  1. Happy Birthday !!! May your day be a pleasant one.
  2. I like both songs, but I kind of got sick of "HOTS" at some point. I believe they actually played the song twice on the ABWH tour (at the beginning of the show as part of a medley, and then the full song later on). That straw broke the camel's back for me.
  3. If I was Led Zeppelin's attorney, I would just have said. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, history has shown that if my clients had stolen a portion of the Spirit song, they would have been a lot more blatant about it.". When Zeppelin stole things, there was certainly no question about it.
  4. With all due respect...I hate them with a passion. They do more with no talent before 9:00am that most people do all day. It's rare that I out and out hate a band, but the "Malcolm in the Middle" theme song and their dunkin donuts jingles pushed me over the edge.
  5. I saw it just last week...last time before that was in the early 80s on HBO and I was just a little kid. It's still an awesome movie! "The Thing" became a rite of passage in my family. All of my kids watched it when they were about 13. A little young, yes, but I felt that I shouldn't shelter them from the harsh realities of dealing with shape-changing aliens. Other "rite of passage" films...Raiders of the Lost Ark, Alien, Star Wars, Jaws.
  6. I saw John Carpenter's "The Thing" when I was 16. We bought tickets to see E.T. since my friend and I were too young for an R rated film and just wandered into the theater showing "The Thing" by "mistake". Anyway...the scene where they think the one guy is having a heart attack and the doctor is trying to revive him. I won't spoil it beyond that. A perfect scene in a nearly perfect movie.
  7. I'm assuming that one of those dogs was Strider of Bron-Y-Aur stomp fame.
  8. Wait a second...that's not Wakeman, it's Howard Hesseman. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations.
  9. I saw them twice in Philly on that tour. Luckily they kept the Union songs to a minimum (or risk an all out riot). As much as I enjoyed the shows, I didn't see them as Yes anymore. I saw them as a bunch of guys who had that name slapped on them to make them viable marketing-wise. It didn't diminish my enjoyment of those shows at all. Is anyone going to see them perform Drama and two sides of TFTO on their current tour? Again, it's not Yes, but it's at least a step up from an all out tribute band.
  10. I think Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips is about as bad as it gets. I like some of their older stuff, but to say that his voice is an acquired taste is a huge understatement.
  11. I think that Rick Wakeman's band timeline is the morse code representation of YYZ. Could it be? A definitive link between Yes and Rush?
  12. Union sucked big time. I'm pretty sure that both Yes factions realized they were coming up with complete garbage musically and figured the only way to sell it was to put it all together. On the tour, I wonder if Trevor was jealous that Steve was getting all the groupies. Actually, I may have that backwards.
  13. I saw them years ago open for BOC and they were great. They are talented musicians who don't have a whole lot of song writing ability (4 legit albums in 30 years). They are evidently headlining a prog festival in Gettysburg this summer. The headlining pickings must have been slim for that to happen.
  14. Play them the song "Roll the Bones". If it's the best thing they've ever heard, there's no hope for them.
  15. Moving Pictures was the end of the "Golden" era in my opinion. Signals was the start of the slow descent into mediocrity from which they never fully recovered. I like the album, but I think that starting with Signals, their better days were behind them. I understand what they were trying to do with it. They had gone as far as they could in the current format and wanted to take things to a new level. It's just not a level that appeals to me as much as where they had been. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed much of their work since Moving Pictures, it just doesn't have that magic. It all comes down to which era is preferred by the individual, and I think that Signals was clearly the start of a new direction.
  16. He KNEW it was coming - there was no betrayal. Granted, he heard about it in a round about way, but that doesn't excuse his dictating the number of shows and totally dissing the overseas fans in the process. Heheheh, so you're convinced of that, huh? Then please allow me to introduce you to the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the Lock Ness Monster! :D You do know that the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, The "Loch" Ness monster and Neil have never been seen at the same place at the same time. Coincidence? I think not. If he was officially finished...there would be no reason for Neil not to come out and say "Geddy and Alex can do what they want with my blessing, but I'm finished!!!". It's possible that he wanted to give some time to see how he feels and will make an announcement then, but the longer it goes, the better the vibes I get.
  17. Based on everything I've read since the announcement of the R40 tour until now, I have a feeling that at the end of the Clockwork Angels tour, the boys had a "gentlemen's" agreement to take a break for x number of years. That break was most likely interrupted by someone's idea to celebrate the 40th anniversary with a tour. One would think that tour would have caused more upheaval in Neil's life than the other two. Given that Neil most likely took some serious convincing to actually participate in R40 (and I've read an early R40 interview that led me to believe that Alex wasn't necessarily on board at first either), I'm not at all surprised with the current "up in the air" status that the band has experienced since then. I think that Neil may have felt a sense of betrayal from Rush management (and possibly the other band members) when the R40 idea came up and he felt the pressure to tour again. I'm still convinced that it's a good sign that nothing official has been announced about the future of the band other than "we'll see". I could see them all get the itch again for recording or touring some day barring any physical ailments. Just trying to make some sense of it all.
  18. For Rush - The Spirit of Radio Everyone else - Beethoven's 5th
  19. Best - R40 show in Philly Worst - Ozzy and Motley Crue at Stabler arena in '84...We thought we were going to have great seats and found out when we got there that we were behind the light/sound board. Nobody in our section could see a thing.

  22. That was frick'n awesome. I totally forgot what day it was.
  23. I can only imagine the pressure that these guys were under on this day 40 years ago. You think you've just created the most incredible rock album ever and are waiting patiently for confirmation from the rest of the world. Then again, the same thoughts were there when Caress of Steel was released, so why should this new 2112 album be any different. Perhaps it's time to start thinking about what to do once this rock star thing is finished.
  24. I would say anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours? I thought to myself, "Rush will be in New Jersey...I will be in New Jersey at the same time, what a coincidence". What I didn't realize when I bought the tickets is that it's a 2 hour drive to Camden from where we were staying. It would have been quicker if I'd started from home. It was a simple brain fart on my end.
