  1. Very nice! I noticed they mentioned Saratoga and I'm going to assume that's Saratoga, NY, which means SPAC this summer! It'll be great to see them again since I didn't catch them on the 2012 tour. :)
  2. Are these "other musicians" playing almost 3 hour long sets of intricate and demanding music with such efficiency as Rush? Probably not, therefore that is "real[ly] tough" and they do deserve a break. likeclockwork makes a great point. Although it's just speculation, it does make sense as a potential scenario with all factors satisfied. These guys deserve a break and I'm sure they'll be back in full force after a break.
  3. Yup, my thoughts exactly! Maybe even stick in The Wreckers, but that's pushing it.
  4. Late to the game, but... Exactly. I love the song. Like you said, it's just a fun song to loosen up over. It's the exact opposite of Rush. It's fun to hear in the bars when I go out and it accomplishes it's purpose, which is a good dance song to dance and have fun with. People really need to loosen up.

    CA in the charts

QUOTE (tas7 @ Oct 25 2012, 05:47 AM) Up from 167 to 164 but Journeys biggest tits goes back up to 64.Surely people must have bought every copy.By the way are they in the RRHOF? I don't believe so. Last I heard, fans have been screaming for them to get in. Most, if not any, arena rock bands haven't been inducted.
  6. I was gonna go to this one (would have been my second Rush show), but finances weren't there at the moment as well as being on a Monday night, which makes it difficult with college. I'm hoping that they will tour in NY again on the second leg, hopefully at SPAC. Hearing everyone talking about this show makes me wish I found a way to see them at Barclay. Here's to hoping!
  7. I actually quite enjoy the song, especially musically. Sure, it's not Neil's best lyrics, but I never found areas to be cringeworthy as others suggest. (Although, with that said, I always focus more on the music than lyrics.) That's reserved for some of their earlier work and a few others sprinkled throughout their later career.
  8. If Rush does get in, I won't complain. It gives them more recognition, and they deserve that for their accomplishments.
  9. QUOTE (Rushfanman @ Sep 27 2012, 09:50 PM) The weakest song on the current tour is Manhattan Project, that tune should have stayed in the 80's. Why? It's an incredibly beautiful song with a powerful message that still has meaning, especially with how thing's are occurring today in the world. It's not a synth heavy song at all. It's very different and I believe the first time Rush incorporated a string ensemble/orchestra into their music. I don't believe a song has to be riff-heavy and fast in order to be a concert song. I bet many would disagree with you though. I have seen quite a few people who have been very responsive to the song.
  10. Voted CA by accident. GUP gets my real vote though. It flows nicely and just sounds cool, and the cover image only enhances that 'coolness'.
  11. Just noticed Tom Sawyer is also up for a vote on the 10th day: http://www.vh1.com/music/tuner/2012-09-24/...ard-100-day-10/ Currently in third behind Black Sabbath and Poison.
  12. Voted. EDIT: Currently Quiet Riot in the lead with 24.01% with Rush in a near second at 23.69%.
  13. QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Sep 26 2012, 02:54 PM) QUOTE (dayglow76 @ Sep 25 2012, 08:10 PM) Yes.they always do 2 legs for a new album tour. Alex stated that if they played CA in it's entirety it wouldn't be until the 2nd leg. I think we can safely say, Alex is the most unreliable source for rumors and spoilers. In the Guitar Player article, he says they'll continue to play Camera Eye on this tour... ???? Durp. To be fair, that was said during rehearsals. It probably was trimmed for time, probably to Alex's dismay. As to the OP's question, I hope so. I put off going to see them for this leg because of financial reasons and also that they are performing too far from me.
  14. QUOTE (Supersyl @ Sep 19 2012, 08:44 PM)Actually, I think it's Geddy who's the more obsessive one... There's this notion that every Rush "problem" comes from Neil, but I've always believed they come more from Geddy... Look at Neil, with all his instructional DVD's, his jazz stuff, his motorcycle riding, his books, his internet postings... He gets all the bad rap, when honestly, I think it's Geddy dragging Rush down... He reminds me of people I know, who would never, at any cost try something just for the heck of it... Big Al doesn't care one way or the other... He's happy to be along for the ride, and enjoys every minute of it! I think it's a bit unfair to make that claim. I believe Geddy has mentioned many times before that he's a perfectionist and very methodical compared to Alex, so perhaps there is the potential that he may be less lenient with band affairs (e.g. what songs performed). But you also have to remember that Geddy doesn't have just one role in the band. He's playing 3 instruments: bass, keyboards/pedals, and also performing vocal duties. He has a lot on his plate (only increasing the already present pressure), so it's only natural to potentially be stricter. Of course, all speculation. No actual proof on who is or who isn't stricter with band affairs and it would be unfair to fervently state such.
