  1. From the website-Are these the bogus dates you are referring to?? City Los Angeles, CA Date: Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 Venue: Gibson Amphitheatre
  2. Farewell to Kings, Different Stages. I am with those that don't like live albums but Stages, to me, is the "classic" live album like "Live at Leeds" is considered for The Who. Just seems to flow correctly and sounds right in every technical aspect as compared to the other live works. Of course, we have technology to thank for that one. In the days of vinyl only, a live album encompassing all that material would have been a four or five album set, no one would have bought it let alone the company releasing it.
  3. There are probably many factors influencing the "non-sold-out" shows but Michigan and Nevada have two of the highest unemployment rates(forget the official figures, knowing people who live in those states and Ohio, I hear the "real" unemployed levels are about 14-16% there), so I guess that is part of the explanation for those cities being less than capacity.
  4. Have to agree, I recall I was losing my interest in the band with Hold Your fire and then thinking they were done after Neil's tragedies. It is amazing to think they are still at the top of their game.
  5. Many good choices-Grohl and Hawkins, KISS, or Rudd-Siegel. Is Billy Corgan still relevant? Just wondering. But I say they should really have some fun with it; say Randall Roberts, the music critic for the LA Times or fellow Canadian rockers...Celine Dion and Shania Twain. Now that would be fun!!
  6. I keep 5 RUSH CD's in my car-Caress of Steel, 2112, Hemispheres, Different Stages, Retro 3(hey, got it for $1). For shorter jaunts-DS and R3 can be pulled out. The other three are reserved for 30 minute-plus drives. Doesn't seem right listening to those on the local trip to the market. Reminds me of the film "liberty Heights," which takes place in the 50's. There is a scene where a kid is being driven somewhere and arrives at his destination. Even though he should get out, Frank Sinatra is on the radio. He won't get out of the car until the song is over saying something like "you just can't walk out on Sinatra." Sort of the same thing for the other three albums. ;)
  7. The theater seats like 7,100 people. Maybe someone from the Cleveland awards can tell us what percentage of seats actually went to the general public. I bet anywhere from 4,500-5,000 of the best seats are spoken for already and the public won't be able to get anything up close. Anyone have an insight how it works for the "working man?" By the way, the Hall of Fame site makes it look like you have to become the $5,000 member to actually get a chance to buy tickets before anyone else.
  8. I guess it is okay for the guy not to like Rush. I mean the "original" LA Times rock critic Robert HIlburn used to rip Barry Manilow so much, he got death threats. But I am not sure I like his point in an earlier column ripping Rush that rock would be exactly where it was today if they were never around. But wouldn't that be true if Springsteen or Aerosmith never came to be as well? Springsteen was a continuation of Dylan in many ways and Aerosmith was simply an American Rolling Stones. So to me, if those two never came to be, would music be any more different? I mean, if Buddy Holly never came to be that would be one thing, but can't we dismiss others that are loved by critics as well?
  9. As RUSH hater, LA Times critic Randall Roberts, said.the voting is a mess because the fans chose RUSH, not "real" people like critics. He once again got in a dig by saying Lee's voice alone should have been enough to disqualify them. So true, Rush may have gotten in because of fans and not some group of 5 guys in a back room. But isn't that what all these awards are about-a way to let fans have a connection to the bands they love? For critics to dismiss that side of it and try to make this RRHOF nonsense serious(nothing against the Supremes but they are in the hall and never wrote a song), is an insult to fans.
  10. Talk about timing-Tuesday evening I got to see "The Hobbit" and all the references to Rivendell and The Necromancer for about 2 3/4 hours. Then, voila, the next news I hear is Rush is in the RRHOF. Of course, never having read the Tolkien books, I said "hey, was the author listening to RUSH as he wrote this???" ;)
  11. Agree it is the highlight of the RTB album. I was so happy they included it at the Los Angeles show. I've seen them 5 times since that album was released and, if my aging memory serves me correctly, I think it was the first time I got to see it live.
