie was a bit under the radar so I basically forgot about it. It was very popular back then, but because the movie has no memes, it often gets forgotten nowadays... or at least overshadowed. It's not the memes because I don't pay too much attention to those. I don't remember it being all that popular back then...but that's more likely because I wasn't all that interested back then. Since then I think it's been pretty much forgotten, especially by me. That's because a majority of movies after that were more popular... I wasn't interested when it came out. Then I forgot about it. The popularity of the other movies wasn't why I wasn't interested. As I recall, there was another ant-based movie, Antz, that came out at practically the same time, and I think featured Woody Allen and Stallone in the voice cast; it definitely got more buzz (can I use that one?), although I think it ultimately kind of bombed, and it may have taken A Bug's Life with it a little bit.
  13. "Brave New World" Warren Zevon -- Excitable Boy
  14. The train chase sequence in "The Wrong Trousers" is brilliant! It's all great, but that's especially brilliant. I know that one of my legacies as a parent is that my children still say "Cheese, Grommit!" whenever it works into a conversation . . .
  15. Wait, really? I thought everyone had to watch Finding Nemo, like a UN mandate, or something. A Bug's Life probably seems a bit dated and primitive now, but it's got a great voice cast and a good story; it's worth some of your socially distanced time.
  16. Oh, god, what a f****** gut punch that movie is!
  17. Man, (oh, sorry, LordBlaze), they really have made a bunch of great films -- and a bunch of dodgy sequels. I still can't think of the opening scenes of "Up" without getting misty, dammit. My kids were in the right age range for most of these, but I realize I haven't seen some of the more recent ones (Onward, TS 4, Coco). One of the reasons I don't want to watch TS 4 is because the third one ended so perfectly; a fourth one just seemed like a money grab. Inside Out, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, The Incredibles, A Bug's Life are probably my top five.
  18. Having voted in the "anti" camp, let me add for the record that people should avoid being scumbags and keep their houses looking nice. It doesn't take much time or money if the homeowner stays on top of it. But having neighborhood jobsworths tell them what to do seems a step too far.
  19. I just watched Warrior Nun, and I don't know how I feel about it.
  20. Maybe things are just different in France? This doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd pay to go see, but it looked like there were thousands of people there! Maybe each of the Rockin' 1000 got to bring four friends.
  21. "The Musical Box" Jethro Tull -- Aqualung