  15. I always believed he sung those parts live. The only part that looks and sounds like 'miming' is during the blues section of Clockwork Angels. I could be wrong though.
  16. QUOTE (RushIslander @ Sep 12 2012, 07:51 PM) Does anyone know if the guitar Alex uses in TMP is a Melancon or Fender...? If you're referring to Manhattan Project, I believe it's his Fender Telecaster.
  17. Hah, troll much? You're thread title pretty much sums up your post. It's "terrible terrible terrible". Troll elsewhere.
  18. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Sep 11 2012, 06:16 PM) I can't speak for Alex Lifeson or Neil Peart, but I have read more than once interviews with Geddy where he says Power Windows is among his favorite Rush albums. I have a feeling Geddy called most of the shots on the setlist because of the toll the tour takes on him. I can't imagine Lifeson being too excited about playing a lot of this stuff I dunno, Alex looks pretty excited when playing the synth songs. All are rocking and have plenty to keep him busy and challenged, at least I would think so. Even though the guys are playing the synth songs, they have more balls to them, mostly because of Alex amping up and with Geddy also singing in his modern voice.
  19. I thought it was awesome! It had a techno dance vibe going on and reminded me of stuff I hear in college. The melodic percussion is really cool. I know some people will say that it's pansy-like or use other negative terms descriptions, but I find it to be great that he can continue to branch out and try different stuff. I like a wide range of music across all spectrums, so I can enjoy this as well as his other drum solos on this tour.
  20. QUOTE (Bastille Night @ Sep 9 2012, 05:44 PM) Here's my vid of Neil's 'electronic' solo, just before Red Sector A. I've got a few more, but man they take a long time to upload! http://youtu.be/tmB8G3dyKIE That drum solo is freakin' cool. Had a techno dance vibe going on. He really is a versatile player! That was the best use of his electronic set in a solo, in my opinion.
  21. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Sep 9 2012, 09:41 PM) QUOTE (GUP1771 @ Sep 9 2012, 09:35 PM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Sep 9 2012, 08:26 PM) QUOTE (LotusLand @ Sep 9 2012, 08:17 PM) So much to pick from, so many songs that could have been "in your face" and we get, Big Money, Force 10, Bravado, Red Sector A, and a few other has beens. and lets not forget the in your face rocker, the body electric. Does everything need to be a "in your face rocker"? no but there are so many better choices out there. kid gloves and the enemy within would have been a ton better. the body electric is a weak track. I agree with you with that. I'd prefer The Enemy Within any day over The Body Electric, but oh well. QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Sep 9 2012, 09:40 PM)QUOTE (GUP1771 @ Sep 9 2012, 10:35 PM) Also, I've read that people who want Natural Science to be played again or La Villa. While both are excellent and I would love to see them, both have been played live fairly frequently in this modern era. The Analog Kid, Grand Designs, Middletown Dreams, The Body Electric, Where's My Thing, Territories, etc. haven't been played in almost 20 years or more. Let other fans have their moment. I can agree with this. Force 10, Bravado, Dreamline and a couple others dont fit into this idea (IMO). Oh, of course. I'm not disputing that with those songs. Just saying there are a lot of rarities this time around that haven't been played in ages.
