  1. Thanks. I used to work in the biz back in the 90s and got to meet many musical celebs. Because of my line of work, most were Country-Western and sadly, I'm not a fan. I actually had lunch with Garth Brooks when he was at the top of his game, and he was a super super nice guy. Made me wish I liked Country music. The biggest rock celebs I got to meet were Steve Perry and Mark Farner of Grand Funk. I also got backstage passes at a Boston concert back in 1988. All this to say, I think meeting celebs is a tad overrated. Especially since they'll never remember you a couple hours after the event. And I would MUCH rather go to a 3 hour Rush concert than spend 3 hours waiting in line in a moldy book store, but you make some great points. I'm leaning towards going. Maybe whoever is in line after me will be kind enough to take a few snaps with the iphone. Thanks again! Clem I'll be at Monday's signing. Planning to get there 2 hours before start time. If you'd like to coordinate so that I can be behind you in line and take your photos, you can pm me. I'm not setting high expectations on the 'meeting Ged' part of it. He really doesn't have more than 15-30 seconds he can allot to each person and with Austin's signing being the last one of 4 straight days (in 4 different cities!), I imagine he'll be a little extra weary. I'm just looking at it as a chance to see him in person (the only way possible at this point), get a quick hello and fist bump, watch him personalize my book and then take it home as a souvenir. I wouldn't have travelled anywhere for such a brief moment or probably even bought the book otherwise, but since he's actually coming to me, I'm quite happy to support him. Well, I PLANNED on going, but it looks like the event is sold out. Not sure how many tickets were being sold, but sadly, if a sell-out, you'll definitely be limited with your time with him. I'm not terribly disappointed, but I guess I should have made up my mind quicker. I'm guessing you'll have plenty of time to chat with the person your in line with, and Rush fans are generally cool people, so I'm guessing they won't mind snapping some pics for you. Would love to know how the event goes! You'll have to give me a play-by-play Clem

  3. Thank you. This was VERY helpful! Something else came to mind: With many of these events being rushed (pun not intended; i swear), does Geddy at least personalize the signature? In other words, can he write something like: "To my #1 fan, Clem - Geddy Lee" -or- Does he just have enough time to scribble his name before you get pushed away? thanks again!
  4. HI all. Sorry if this is the wrong place on the board to ask. Did a search and couldn't find much. I have the opportunity to go to one of Geddy's book signings November 4 in Austin. I'm leaning towards "no" because $90 is a huge chunk of change even if it comes with a book. (I know, I know, the book is $60. Again - too pricey for my tastes). For those of you that have been, what were your overall thoughts? MOST IMPORTANTLY - I'm curious to know how many people show up? 50? 500? 5,000? Varies depending on location? I honestly have NO idea and I really don't want to go if it's mega crowded - especially if you're not even allowed to take a picture with the guy. thanks in advance! Clem
  5. Any lovers of the Yes album 'Talk' that came out around 1994? The thing flopped, and I thought it was one of the best things Yes ever did (even from the Howe days). I don't even think it's in print anywhere. Looking forward to new ARW music. When I saw them in concert, I was surprised how much they gelled. Great show. Clem
  6. So, excuse my ignorance, but how, exactly, does one "fill in a receding hairline"?? Clem
  7. Always loved Presto - even though it sounds a bit tinny in retrospect. I didn't mind that much back in 1989. This was before grunge, remember. Roll the Bones sounds very similar to Presto, but they took too many chances that didn't work. For me anyway. Never cared for the rap in the title song, I always thought Ghost of a Chance changed tempos too quickly, Heresy sounds like a CNN commercial, and the "Anarchist, Reactionary......" bit from You Bet Your Life sounds like a commercial for sugarless charm. Clem
  8. I'm the one that didn't like it. Hopefully I'm in the minority. I'm listening via Apple Music. The verses just don't sound right to me. It sounds like Alex is playing on an acoustic, and Geddy's voice just sounds too rough (as it has for the past few live albums) for me. Overall it sounds too sparse. I'm glad you enjoy. Hopefully most others will as well.
  9. "The Camera Eye" sounds awful. Especially on the verses where you only hear Geddy yodel and Alex's acoustic. I'm listening the CD streaming on Apple music.
  10. The vocal yodelling is atrocious and drums are somewhat muffled but apart from than that. "The things I've always hedonised aherdapromithatsomehowyarred... Yeah, the yodelling is a given at this point. I can't really tell on the drums since I'm playing it on one of those "portable" docks. If that's the case, I'm definitely going to be a bit disappointed. That was the main problem on CA live, in my judgement. Clem
  11. The CD is already on Apple music. Just got to the office and am cranking it. "The Anarchist" is currently playing. Sounds awesome! My "stereo" at my office leaves a bit to be desired - so am looking forward to listening at home on a proper sound system.
  12. The first few you mention were definitely already around in 1996. In fact, it was the spawn of these that caused him to write (rather negatively) on the topic. I was chatting with Rush fans way back in 1992 on Prodigy and AOL. Clem
  13. My second favorite of all time. Many don't like the production - find the music to be a bit "loud". It's nothing like Hemispheres. Clem
  14. I felt the same way until I heard him. He sounds like Anderson. Of course I cannot like Yes anymore with a new singer. BTW. Whats the story on Anderson? Why did he leave the band? Supposedly he left for awhile because he was ill, yet when he became healthy again, he "wasn't invited back in". This was right before the "Fly From Here" album. I thought that record was great even without Anderson. Then, their next album "We Have Heaven" was a major disappointment. That was their last studio album, and I hope their last ever now that Chris Squire is gone. Clem
  15. ditto. Don't like the title. Now if they were releasing a DVD of that particular TOUR.....now that would be sweet. Clem
  16. Wow! We're about the same age! (Class of 85). I agree with you. A lot of people during my high school years were unfamiliar with Rush simply because they were never played on the radio. They had a reputation as a "heavy" band. Usually the people that liked Rush were the same ones that liked groups such as Foghat, AC/DC, and Blue Oyster Cult. So they were definitely not "top 40" nor were they "punk/new wave". I never met anyone that actually hated them. Clem
  17. I like (no, make that 'love') the remixed one. I can now jam to "Secret Touch" without getting a headache. I would agree, though, that some songs lost a bit of their "anger", but overall I'm much happier with the remix. Clem
  18. I always thought Hemispheres was overrated. I simply don't like the "epic" song that much. And since that's 1/4 of the album (song wise) or 1/2 of the album (time wise) it definitely brings it down a notch for me. You are right about La Villa, however. Killer track. Clem

