Earthshine
Well, I have seen them both quite a few times. I was listening to King's X and just wondering how Dream Theater felt trying to follow their act. Could not have been easy. King's X left the crowd stomping for more. But Dream Theater had to come out and play their set before Joe Satriani closed the show. I think even Satriani had to pull out all the stops to try to not be upstaged by King's X. Not that they were trying to, it is just they were that good!
RUSHHEAD666
I do love to pick on DT a lot being a Rushhead, but ironically here I must choose DT. I love King's X too, but from an "Images And Words" standpoint I spend more time seeing, listening and ever reading about DT. Portnoy is still a fuckking prick though! Xanadoood
Kings x has more soul and are far better songwriters. Ty Tabor is much less mechanical than Petrucci, and his tone is legendary. And the vocals are not even comparable between the two. DT is just way to robotic for me. Kings x is one of my favorite bands. No comparison IMO. Dream Theater are a bunch of Musical Wizard Tech Snobs who come across quite soulless when they play. I am sure Ty and Co. didn't learn how to play their instruments in some stuck up music school in NYC. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Presto-digitation
King's X, although I'm not really a fan of either one. Still I like and enjoy both Faith Love Hope (or however the order) and Images And Words quite a bit.

Well that's a shame because there both as good as it gets. No, Rush is as good as it gets. These guys are boring and uninteresting wankfests. I've heard the term "uninteresting wankfest" applied to DT a bunch of times, but never Kings X. Maybe you haven't heard much from them? If not, don't let the fact that they're being pitted against DT in this poll fool you -- these two bands are apples and oranges and really shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath (or poll). King X are most definitely not wankers. They're a ballsy and soulful rock band with some occasional and subtle prog tendencies. I saw them in NYC last fall when they opened for Porcupine Tree, and they got that crowd really fired up. It was a crime seeing them open for ANYBODY. RUSHHEAD666
King's X is not a wankfest at all. They are totally awesome and they have a cool spiritual vibe to their progressive canon. Dare I use the word "underrated" when mentioning King's X? My buddy who plays rhythm guitar in Y&T absolutely loves this band. Next to The Who, they are his most favorite band in the world. I think that speaks volumes, especially since he is also a guitarist in a killer rock band. Everyone has to have a little "Faith, Hope, Love" in their lives. What a great tune! I haven't seen that video in years! Love it! I also love Ty's guitar sound. Very distinct. Does anyone have the Japanese version of their last album "XV?" It has three bonus tracks on it: "Love And Rockets Hell's Screaming" "No Lie" "Rocket Ship" Demo This three piece rules. Now I wish I could take my vote back from Dream Theater. 3 guys VS 5 soulless guys. LOL! There should be a thread like "RUSH VS. KING'S X" Two powerhouse trios going at it. I bet there would be some votes for King's X on this Rush Forum.
