And this is the stuff about which I wish an interviewer would ask the guys. They do ask about unreleased "Studio" songs that are locked away in "the vaults", but they never ask about Live songs that are definitely locked away in those vaults. Geddy and Alex have said time and again that there are no unreleased "Studio" songs. ("Sir Gawain" was scrapped and some of it was salvaged and inserted into "Natural Science". We know that already!) But we know that there are songs played on tours that were recorded but never released on any official Rush Live albums. Why don't the guys open those vaults and haul this Live material out and give it an official release. Hey, more money in the pocket for them, and more Rush enjoyment for us!

After reading these wizened words of Mr. Peart, I have learned a new phrase to explain my (not by choice) life style... I am living in "Financial Embarrassment". Thanks, Neil. What a guy!

I think the song is awesomely beautiful. This is a difficult album to rate though. All six songs are incredible.

I've just never understood it's position on the album, coming in after "Headlong Flight". "Headlong" is such an incredibly powerful, wonderfully uplifting song that just outright rocks. For me, it's one of my Top 10 Rush songs of all. Then they go and follow it with this slow, dread-inducing, black cloud of doom that (in my op) drags the album straight down to a dead stop. Right now, I don't know where a better spot on the album would be for it. Anywhere. Anywhere but here. This is my second least favorite Rush song, just above "Tai Shan".

Been a Rush fan for 36 years now and this is the first time I've ever heard "The Necromancer" live. As bad as the quality is, it sounded great. Thanks for posting it!

I like Tai Shan but totally get why many dislike it. But New World Man & The Pass?? Wow! Those are interesting picks. Not trying to be rude but, why the dislike?? Just curious - if you can articulate/explain it. For me, "The Pass" is my least favorite song from my least favorite album, "Presto". I find the song tedious and just simply boring. Musically, the song just has no guts. It's like it's trying to be soft and gentle and attempting advice, but it's just weak. I mean, "Turn around and Turn around and Turn around" ??? I just have to slam the door on this song. As for "New World Man". Did you know that this song - THIS SONG - is Rush's biggest hit by Billboard's standards? (For what that's worth.) Yep, bigger than "Tom Sawyer". And to me, that song, "Tom Sawyer", is what this song is trying to be. Lyrically, at least. Musically? Yuck. Right from the "popcorn popping" intro, it's just not what I want from Rush. Yes, I know, I know... Rush songs don't all have to be the same thing musically and they certainly aren't. But this song, for me, is the most un-Rush song in Rush's song list. Even un-Rushier than "Tai Shan". "New World Man" received MAJOR airplay from radio stations simply because the song was the shortest on the "Signals" album. And the only reason this song was even recorded in the first place was because the guys decided the album was about 3 minutes or so too short. They pretty much threw this song together and then threw it on the album and radio stations jumped on it because it wasn't the usual 5 or 6 minute Rush length. Lifeson could play this song with his toes (and maybe he does.) Peart is mostly missing except for a quick burst of energy here and there. Lee is more concerned with his synth than his bass. Though that's a problem with most of "Signals". (Well, to me anyway.) "New World Man" did not deserve the radio play it got and it doesn't deserve to be Rush's biggest hit. Blech. I can understand what you are saying about Presto and The Pass. A lot of folks seem to like The Pass (myself included - more on that in a bit) - that's mostly why I asked. As for my feelings on it, I did not like Presto when it came out - not at all. I saw Rush on the Presto tour - it was the first time I had seen them - and loved the show. But the album - no thanks. That started to change when I heard them play The Pass on the VT tour and then saw it on the Rush in Rio DVD. It made me really reconsider the song. Still, it was another couple of years before I started to like the album. Now I would say The Pass might be a top 50 song for me. Almost certainly in their top 75. I have never really sat ranked all of their songs. Its on my "to do" list but just not done it. Given how great Rush is, for a song to be in their top 3rd (or at least top half) of their songs - that a compliment. For New World Man - yes I was aware of the very interesting fact you mentioned. Strange. You would think Tom Sawyer or Limelight or Subdivisions or Spirit of Radio or Freewill or.... Still, it was with that fact i mind that I asked. You are correct, I do like this one. What were your sources for the print ads? I cut them out of magazines when I was a kid. Circus Magazine Maybe Creem Magazine. (Creem's writers hated Rush.) I'm pretty certain I cut the "Farewell To Kings" ad out of Rolling Stone.

"All The World's A Stage" on album for me. Bought it at the local Zayre's Department store. Pretty certain that "Hemispheres" was the second album I bought because I really wanted the song, "The Trees". The Zayre's store didn't have "Hemispheres" so I went ahead and bought "ATWAS". Don't remember the order in which I got the rest of the albums (through Permanent Waves.) But I do remember that I bought "Caress of Steel" at the local Montgomery Ward store and my Mom bought me "Permanent Waves" at the local K-Mart. When I found out she was going shopping, I begged her to get it for me. She said "No", but then surprised me with it when she got home! I Love my Mom! I do remember getting an 8-Track of "2112" from the local Venture Department store, but I had already had the album. (No other 8-Tracks. Geesh, those things were awful! Having to put up with a song fading out and then the tracks clicking around and then the song fading back up. Terrible!) Oh, and a kid in High School named Keith gave me his copy of the debut album, "Rush". So that's where I got that one! From "Moving Pictures" on, I bought all the albums on the date of release. Usually at Flipside Records!

On a scale of 1 to 10, "10" being the best: "Finding My Way" - 9 - A smash-bang introduction that grabs you by the collar and doesn't stop shakin' you silly until it's over. "Need Some Love" - 7 - A damn cool song. They kept it to just the right length. "Take a Friend" - 6 - The weakest song on the album is still pretty darn good. Lyrics are a bit strange, but nothing wrong with that. "Here Again" - 10 - An absolutely beautiful song. Everything comes together and works perfectly. Guitar, bass, drums, vocals. Gorgeous. "What You're Doing" - 9 - Really powerful song that goes for the gut. Awesome all around. "In the Mood" - 10 - Just a fantastic, very basic and very fun song! "Before and After" - 10 - Another song that starts out beautiful and then grows, hit's the mark and keeps right on hitting it. "Working Man" - 10 - The only negative I've ever found in this song is that if you pay attention to the lyrics, you realize that the subject of the song, this Working Man, actually doesn't really do much working. I mean, he gets up at 7. He goes to work at 9. Note that he doesn't say that he starts work at 9. From what he says it would seem that he leaves his house at 9 to head to work. So saying he lives close to where he works, he possibly actually starts working at 9:30. But then, he's home by 5. That would mean that he would have to leave work around 4:30. So he "works" from 9:30 to 4:30. He'd have to have at least a half hour for lunch. That means this "Working Man" actually works a 6.5 hour day. 6 and a half hours?! Not really much of a working man! Musically, the song kicks major ass. As a matter of fact, maybe we should say that "this one goes to 11"!

I'm glad some of you liked seeing the print ads. Wish I had more. And sorry again to the OP for not realizing you meant videos.
