You are so ignorant. Depression is complex, different from person to person. It is an illness. I am a very happy person suffering from very painful mental problems. Do I have reasons to be as ill as I am? Yes and no. As for his success, I was about four when I first saw Aladdin. Hooked me onto his sense of humour. I grew up loving his style, his gentle warmth, and zany humour. In real life, I too am known for a zany, upbeat and partycentric lifestyle. But behind closed doors, I am a mess, and my nearest and dearest know it only too well. I can easily imagine Robin Williams being the same. A man just died. How dare anyone roll their eyes. And you are also ignorant of other peoples tastes. You speak as an elitist, when the fact his films are adored by many makes it clear enough that people love him, and yet you insist you are absolutely right and the rest of us are brainwashed. Shut up, I don't care how rude I sound, but these comments anger me so much!7 points

It's been a long time since I've been on here, and wanted to take this opportunity to apologize to someone on here. I figured I could create a thread for people to apologize "anonymously", to just get it out of their system without involving others, or perhaps say sorry for all to see. Use this thread as you see fit. So, I'll start. To the person I used to talk to frequently (you know who you are), I'm sorry. My behavior was totally inappropriate and out of line. It's been hanging over my head for some time, and wanted to let you know that I realize I was wrong.5 points

You picked what Geddy calls the band's signature songs from the 90s and 00s, in addition to a great epic from the halcyon days. You're beginning to make Nic Cage look sane.5 points

Good man, It takes a lot of responsibility to own pet. You made a wise choice. You have to really want one and be prepared to take care of it. The time, money involved. Same with children. It changes your whole life and you have to be committed to what you have decided to do.4 points

Got that right. We can't even be sure about those closest to us much less a man we've never met, and only know by his performances. We may know a tiny bit about him via his interviews, but it's not nearly enough to paint a full picture. Life is complicated. People are even more complicated. This we do know for sure.4 points

I seriously prefer just to be honest and have a few laughs along the way regarding the band, songs, social threads, politics etc. It seems to have worked so far so I think I will continue to go with it.... :)4 points

I’ve also had personal experience with depression, and I can tell you there’s nothing worse. I think its cruelest symptom is the death of all hope. You felt terrible during every moment of today, as you did yesterday and the day before, and you know you’re going to continue to feel this way tomorrow and for the foreseeable future. You see no end to your suffering, no hope that your emotional pain will EVER go away. There are many times you feel you cannot tolerate another SECOND of it, yet you know you have hours, weeks, and months of this feeling ahead, perhaps even a LIFETIME of it. If you can’t understand why someone would commit suicide in that state, then I failed to explain it. Too many times our society uses “depressed” and “sad” interchangeably, and they are so NOT the same thing. As a result of this mix-up of terms, “depressed” has become an insufficient word to describe the severity and totality of this awful emotional state. Fools think sufferers can just “snap out of it.” They can’t, and it doesn’t matter how much money, fame, or love the person has. A personal anecdote: several times I tried renting a movie to “make myself feel better,” but this was a futile task. Things which were dark and sad made my feelings worse, naturally, but so did so-called “happy” things. No comedic movie or time spent with loved ones cheered me; they were just reminders that I SHOULD be happy but I wasn’t… and that’s depressing, so right back to the “no hope for the future” feeling. Besides, “happiness” is an illusion and the “happy people” around you are just delusional, see? You actually believe this unrelentingly dark outlook you have is the world as it REALLY is, and anyone who sees it differently is just kidding themselves. The first step towards recovery is believing that recovery is possible: there IS hope, and you won’t always feel like you did this month or this year. It can be so hard to see any hope, though.4 points

Yeah good point. If it were only up to him, I'm sure they would already be retired Oh, I doubt that. People like to give him crap for being introverted towards his fans and touring but there's this: It was ultimately his decision that Vapor Trails-present exists. He could've decided to never come back after Test For Echo and the dark days in the late 90's. Then if you go to Clockwork Angels he wrote a full-fledged story and delivered some of the best drum work he's ever done. He went all out on that album. That doesn't sound like a man who's wanted to retire for many years.3 points

Wow! That must be a record for the douchiest number of times someone referred to Rush as "boys" in the least number of sentences on this forum! http://speedforce.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/pf_award_new.jpg I checked actually. It's only the third douchiest. :) The first "boys" was directed at the people arguing and getting upset.3 points

if someone is offended by all the shots that some of us take on some of the songs or albums of our favorite bands, it's their problems. It's all funny even if it's a way of express our frustration to see our band being simply "average" at times and not to be the best we think they can be all the time. Myself i have problems with some songs from their later material because i know they can do better or because i have a nostalgia of the best moments i had listening to their music in the 70's and 80's. We all only humans after all and for a limited time... So it's not by lack of respect that we're taking shots at the band by using inappropriate words, it's just to provoke some reactions around this forum. Wouldn't be boring if everyone was enjoying at the same level all the songs the band has ever made.3 points