  22. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Sep 9 2012, 09:08 PM)I'm seeing all these tweaked setlists and it's interesting to read when you don't have limitations, but what if you could only take 5 songs out and replace them with 5 that are somewhat logical and in theme with where Rush is in their careers, what would those 5 be? Subdivisions Big Money Force 10 Kid Gloves (Replace Body Electric) Cut to the Chase (Replace Grand Designs) Jacobs Ladder (Replace Territories) Analog kid Bravado Wheres my thing Far Cry Set 2 Caravan BU2B (Replace Wish them Well) Clockwork Anarchist Carnies Wreckers Headlong flight Halo effect The garden Manhattan project 2112 (REPLACE RED SECTOR A) YYZ Working man Encore Tom Sawyer Limelight Spirit of radio I know I am in the minority but I am really disappointed at no BU2B, my favorite off the album and it has become one of my all time fav Rush tunes. I also think it really came off well live during the Time Machine Tour. Reaplace Wish them Well with BU2B Never cared for Power Windows so 4 songs off that album just doesn't excite me. I took out Territories and replaced with Cut to the Chase one of those inexplicable songs they won't play but it rocks I love love love Grace Under Pressure but they happened to pick my 2 least favorite songs from that album. Take out Red Sector A and throw in 2112 which always gets the crowd's juices flowing. I toom out The Body Elecric and replaced with one of my facorite Rush songs from the 80's-Kid Gloves I am on the same page with everyone else. Jacob's Ladder is epic and must be played. Replace Grand Designs with Jacob's Ladder Amazing what 5 changes does to the overall look of the setlist Set 1: Subdivisions The Big Money Prime Mover (Replace Force Ten) The Enemy Within (Replace The Body Electric) Grand Designs Territories / Middletown Dreams (Instead of switching with the former spot of The Body Electric, switch with Territories.) * The Analog Kid Bravado / The Pass Wheres My Thing Far Cry Set 2: Caravan Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Carnies / Seven Cities of Gold The Wreckers Headlong Flight Halo Effect The Garden Jacob's Ladder (replace Wish Them Well and moved slot to be placed after The Garden) (Not my first pick, but I know how many fans would kill to have it, so I added it in.) Manhattan Project / Dreamline YYZ Working Man The Spirit of Radio (Removed Red Sector A, which I hated to do, and in it's spot moved The Spirt of Radio to close Set 2.) Encore: Tom Sawyer Limelight (Added in) 2112 [Overture / Temples / Grand Finale] (Made Encore to stay the same each night.) * Didn't count as a real song change in my eyes. Just different slot. Okay, changes might be questionable and over 5 because of moving some things around, but physically adding or removing should be 5. Hard to do only 5 though. I could've butchered the list, mostly from moving things around and taking out/adding more. Also, I did both nights for this.
  23. QUOTE (Snaked @ Sep 9 2012, 08:58 PM)QUOTE (LotusLand @ Sep 9 2012, 09:17 PM) This is a lazy setlist. Period. That is one of the most disrespectful comments I have read regarding this tour. Let me break this down for you. There are 17 songs being played this tour that have either NEVER been played live (the CA material) or haven't been played in at least 19 years. THAT is not lazy. THAT takes balls. To learn 17 songs for a tour is a hell of a lot of effort. Lazy would have been Freewill - again La Villa - again Red Barchetta - again The Trees - again Between The Wheels - again Distant Early Warning - again ... and the list goes on. The boys totally flipped the setlist this time around. They could have taken the easy way out and been lazy.. regurgitating the same material again.. .but no. They worked their asses off for US. You don't like the setlist. Thats a shame. They worked very hard on it for us. I didn't see your post, but you're spot on. Well said!
  24. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Sep 9 2012, 08:26 PM) QUOTE (LotusLand @ Sep 9 2012, 08:17 PM) So much to pick from, so many songs that could have been "in your face" and we get, Big Money, Force 10, Bravado, Red Sector A, and a few other has beens. and lets not forget the in your face rocker, the body electric. Does everything need to be a "in your face rocker"? As to the OP's statement, I think the only people complaining about the setlist are 70's fans and maybe those who want to hear the classics. Both sides I can understand, especially when people really wanted to hear Jacob's Ladder and Losing It. While I've never understand the appeal of Jacob's Ladder to such a degree, I know it's one of (if not, the number one) most requested song for Rush to play today. I guess the band just don't feel comfortable playing it. Maybe the case still stands that it isn't translating well live in today's setting. My biggest beef though is that many people who have whined and complained that Geddy's voice sucks or it's shot are also the same one's who happen to complain there isn't enough 70's, higher pitched material. I don't get that. You can't have both ways. Geddy's voice doesn't have that range anymore without causing damage and harm to him. Also, I've read that people who want Natural Science to be played again or La Villa. As to my personal opinions of the setlist, it's not my perfect setlist whatsoever, and there would be changes I'd like to have for sure, but I'm not gonna whine and call the list "lazy" or as other's have put it, 'poor', etc. Rush chose these songs for a reason and I give them credit to have the confidence to choose so many songs that may be obscure or been in the vault for so long. You might not like the list and there's nothing wrong with voicing your opinions in a respectful way (wishing they played songs that were in line with your tastes), but don't be rude to call it "lazy" just because you don't agree with it. You're not up there performing all of these songs every other night, or have spent weeks upon weeks in preparation for this tour. It might be DISAPPOINTING for you, but it's NOT lazy.