  12. Wouldn't miss the "reggae" version Working man, do miss the "real" version. Would miss 2112, wouldn't miss Red Sector A(though maybe not quite a "staple" per se). The song is okay but, for me, on this tour, if the intent is to re-build the energy with the old stuff shortly after the new stuff, a downer song about a concentration camp survivor doesn't make for a great fit. Early in the show seems better. IMHO.
  13. Audrey looks like the girl you'd have to take to a fancy dinner in a luxury car and court for a few dates. On the other hand, Adele looks like the girl you could impress with a Harley and burgers and beer. And she'd make up her mind in the first 5 minutes of the date if she wanted to do you. But I'm a romantic so gotta go with Audrey.
  14. Can't say the same for the Los Angeles show. As the old joke goes, you know you're at a Rush show when there is a line to the men's room but the women's room is so quiet, you can hear the cockroaches taking a piss.
  15. Sort of funny to me when I see the comments saying one show may have been better than another and so on. I've seen them seven times and can't recall a time they haven't delivered a "10" show. Maybe I am biased since to me Rush is like my wife, they can do no wrong!(or at least, that's what I tell her). :sarcastic:
  16. Agree, jaminbenb. I saw both legs of the TM tour and can't recall them changing things up whereas I believel they changed about 3 or 4(??) songs for the second leg of the S&A tour. I figure that when it comes to 2nd legs of tours, especially when the band is touring to promote a new album whereas TM wasn't that kind of tour, a group should realize they've probably sold whatever number of copies of the new album they will sell by the 2nd appearance. Dropping a few of the CA tunes makes sense but with the string section attached for this tour, either they'll have to stay the course or take an extra break to re-work the violins for the new, or should I say old, tunes.
  17. After this current tour's setlist, the name for the next tour will be The No Power tour - zero tracks from Power Windows.
  18. Some of you may recall Los Angeles Times critic Randall Roberts writing a column that Rush does not deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had never seen Rush live and here is his review of Monday's concert in Los Angeles.. http://www.latimes.c...,0,423523.story
  19. Agree 100%. It seemed like Geddy's lyrics were actually in sync with the shots of him on the big screens. I remember Time Machine tour where things sounded muffled and his lip movement was out of sync with the screens. A delay on the video perhaps but overall, much better sound this time out(though the ringing in my ears made it tough to sleep Mon. night). As far as those leaving during the encore, I wonder if that is the effect of the setlist being known weeks before a show. "Back in the day," you might not know exactly what the last tune was and want to stick around. Now, you know exactly when things are wrapping up.
  20. Agree with your point MFFord8. I wish I knew why the band has latched on to this venue. They just don't seem to be a fit for a "cozy" atmosphere. Of course, prior to the TM tour, the previous four times I'd seen them were all outdoors and their sound and visual show are tailor made for the night air. This venue is great for me from a proximity/geographic standpoint but outside of that, I could take or leave the Gibson-Rush combination.
  21. I have always thought the sound at the Honda Center has sucked. For two shows I've been there for(not Rush) it was simply terrible to the point people complained and, in one case, said they were going to go down and tell the sound engineer on the floor!I think the place was built more as a sports arena with the sight lines taking precedence over acoustics. I wonder if the engineers "tweaked" with it during the break??
  22. Nice review. Is the "Rush-virgin" from Australia here on this thread? Would like to hear his take on the show as well, unless you all can point me to another thread where he has already chimed in.
  23. I'll be there in the loge, section 18, row K. I will be breaking the t-shirt rule by wearing a black one from the R30 tour. Too bad you couldn't get to the box office(it is closed today). I didn't get a ticket until Friday night and think several loge seats were still available. But personally, $164 bucks($158 face value plus a totally it-should-be-illegal $6 convenience fee(I wish they changed the wording, convenience for who exactly?) for those seats is not worth it for anyone but Rush. IMHO.
  24. You people obviously haven't had to drop off your kids at high school or work in a building like I do(my building is home to some rock radio stations and record companies). That concert attire sounds pretty formal compared to what I leer at, er, uhm, I mean accidentally and innocently look at, every day!
  25. Yes, I saw them twice during the S&A tour and twice during TM tour but there was about a year gap between the tour legs. So I have never seen them so close together. Not sure I could do it but overall, if you've got the time and the $$, go for it.
