  1. The best way to get one is to follow Neil to his hotel and leave a 6 pack of beer outside his door in a paper bag around 6:30am, knocking loudly before running off.

  3. It would only be "selling out" if Ged was doing it for money. I doubt what they're paying him really figured into the decision. I remember when many Rush fans used to bitch when the band didn't get any recognition. Now that they're acknowledged for having some cultural significance, it's a bad thing? I think it's fine. Let the Boys have some fun.

  17. Not Metal. But she got the hard rock edge from her husband. I remember reading an interview where he talked about the Eddie influence. He definitkey had some 70s hard rock / metal going through him. The solo at the end of Heartbreaker is great..starting st 2:40... http://youtu.be/vy-QmgdUVTI

  18. Thanks, GM (as always) - great photos. :ebert: I love the bottom photo. Look at the strings. He's playing the *hell* out of that A string! His right hand and that A string are seriously blurred in the photo. Phenomenal. :geddy:

  20. Yeah she is. I discovered her in the 80s with the "Invincible" song. That and Heart's "Never" were my favourite songs for many months. "Long Suits Metal"!!!! :laughing guy: :laughing guy: :laughing guy: Heart had better hair, though.

  21. Classically trained vocally and her husband has laid down some incredible riffs. His early solos are melodic metal! Pat's first two albums are Metal! Then it all went downhill from there!

  22. I was a big Pat Benatar fan before discovering Rush and I have her first four albums. Lyrically, Pat was good at being the jilted girl.

  26. Is she mental? No, just kind of crazy... Oh, "metal." Sorry, my mistake... No, not metal. But, the more important issue is whether or not she has the nicest chick bum in rock... I say, "HELL YES!" Even now, at age, 50 something...

  27. Her first 3 albums, "In the Heat of the Night", "Crimes of Passion", and "Precious Time" definitely have hard edge to them. Her fourth album "Get Nervous" added synthesizers (and someone to play them). After that, her music had less of an edge and more pop sounding.

  28. She's rock / pop. On the heavier edge of rock. Metal not so much. Some influence and sounds might come across in the music tho. Great artist. Love her.

  29. I forgot who it was but someone on some hard rock countdown on VH1 Classic was talking about how Heartbreaker was able to be such a huge hit on the charts in spite of it's heavy sound due to Pat Benatar's voice. I think it was Dee Snider who said it, IIRC. Metal or not, it rocks and Neil is such an underrated guitarist.

  32. Well that's a new one, the only one so far from the new album. So what you need to focus on is the previous album: http://midnightpunk.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/uncle-acid-and-the-deadbeats-blood-lust-cd.jpg

  34. Personally I think the entire production is better now but the lighting was probably more interesting back in the day. And I think there is a reason for that.. it has nothing to do with cost or anything like that... it has to do with technology. Back in the day, Howard had to literally PLAY the entire show with the band.. his fingers were moving just as fast as anybodys hitting buttons to trigger scenes or embelleshments. (plus he had to call out the spotlights). Today technology has changed all that. The lighting show is mostly preprogrammed. Yeah.. it looks great, but there isn't that spontaneity like there was back in the day. Sure, Howard still has to call out the spot cues and you've got a video director doing live calls for the rear screen... .but the show is mostly staged by technology these days. So it can feel a little 'cold'.

  36. Speaking of 'Where's My Thing'... I'd actually replaced the album version with a live version on my ipod, because it just kills live, especially with the atmospheric, ethereal opening. Such a fabulous song to have brought back! But now speaking of lighting: I do like good lighting at a show, and I would prefer it to other 'gimmicks' (or show 'enhancements', depending on your view) such as constantly having a huge rear screen display animation or tvs being suspended above the stage or speakers moving around or (*gasp*) pyrotechnics. I want to see and hear the band, and not get distracted by other things happening around the players. It's like when my BF and I go out to a restaurant, and while talking, his gaze gets pulled by tvs that are invariably creeping up everywhere these days. He's still paying attention to me, but not really. I'd rather, at a concert, watch Geddy do his jumping-around-like-Tigger bit than realize I'd missed his bouncy antics by watching a cartoon on the big screen instead. Lighting effects? Yes, bring 'em on. They do a good job enhancing the action on the stage that is meant to be watched, instead of competing with the band for the audience's eyes. And quite frankly, I'd rather cut the pyros and use that money towards lighting; sure, fiery explosions are a surprising little thrill, but in my opinion they are a bit too jolting when I'm into a song. Unfortunately, my earliest show is 2007 (oh, the regret of having not seen anything sooner!), so I have nothing personally to compare modern Rush shows to. I must add, though, that Rush shows are fantastic, and I'm certainly not going to gripe about anything. I'll take what they give me! :)

  42. Why do Rush fans shit on Rush when Rush gets more exposure? Don't they deserve the success? Don't you want to share your band? Alex was in a Canadian vampire move. Geddy is on a very popular American sitcom.
