I really don't mind, as long as it is Rush related. I think most Rush fans never come on internet boards, so I think it's a great way to advertise your product. Clem

How about including "The Grand Finale" from 2112? I always thought that one should count. I really can't rank them. They're all awesome. Hope is a little stagnant for me - mainly because it's just an acoustic guitar. If we can't count Broons Bane, than I don't think we should count Hope either :) Clem

For G Lee! "The Fountain Of Lamneth" VS "The Fountain Of Salmacis"
clem replied to RUSHHEAD666's topic in Rush
Love Rush Love Genesis Hate Fountain of Lamneth Not crazy about Fountain of Salmacis I like parts of Lamneth, but other parts spoil the whole experience for me (diadicts and narpits, panacea come to mind) I've never really been crazy about any of Genesis' early early work. I personally don't enjoy their work until 1973's Selling England By the Pound Clem -
Sign me up for that church, please. Clem

Of course we COULD view this in a positive way....this is one more sign that the boys have "made it". I don't think they would have garnered this attention 10 years ago. Mebbe someone in the Westboro clan is a closet 'Rolling Stone' reader?? Clem

Pretty much Neil's same ole' list. Lots of King Crimson, (old) Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Bill Bruford, Yes. Kinda wish this would get shaken up a bit......

What can possibly top last Fridays Concert? •••Spoiler•••

Very nice list. Except you left out "The Big Wheel" clem -
You are correct. No curtain in Austin. Venue was a big let down. Would have preferred an indoor venue.

How does this tour rate? (possible spoilers)
clem replied to LittleRushmonkey's topic in R40 Tour Forum
overall, very good, but they overdid it slightly with all the stage props. I really didn't want to have to look at a guy in red overalls on a ladder during "Xanadu". Clem -
 The great thing about this forum is it provides an avenue to criticize stupid things that Neil says as well as the inane blowhard reactions to what Neil says. As well as a place to talk about what your favorite song on Test For Echo is, and why, for 22 pages. And endless polls debating the best four consecutive words in a Rush song. :eyeroll: I understand your point. Make a suggestion. Start a topic. I've done that in the past. Nothing comes to mind at the moment as being worthy of discussion. I wish others would have those same self-editing skills. How about: POLL: "Should Alex where a hairplug this tour?" _ Yes _ No

you clearly have not peeked into SOCN Hint the "N" doesn't mean neocon. I'd go search for it, but I don't really care. :) Good for you. I've never been there either. I believe it stands for "Sense O Clock News" which is where you can go discuss heavy topics such as politics and religion. There are strict rules over there, and I believe you can get kicked out if you're too overbearing with your posts. Whenever topics on another board tend to stray in that direction, the moderator will "move" the discussion there.

That's just your biased opinion because you are a Rand Paul fanboi. Me, I doff my cap to Mr Peart for the first time in a long time. Good on him. Now we know why he avoids the fan base like the plague - they're all Randian psychopaths devoid of humanity. I think the problem some of us are having has to do with how Mr. Peart expressed his politics. Not agreeing with Mr. Paul's politics is one thing, but to state, "he obviously hates woman and brown people" is lazy and uninformed. Mr. Peart is expressing his politics with talking points. Uninformed talking points. By the way, I'm not a fan of either Rand. How do you know his opinion is uninformed? Because Rand Paul doesn't hate brown people and women. Again, disagree with the role of government in people's lives, but avoid the ad hominem attacks. It's easy to accuse those you disagree with as racists and misogynists. It's a lazy spoon fed argument. Some think charity can work without government intervention and not be about hating brown people and women. Amen, brother. Of course, it could be that Mr. Peart was quoted out of context. It's been know to happen- and RS magazine tilts very heavily to the left.

I remember cringing an awful lot when I heard the Jim Ladd interview with Neil a couple of months ago. Of course, I'm partly to blame. As soon as Jim Ladd called Roger Waters "intelligent", I should have turned the interview off right then and there. Clem

They weren't all from the same show. Yup. Am aware. I'm thinking specifically of the performance of The Analog Kid. It's been awhile, so I don't remember all the details. Clem

they always fix up their live recordings somewhat. I think all bands do. I remember some of the performances on Different Stages sounded a lot different that some of the boots from the (supposedly) same show. Clem

As far as I know, they've only ever done that when they extended the tour into the next year. Until we hear otherwise, assume this tour is it, and any extension is not happening. Makes sense. Here's another question for y'all. And I'm not trying to be a smartass, because I like to own these things too. Why is it important for you to own a physical copy of the tourbook? The Cygnus X1 site will have all of the images scanned and all of the text available as well. For me, I like the physical object - I prefer physical books to e-books, for example. But I'm not sure about pictures. How often do I take the tourbooks down from the shelf and look at them? It's just as easy to bookmark the images tab of the Cygnus site . . . Good question. I'm the opposite - I prefer e-books to regular ones but have all the tour books in a physical copy. Maybe I just like the "souvenir" aspect. Plus, 30 years from now when the band (maybe?) stops playing, I'm sure I could get a hefty sale of E-Bay. :)

Dunno if this has been discussed here - but there was a similar study when Neil Young released his "Pono" player (I think that's what it's called). Without going into too many details, it was supposed to be a portable device that only played high quality stuff. It was basically a bitter response to MP3s and all things condensed. Well, when they did a study, they let people listen to the music on the player side by side with the same music in condensed MP3 format, and the vast majority couldn't tell the difference. Clem

I believe $25 or $30. Want to say $30. That plus a shirt is a lot of money for THIS poor fan.... Clem

Sorry for disagreeing with most, but I think Nick R. kicks ass as a producer. Oh, sure, he's nothing like Terry Brown, and I realize a lot of folks liked his crystal, clear production where you could hear every bell and triangle that Neil whacked, but rock and roll is supposed to be loud and a tad bit obnoxious. Of course, even I have limitations, as I thought the original Vapor Trails was awful - as it was TOO loud, and TOO crunchy etc. AND, I'd love to hear this remixed "Headlong Flight" anyways. Clem

PW: Emotion Detector HYF: Prime Mover would have been cool Presto: War Paint. But I'd settle for anything other than "The Pass" (heard it too much) or "Available Light" (too boring live, I would think) T4E: I'll go with The Color of Right Clem

I believe that Neil mentioned in the Tour Program notes that the original musical arrangement for this song was NOTHING like what they ended up recording. The thought seemed to be that Geddy and Alex loved the LYRICS so much, that they weren't going to let them go to waste. Am very glad. It's definitely a song that goes up or notch or two, quality wise, because the lyrics are so awesome. Regardless of one's political and religious belief, the sentiments in this song ring very true. Our instincts are to argue and slam anyone with a viewpoint other than our own, and this is just ugly and counterproductive. Clem

Probably in my top 3 or 4 from that album. Then again, I really like (most of) the album. Many don't. C'est la vie. Clem

Thanks all. I definitely learned a few things! My whole curiosity started when Alex's acoustic stopped working during the "Closer to the Heart" intro in Austin, and he had to give it a whack to try to get it working again. Then I saw the Rush and Rio video and noticed he didn't even USE an acoustic for that intro. He probably now wishes he didn't during the Austin show. Clem
