  1. Why did they write it in Gb (G-flat)?!? Thanks, guys. In practical terms, that means two things: 1) if you have a chart, it is written in Gb which means there are six flats (six!). If you're playing on a piano, you have one white key available (the F). 2) as F is your only natural note (six flats!), no open strings for you! Vital Signs used to drive me crazy for a similar reason (it is written in Eb - 3 flats), which makes the verses labor intensive to play (oh well, deal with it, is what an old bass mentor used to tell me) but also makes the break/bass-solo-ish type thing very cool to play. And, it sounds weird in other keys. A dream come true for Jonathon! Congratulations to him! Wow!
  2. The final show airs in the U.S. on BBC America on 7/13 @ 21:00 (9pm) Eastern Time. Pachyderm, missing audience, Hampster and Capt. Slow looking a little lost without the pompous gasbag. It has to be all three for the chemistry to work. The U.S. version is lackluster and while the Australian version is entertaining, nothing matches U.K. Top Gear. I hear Chris Evans has been named and Jodie Kidd is in consideration for one of the presenter slots, but the show is over. The boys were completely puerile, but very, very entertaining. A lot of good years from Top Gear and I will really miss this show. I don't think I will ever see anything top what they did to that Toyota Hi-Lux. Remarkable. :ebert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnWKz7Cthkk
  3. I did not hate The Eagles after this. I hated Don Henley and Glenn Frey. Greddy, F'N Hippies. Yes, they are the worst aspects of the the Eagles. Felder never got the respect he deserved in that band and Henley - Frey sure do think a lot of themselves. Henley is so good he couldn't handle music theory and dropped out of North Texas (of course, he's sold many million more albums than I have, so I really can't talk) and Frey is just a pompous ass. JMO, of course. I notice we have an intersecting show! January 19, 1988 - Reunion Arena - Dallas, Texas (Tommy Shaw)
  4. I watched that damn Eagles documentary on Netflix. I went in feeling kind of indifferent about the Eagles and came away *hating* the Eagles (and I don't use that word lightly). I still like Joe Walsh (his body of work stands on its own), but, boy do I hate the Eagles now. I still like Randy Meisner and like Bernie Leadon and Timothy B. Schmidt seems rather innocuous. I've also learned that Ginger Baker is a bit of an ass and one should beware of him.
  5. Nice job compiling that list! I was blown away to see so many beautiful basses. Geddy on a Thunderbird!!! And more than one! I thought my eyes were fooling me. Absolutely beautiful instruments - some bad ass axes (as it were). Fantastic tone! :haz:
  6. I agree. This is perhaps the finest show I've seen Rush play. I nearly cried when they played Lakeside Park after my face melted off from Cygnus X-1 (who knew there was a drum solo at the centre of a black hole ) My only wish was that they'd played La Villa. I know I'm in the minority, but I've never been a big Jacob's Ladder fan (but it did rock, plodding though it is). Oh to see what they've been playing in Toronto, Newark, what's coming up in NYC, Vancouver, LA. So, okay two wishes, La Villa and Losing It. :hi: Rick :hi: Hope you're well. :)
  7. This news gutted me. The high of a fabulous Rush concert last week and now this. :( RIP Chris A true legend and my heart and thoughts go out to his family and friends. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHFox6wyXfw
  8. I'd love to hear: Need Some Love ByTor - the full version with a gigantic guitar solo :haz: Lakeside Park Bastille Day Cygnus X-1 - I would faint in the arena
  9. At 5'5" you should be able to get on some guy's shoulders. As a female, security will probably let you cheat forward too! I wouldn't count on that. Yeah, that seems... unlikely. On the CA tour, I had great seats up the side and it was AWESOME but I couldn't stand up without blocking people and my neighbors were some loud fellows talking *over the songs* about lawn care. This time I wanted to get on the floor so I could stand and rock out a little. I assume most people up front will share my enthusiasm. (Right?) Do people really "cheat forward"? Would you say the atmosphere is generally friendly or aggressive (if you're a woman)? Not aggressive. I suppose there could always be exceptions but so far I've met a lot of nice people. I usually end up striking up a conversation with the people around me. It's fascinating to find out where people are from, how far they've traveled to the show, how many times they've been to concerts...etc. It's like a big huge family at a concert. More so than any other band I've ever seen. I agree. I've never felt any aggression at a Rush show. I've always found the crowd to be very engaging and friendly. I'm standing and rocking out and singing at the top of my lungs regardless of where I'm standing ... er, sitting ... and I sometimes wear earplugs but usually don't and haven't had a problem. And if you're the only one in the section who is standing and rocking out ... well then you're in a lame section (it's a Rush concert!) and politely smile and rock out if someone decides to ask you to sit down at a Rush concert. At least while the band is playing. If you're standing and rocking out and Rush isn't on stage yet, well ... Oh, yeah ... and enjoy the show! :)
  10. We're getting the full Laura show, and we heard snippets of I've Been Runnin' on BTLS. Yeah, I loved seeing Rutsey sing and talk to the audience on BTLS. Kind of a different vibe than our beloved Professor. I'm totally psyched for Secord :haz: Tasty chocolate too...
  11. I'm curious about the two "previously unheard" I've Been Runnin' and The Loser. I don't know those songs. Maybe the full Laura Secord show? ETA: Montreal '97 will be cool. Great tour.
  12. Great photos! :ebert: Thanks, YYZumbi! :)
  13. III for me with HOTH a close second. Since I've Been Loving You and No Quarter are my two favorite Zep songs.
  14. That Barney Rubble. What an actor! I tend to work crazy hours (IT). Day shift mostly, but support is 24 x 7. with a window of 02:00 to 06:00, so there are a lot of early mornings if there's a disruptive change occurring. The cycle can be very disruptive to circadian rhythms. Maybe I should start an escort service out of the county morgue?
  15. With no spam? Impressive :ebert: Congrats lerxt1990!
  16. Happy Birthday, HAS! I hope you have a great day.
  17. Well, that was...er...different... I would totally freak out if I saw that while walking down the street.
  18. Exclusively my phone lately. It's taken me a while to acclimate and I miss being able to easily post links from YouTube or emoticons (like my curtsey for YL and a cylon thumbs up). For some reason I seem to be browser averse on my PC unless I'm buying something or paying a bill.
  19. Agreed. For some reason, I always hear the tumbleweed song when I hear the word bumblebee. Bumbling along with the bumbling bumble bees. :musicnote:
