The famous Don Ohlmeyer quote is so useful so often: "The answer to all your questions is money." And the SEC is home to metric shit tons of it. I don't buy the logic that the SEC has "earned" some sort of credit by being the toughest conference. Washington, Michigan, definitely. Florida St. should be a definite, but I heard talking heads whining about their strength of schedule. Texas beat Alabama, so there's a head to head, apples to apples. I know it was early, but that's not some cupcake matchup. If I'm voting: Washington, Michigan, FSU, Texas.

I was giving my nerves a break from the LFC v Fulham match and just popped 'round to comment on this! How can we not love this headline: "Euro 2024 draw: Uefa investigates after sex noises disrupt broadcast" -
I think something similar happened to Samson's team . . . I had long hair in high school (didn't get it cut between 9th grade and senior year -- my mullet was permed; it was so sweet!) but I was a lead in the Spring play my senior year, and on a whim I got it whacked short. My friends were nonplussed, but my drama teacher was relieved. I started growing it out again, but between sophomore and junior year of college, I got it cut into a flat top, and two years after that I just buzzed it down to stubble (never a razor, but no guard on the clippers); that was '94, I think, and I haven't had hair since.

Hmm, since I suppose Spotify came 'round after both were released, the ten-year head start of "Anagram" probably doesn't factor into it, so there goes my first theory.

So you're still hoping for the NFC South crown, eh? -
Considering what we know the Blackhawks will tolerate, this must've been something special . . .

Sports Illustrated Busted for Using AI ?
Nova Carmina replied to Principled Man's topic in Turn The Page
You may very well be right, but it's more likely to cause problems for quickie-make-a-buck operations like the one that owns the hollowed-out husk of SI. When you buy a "gold standard" asset, strip it for parts, and retain only the cachet attached to the name -- that will only last for so long. Actual journalism will probably find ways to work with/around AI, but the "corporate" part of it will always want more, faster, cheaper. -

If you choose not to decide . . . you have chosen "option three." And so I have. -

It was that soft defense that really cost the Bills. -

Oh, this is me with my cleverness reach exceeding my grasp. I just meant it as a joke about the crap fans from Philly doing things like throwing things at opposing players, thus linking Rakow with Philadelphia. -
Damn me if it wasn't! What a game.

Is this 'ere Rakow a suburb of Philly, then, is it? -

While acknowledging my bias, the whiny playacting from Man City is a disgrace to the game. Bernardo should get some sort of BAFTA for his pantomime today. Hang on, LFC! -
Apropos of a conversation in the NFL thread about the playing of Rush songs, during the dying moments of the Mizzou-Arkansas game yesterday, the stadium PA broke out "Working Man." That was nice to hear.

Gotta prefer facing the Welsh -- no telling how well or how badly they'll play, and it might be a down game. The Finns seem more slow and steady. -

Let's hear it for Marquette! Sticking it to Kansas, and getting chippy with some argy-bargy in the process! -
Yeah, brutal. Imagine wasting a season of Mahomes's prime.

How do you rank your life as a sports fan?
Nova Carmina replied to blackhawkrush's topic in One Little Victory
(A disclaimer to deflect claims of bandwagonism) I came of sporting age in the late '70s, with parents who didn't care at all about it, so I choose from the teams that were on my TV or that my schoolmates knew, thus: St. Louis Cardinals -- an A-. Good in the '80s, good again in the '00s; several WS titles. Popular everywhere. Kansas City Royals -- a C. Good 1976-1986, 2014-2015; very, very terrible the rest of the time. Should probably be worse, but this is a gentleman's C. Dallas Cowboys -- a C-. Very good (with a dip) up until about 1995; very mediocre since then. Much psychic pain. Liverpool FC -- A-. Very good in the '80s, periodically very good since about 2005. St. Louis Blues -- B-. Came to the Blues a little later (college friends); mostly mediocre, with occasional high. NBA -- n/a. I rooted for the Lakers against the Celtics, but after the "Dream Team" (aka "The US throws a tantrum about losing and so gathers a team of ringers to feel good about themselves again") I checked out. At the college level, I'm sort of all over the place, but I support Kentucky basketball (grad school) (A-) and Missouri football (children's' alma mater, local school) (C). Averaging all those scores, I get a B- . Sounds about right. Watching so much crap play over the years, though, has taught me to enjoy the little moments of joy -- the great catch, the great save, the late-game heroics -- separately from the outcome. -
Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah!