I'd like for them to use the talents of the YBG staff to do so A lot of happy people making people smile I would love to do that. I think I would have made a good comedy skit writer. Glad I'm not the only one here who's had the crazy fantasy of writing at least one of those skits. Let me guess, you watched a skit, listened to the dialogue, and thought, "Oh come on, This is just random stoner stuff with no meaning. Even I can do better than that, and I'm sitting in the audience next to a loud guy with his belly sticking out of his F**K YOU ANDYOUR HONOR STUDENT T-shirt!"3 points

I was never gung ho about having kids, like it was a definite plan for me but I grew up in a big family so I never ruled it out. My wife wanted kids and still wants more. We have three. A 19 year old, 15 year old and a 5 year old. They are my absolute everything and I didn't even know anything could be before them. I get no greater pleasure than watching them work hard, succeed, experience new things and just enjoy life. Kids are not for everyone and I respect people who realize that before having kids. I am beyond happy that I "fell into" having kids. I would have never pushed the issue, just did not reject her desire to have them. So glad I didn't.3 points

I never actually wanted to have children and I have no problem saying that. However, even though I was careful at the time (both birth control AND condoms), my son came to be. While regret is probably not the best word to describe the feelings I have about having him, I have since decided that I am not doing it again. I had my tubes tied about 2-3 years ago. Trust me, it's not just childless younger women (I was in my early 30's) who have a problem finding a doctor who will complete that procedure for them. It took me nearly 12 years to find one. I do feel like I missed out on what I really wanted to do with my life because I compromised and had a child early on. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel: I'll only be 39 when he graduates from high school. So, I will still be relatively young and have a lot of life ahead of me. I'm also single by choice because I really don't want to run the risk of having one of the same problems with another man that I had with my ex-husband. He was quite happy living in this area and I, quite frankly, hate it no end. I tried on several occasions to get him interested in moving and he was having nothing to do with that. The only reason I am staying now is so my son can finish high school with his best friends. Once that is done, I will be taking aggressive steps to leave his hell-hole. I know that there are some people who feel like their lives are fulfilled by having children. While my son is amazing and I love him no end, I don't feel that my purpose in life has been fulfilled simply by being responsible for the presence of another human being. Quite frankly, any idiot with sexual organs can get with another and make a child. It isn't rocket science. The scores of unwanted, abused and neglected children in the world are a testament to that fact. So, for me at least, I never understood how a simple act of natural science could make a person feel fulfilled in life. Maybe it's the raising them, but that always seemed too vicarious for my liking. It's a mystery to me for sure and I am certainly not saying that people who feel that way are inferior. I just never had that compulsion, and I have yet to come across another human being (my son included) that I would task with making me happy. That's MY responsibility. People comment to me all the time what a "good kid" my son is. He's achieved some pretty cool things and he is respectful and compassionate. Yes, I am proud of him, but his achievements don't fulfill me and my needs in life. Once a child gets past a certain point in life, their achievements are their own. And, Alex is way past that point. So, I guess what I am saying is that I have very mixed feelings about being a parent. On one hand I never wanted that for myself, and the aspirations that I had in life were pretty much destroyed when I had my son (without getting into a lot of detail, the career path I was trying to start was not the best environment to raise a child due to extensive travel leading to a "gypsy" type lifestyle). But, I do adore him and I am privileged to know him. He makes me proud, but not fulfilled. I'm not sure if I would do things differently if given the opportunity for a re-do. Probably not, but there has been an empty spot that I have tried to fill to no avail. I've just had this nagging feeling for the past 14-15 years that I really missed out on the life I wanted for myself because of that one choice I made to keep my son.3 points

^ Nazi zombie movies are one of the more enjoyable things to come out of the whole zombie craze. Kind of brought the satisfaction back to blowing the heads off zombies. If someone could make a Bolshevik zombies vs Nazi zombies movie, that would be really fun. Throw in a Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus zombie ... cinematic history is made. Back on topic, Rush could make me happy by bringing back the Neil mustache and the long hair all around, donning the kimonos, wielding the double necks and chimes, and making a Terry Brown-produced epic prog anthem worthy of the Elder Days of Rush. Is this so much to ask? edit: an anthemic prog epic would also be acceptable3 points

The Test For Echo votes hurt :( I can understand the dislike for the album if you really care THAT MUCH about the lyrics, but you can't deny that rock brilliance on the title track. I hate Dog Years like everyone else but it's those vocals that make me hate it so3 points

I can't imagine life without my children. Having said that, they are now 27 and 24 and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they never have any. Its fine with me whichever way it goes. I am just happy they haven't made any "mistakes" like others in my extended family have. Children having children..... :|3 points