    How It Is

I like the song, and am glad I got to see it live. During Rush's later years, I got much more excited hearing songs that had never been played before, or songs that hadn't been played in decades, as opposed to fan favorites that we've heard so many times. In other words, on their latest tour, I would have rather heard "Cut to the Chase" as opposed to "Animate" "The Big Wheel" as opposed to "Roll the Bones" "Kid Gloves" as opposed to "Between the Wheels" etc. etc. etc. I'm not really complaining, though, it was a great show. Clem
  20. I voted "yes", but I only enjoyed the first half of the show. The second half was pretty stupid. Who wants to hear a bunch of old crap that's been around for 35 years???? sheesh! o.k. o.k. I'm obviously kidding. I just wanted to tick off some of the obdurate members of this forum who don't like anything post 1978. Seriously, I still vote "yes", because this tour showed me that Rush really do listen to their fans. I'm not really a huge fan of "Losing It", but obviously many people are. Had people not voiced their opinion on the different online communities, I'm not sure they would have ever included this song in some of the shows. Now, if only they would have played "Bastille Day" instead of "Lakeside Park"...... Clem
  21. Wow. Completely forgot all about that movie. You now have made me remember it. I will now forever curse you. ;) Clem
  22. That would be SNA. Although I'm quite fond of SNA, this one made me pee myself. Thanks for the laugh. Clem
  23. Contemporary Christian music focuses more on lyrics, and less on melody. The only Contemporary Christian artist that I really like is a fella from Texas named David Crowder. He puts on one hell of a......a mean "heck" of a show. No, he doesn't rival Rush (who does??) but I really dig the guy. Now, if you're unfamiliar with him, note that I never said he "sounds like Rush". He doesn't even come close. I still like him, though. Glad this thread has been non-argumentative for awhile. Clem
  24. https://www.humblebundle.com/books just fyi. something to talk about now that the tour is over. Clem
  25. I felt a little like this as well back in 80s. I don't think I was ready for Rush to embrace new music styles and evolve. I would have been happy with an album full of "Xanadus" and "The Spirit of Radios". As time has gone on, however, I've come to appreciate most of their 80s work, including this song, and the album it came from. Clem
