  1. A place you can escape the world Where the dark lord cannot go Peace of mind and sanctuary by loud water's flow
  2. I love this version! (But then i love Gregorian chant anyhow.) It is my understanding that no one would be allowed to record and distribute any song written by someone else without getting prior approval. It's against copyright law and they would be sued. So no legitimate recording artist would ever try to get away with it.
  3. Definitely "The Enemy Within." Although I love Middletown Dreams too. Jacob's Ladder is also one I would love to hear, but I don't think that one's ever going to happen.
  4. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Jan 22 2012, 06:27 PM) "Hello Oregonians" while playing the Sleep Country Amphitheater in Ridgefield (just north of Vancouver), WASHINGTON . . . . . (OK, in fairness, he's not the first guy in a band to say the same thing and the venue is located in what is basically a suburb of Portland, OR) . . . . I love the fact that the 2 times I've seen them at The Gorge Amphitheater that he has mentioned what a beautiful place it is (cuz it's true). Okay, I'm not from Oregon or WA - I came down to that show from Canada - but where else would Oregonians go to see Rush? I assumed that the majority of people at that show were from Oregon, since they played at WRA the year before and they also played at the Gorge in 2011. On the other hand, if I was from WA, I guess that intro might have bothered me. As for Geddy's intro's, I like them cuz they're short and to the point. My favourite is when he introduces Neil's drum solo on ATWAS, "the professor on the drum kit!"
  5. Resist. I love the acoustic version of this song on R30. Geddy's voice sounds superb. Starting to like the T4E studio version more also, since we got a new stereo system. T4E sounds SO much better on it, for some reason!
  6. QUOTE (wilb1972 @ Jan 17 2012, 06:19 AM) QUOTE Neil never got to proof Hemis cover art and was,his words, "horrified" when he saw it Yea Hemispheres is a strange cover, even if the guy wasn't nude, it would be odd. Rush has some cool covers, but they have the odd one from time to time and that is certainly one of 'em. I don't know if Hugh was going for some sort of Hipgnosis-styled cover or what, but I can see why Neil was 'horrified'. Power Windows is another odd cover. "Power Windows is another odd cover. " What's odd about the Power Windows cover? I like it. It looks pretty normal to me.
  7. I think I would feel a bit sad at first because a lot of the old feelings would come rushing back. But then I would be happy that he finally contacted me and now I could stop wondering why he stopped calling. I would have a sense of closure, and be able to put it behind me. I would not read more into it, and I would definitely not try to contact him and revive anything. In fact, I would be suspicious and wary of what the guy might be like after all these years. Is he the kind of guy who would cheat on his wife? In that sense, it would be a bit creepy because you never really know what's going on with people who contact you online. So overall, I would treat it as a sort of "tying up of old threads" and move on.
  8. And the sun is peaking through See, the steps grow lighter
  9. He's got a force field and a flexible plan He's got a date with fate in a black sedan He plays fast forward for as long as he can But he won't need a bed - He's a digital man
  10. That's great! We saw that sign too last year on our way to see Rush.
  11. I love this album too. Geddy's vocals are superb, and all 3 play their instruments so well, they sound better than the originals. I understand that it's not true Rush music because they didn't write these songs, but when these songs are played by the best musicians on the planet, it's still an amazing album.
  12. I'm a mosquito magnet. The critters love me more than anyone else around me!
  13. I voted no because it would be dangerous and history would get all messed up. However, I would love to go back and be an observer, as some people have said. I would especially love to go to some Rush concerts in the past. I didn't become a fan until 1995, so would love to see the early shows (before I knew they existed) - how awesome would that be?
  14. QUOTE (liddybuck01 @ Jan 9 2012, 01:41 PM) QUOTE (presto123 @ Jan 9 2012, 02:57 PM) I think SnA Live looks better but it's the performance and energy of Time Machine that trumps SnA live. and yes, many of the shots were out of focus. i also don't like that they missed things, as you said(such as not showing Neil's feet doing double bass, but showing him doing basic stuff). i also don't like that they left in shots of the guys talking to each other and to audience members. and a lot of the shots of the audience were weird. like the one shot from far away shows people talking to each other, and someone playing on their cell phone. idk, seems like they should've edited better. also, the bonus features, compared to other dvds, are garbage. seems like there could've been more, INCLUDING footage that SHOULD'VE been shot of everyone outside of the RnRHoSh*t. also, no skit from the end of the show. wtf?? idk, i love the dvd, great set list, great energy, but maybe they should stick to documentaries. It's interesting how everyone's perceptions are different. I've watched the blu-ray quite a few times now and I love it! I actually like that they left in shots of the guys talking to each other and to audience members, and I somehow missed seeing someone playing on their cell phone. Instead of finding those shots to be weird, they make me feel more like I was there. (which I couldn't be, but I did see them twice in other venues.) I heard that the skit from the end of the show (I Love You, Man) was left off due to copyright issues. I loved all the bonus features - thought the skits were hilarious! But I guess that just goes to show that Rush fans' interests are as varied as Rush fans are!
