As far as I know, all their songs are instrumentals.

cool. I like the songs. Just curious as to what their vocals, if any, sounded like.

noise, depression

a sense of uneasiness and foreboding

tension

darkness, melancholy, frustration

...you know, a regular good time party album!

Every emotion that is possible.

The crescendo of Sleep, and the outro is mesmerizing. Seriously powerful music.

I my day this was called Alternative, and we liked it that way! We didn't need 87 different genre labels to describe bands that were 99% similar to each other!

I prefer alternative as well.

I have a question too.

When did this "genre" nonsense start? I find it very confusing.

What was the wrong with the old terminology?

Is "genre" supposed to sound more sophisticated? Intelligent?

And I still can't figure out, despite it being explained to me several times on here, what "progressive rock" is.

Is she really going out with him? Is she really going bring him home tonight?

This one is pretty simple. Progressive rock generally includes elements of classical music (instruments, arrangements), unusual time signatures (Other than 4/4), plus the usual guitar bass and drums played heavier in a rock fashion.

Yes, that's what I've been told.

But I never knew what a "time signature" was until I came here.

Isn't "progressive rock" then more of a musician's terminology rather than your typical music fan?

No, it's a general use term.

All I know is that most of the music I like has been classified as progressive rock even though to me it sounds very varied.

That's one of the defining characteristics about it, it sounds different than your general run-of-the-mill rock music.

Today I bought Slowedives debut album.

My thoughts? Absolutely gorgeous, puts me in mind of bands like The Cure, Mineral and Khoma minus the hard rock edge. 10/10 and I am excited to hear the rest! I ADORE this sort of music, but I have never really labeled it as anything.

Shoegaze is almost certainly my cup of tea. Now for more of it!