  15. Most unlike Rush? Josh Groban - his operatic voice is amazing. Other likes: Bluegrass Flamenco Gordon Lightfoot Old 70's stuff like Max Webster, Styx, and Yes
  16. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Jan 5 2012, 04:53 AM) The planned encore is a relic of days gone by that, for some reason, refuses to die. Encores were supposed to be spontaneous - if a performer did exceptionally well, the thunderous reaction at the end of the show would convince him to go back out for one more song. Sometime in the past few decades, the planned encore took hold and won't let go - and it's not just Rush, it's pretty common. Them: "Thank you very much, good-night!" Me: "<sigh> Wait for it... wait for it... 3... 2... 1..." Them: "We're back! You wouldn't let us leave!" Me: "BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T TURN ON THE LIGHTS!" Rush always "plays exceptionally well" and "gets a thunderous reaction" so of course an encore is required, and therefore planned. How could they not?
  17. A wound that will not heal- A heart that cannot feel- Hoping that the horror will recede Hoping that tomorrow- We'll all be freed
  18. QUOTE (presto123 @ Jan 4 2012, 12:00 PM) QUOTE (FOH Lights @ Jan 4 2012, 09:25 AM) QUOTE (presto123 @ Jan 3 2012, 05:19 PM)QUOTE (MMCXII @ Jan 3 2012, 05:33 AM) I don't believe this. I'm not calling the OP a liar but I don't think it's a north American tour. They try to tour in the summer because of Geddy's voice. This is more and more important as each year passes! There's also Neil's riding and who wants to argue with Neil Peart??? Thats right, nobody! Either this guy was talking about a south American tour or warm climate somewhere else. Or maybe he was pulling your leg and wants you to be pleasantly surprised when the SUMMER Tour is announced! Agree totally. I was thinking about this yesterday. Howard probably didn't want to come out with the exact truth when somebody asked him about touring. I still hope it's a summer tour and spring release. You're right. I don't think Neil will pass up a chance to ride in the summer. Howard doesn't BS about things like that. A fan asked him a question and off the cuff, he gave him the information he had at that time. However, as someone else pointed out, things can/did change very quickly. Why is that so hard to believe? As for Neil, he rides in just about any weather. You don't seriously believe that Rush tours are planned around his riding comfort... do you?? Actually I do believe that. It has always seemed lately that Neil gets his way when it comes to stuff like this. The other two are more go with the flow I think. Just like when Ged and Alex wanted Neil to play Closer To The Heart at one of the overseas shows I think and Neil vetoed it right away. I know they consider it a democracy but really I think Neil wears the pants when it comes down to it. I agree totally. Neil wears the pants and the tours are scheduled around his riding route. I believe this is also one of the reasons we see so little of them in Canada. The cities are too far apart to make it between shows. Geddy and Alex are more flexible because they fly. The equipment also has to be shipped, and bad winter weather can affect that severely. Neil rode all across Canada on his Ghost Rider trip and probably doesn't want to repeat such a long trip for just a few shows. Just my 2 cents.
  19. I don't text and I have no interest in learning how. I believe in phoning, e-mailing, talking to face-to-face, and yes, I even believe in hand-writing letters to friends! Sometimes I wish we could do without computers, but then I would really miss TRF! If this means I'm a luddite, so be it!
  20. I was thrilled to be able to see Rush twice during the TM tour, once in 2010, and again in 2011. 1. Aug. 2010, White River Ampitheater, Auburn, WA, 308 km from my home in Canada. Don't know what that is in miles. We drove and made it part of our vacation to Wash. and Oregon. Was the only show in the Pacific Northwest, so the competition for seats was stiff. Bought my tickets $100 each, from Ticketmaster through the Citibank pre-sale, but since I wasn't able to afford V.I.P. tickets, got 23rd row, which was terrible for me as a short person in that arena. When everyone stood, I had look over the people in front of me and down onto the stage. Still loved the concert. Sorry to hear about the struggles to get disability seating. That doesn't seem fair. 2. June 2011, Sleep Country Ampitheater, Ridgefield, WA, just outside of Portland. 448 km from home. Drove again and made a wonderful vacation out of the trip. Bought the tickets from Ticketmaster again through the pre-sale from Citibank. This time paid $280 each for V.I.P. seats and was thrilled to get 11th row. This concert was even better than the previous year, because I could actually see!
  21. If this is true, it sucks! I depend on summer tours, because I live in the middle of nowhere and have to travel! Due to my work schedule, I will never be able to get time off in the fall.
  22. Resist (R30) The Pass (Rio) Presto Didn't like this song on the studio version, but love it on TM!
  23. QUOTE (That One Guy @ Dec 23 2011, 02:39 AM) Anyone seen the Trailer Park Boys episode with Alex Lifeson. I'd started up with the series, and didn't even know there was a Rush related episode. Lifeson gets kidnapped! Made me lol for a minute. Isn't it hilarious? I've heard that at least one of those guys is a good friend of Alex's. That episode was on youtube for awhile-don't know if it's still there.
  24. I grew up on the Canadian prairies and gifts were ALWAYS wrapped, no matter how big they were. Now I live on the west coast and it's the same.
  25. QUOTE (NobodysHeroine @ Dec 21 2011, 03:41 PM) http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y371/Priestess-of-Syrinx/RushDay.jpg This was made while I listened to the entirety of "2112." Easily the most epic twenty minutes and thirty seconds of my life. I do not care what anyone says otherwise -- to me, Geddy has a beautiful voice. Especially during "Discovery." I agree. Geddy has the most incredible voice. I got home from work and played 2112 in its entirety also. Then I watched the first half of TMT with my husband. 2112 grows on me more every time I hear it. As if it's possible for me to become a more avid Rush fan! Happy day, everyone!
