Fun fact about this musical: KOKGNAB's name is a RUSH reference.

Can anyone here guess the RUSH reference?

Hi, oghond2112, and welcome!
I hope you're enjoying yourself on here. I joined up last year and it's been a lot of fun.

Re: kokgnaB: I'd be careful using a name like that, especially if it has to be said aloud. Just sayin'!
Nice job on completing the musical, as well as the time spent on your outline, btw. That's a lot of work!
My only suggestion is that your villains might be better served with another name. (Force 10? I mean Netecrof :) )
Good luck with the musical!
cheers;

Yep! It's a reference to "A Passage to Bangkok." KOKGNAB is BANGKOK spelled backwards.

As for that name being said aloud... there's actually a gag about that in the show. KOKGNAB refers to himself in the third person (because "Tom Sawyer," his solo number, uses mainly third-person pronouns), and some of the characters mockingly mispronounce his name as "kock-nab."

It's actually "COKE-nab," with a long "o" and stress on the first syllable. I actually had it pronounced that way PURPOSEFULLY for that reason, in case anyone would make his name the butt of jokes.

Thank you for your support! :) But just an FYI: the script isn't complete yet. I've only started writing Act Two, and I'm now at the second number in Act Two, "Subdivisions." Act One, however, IS complete.

And now, info regarding the Motor Law (full name: The Holy American Motor Law and Constitution of Obedience, Religion, Leisure, and Transportation) as seen in Freewill in 2112 (its shortened name is an obvious reference to "Red Barchetta"). And let me tell you, it is CRAZY.

Under the Motor Law:
- All transportation, including cars, boats, planes, horse and buggy, etc. is forbidden except by the use of walking- not to mention that all cars from the past are forbidden to be kept
- Trade with other countries or visiting other countries is forbidden
- Traveling to other states is forbidden- citizens must stay within their own boundaries
- Citizens of America in 2112 must obey ALL authority and not question anyone's beliefs
- Citizens of America in 2112 must work (or go to school) from 9-to-5 and pray to the gods for the rest of the day, then go to bed at 8:00 sharp
- All digital technology, such as the radio, television, cell phones, robots and drones are forbidden
- All playing of music and listening to music is forbidden unless it is a sung work song
- All steel-based buildings or industrial feats (such as steel bridges and highways) are forbidden
- Citizens of America in 2112 MUST follow the religion of Christian Buddhism (AKA Chruddism) unless another authority claims to be more powerful. If they choose to not follow Chruddism, they will be sentenced to death via hanging and will be sent to the Darkest Reaches by the gods, where they will forever burn

Hello!

I am merely a stranger to you on here and many people on here hate me for being open and containing no filter.  I am educated.  Most think I'm on drugs.  LOL!   I have an English degree from St. Mary's College.  I run a successful business with my father.  I am a drummer of 36 years.  I've been around but I will be open and honest with you even "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend."  Trust me Froind.  There are a lot of wonderful people on here, but there are also trolls and haters.  You seem like a very cool human being.  I think it's awesome that you are a female too.  I was always bored reading Shakespeare in school so thanks to being a Rushhead i always found myself reading Ayn Rand instead.  Amazing that I graduated.  LOL!

Anyway I think it's incredible that you would post your intellectual and creative idea and spirt on here on a public forum.
I swiftly read through your idea and plot and I instantly thought of the the classic film "Metropolis" Meets Rush.
Alas, I think you have an excellent idea.
I can tell it's in it's genesis stage.  I too write.  I have an amazing screenplay written.  But here is my advice to you.
Don't share all of your ideas and concepts on a public forum.

Someone may steal your idea.

BE CAREFUL!

I am simply sending you a friendly warning.

I have been the joker on this forum for 11 years but I do have a serious side.

Be careful who you share your ideas with.

I think you have something here that will be excellent.  But please!  Protect yourself.  Not sure how old you are, not sure if you know copyrights ant trademark laws.

But please, listen to me.  If you are very serious about this amazing project, get it protected pronto.

I love the way you type in code.  I get it.  I do the same thing in my creative writing.

Just be careful.

We all have "Freewill" and that can be a problem within our own reality.

Humans have the "Freewill" to steal an idea and profit from it.

"Welcome To The Machine!"  I mean The Rush Forum!

Good luck with your writing.

You are on the right path!

RUSH ON!

Earl

Thank you!!!

Just so you know, I'm still in high school. The script has been in development for two years now. But I do understand about the whole copyright thing. With that said:

Freewill in 2112 ©2016. By oghond2112. I OWN THE BOOK. ALL RUSH SONGS USED ARE BY GEDDY LEE, ALEX LIFESON, AND NEIL PEART. DO NOT STEAL.

(Yeah, as you may have guessed, I don't exactly know copyright laws...)

Also, what do you mean by "type in code"? Are you referring to B-CYGNUS-68?

Yes my young friend.  I was referring to your B-CYGNUS-68

I find this very strange as I was born in 1968.

Ever since 1986 I have have had a RUSH license plate on my car.  My first one was YRRUSHZ.
6 plates later my newest is N PEART.
Yep, I'm that insane California Rush Freak!
I get you man.
I love that you are young and have passion to write.
I remember when I was in high school.
I didn't care about girls.  I went to RUSH, VAN HALEN, RATT, MOTELY CRUE,  and played my drums.  Hung out with my older friends.  Wrote a lot of poetry and I wrote a bunch of lyrics to emulate Neil.  I was a total dork.  Still am.  Don't care.
I wish you the best of luck but be careful man.
Hey even a dork like me scored a hot blonde chick.  Hot chicks love intellectual ok looking nerds!
Was married for 19 years.  Have two amazing daughters.
To quote DOKKEN, I am "Alone Again" but I love it.

I wish you the best in success and love.

I'm rambling.  I annoy many on here.

Just keep writing and creating.

Live for YOU!

Everything else will fall into place.

I know a stranger might not be a long awaited friend, but trust me!

I've been around.

And at the end of the day I have have a wonderful life.

I wish that for you and all of my friends on here.

Life is short.

RUSH ON!!!

Earl

I need to audition for this. Hello I’m community theater actor John Rogers. You may remember me from such musicals as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Annie, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, 1776, The Music Man and[b] Planet of the Apes: the musical.[/img]

On that last one- serious?

I know all of the others, but I never knew that Apes had ever been made into a musical.

Ah you got me! The last one was a wink and nod to actor Troy McClure. I did have roles in the other plays I mentioned.

By the way, do you think I should put up each scene from the script in order on here? Act One is completed, but it's almost 2 HOURS LONG when read aloud...

I am very impressed and very interested in reading your script however I would strongly advise you NOT to do so!!

Public Forums are a dangerous place to put something so intellectual and fresh from one's mind.

It's up to you.

However...

Sadly, I never edited the first scene on my DA to have it fit the new plot of Barchy being an android after I put it up, so that monologue from Barchy at the beginning is outdated.

It's been a few days, and I would like to share a story.

The story of the reason I wrote FREEWILL IN 2112.

FREEWILL IN 2112 was not meant to infringe on RUSH's copyright. Nor was it intended to glorify slavery, nor was it intended to make fun of the incredible Holy Triumvate.

It's a tribute to an incredible career full of powerful songs with equally powerful themes.

In light of the recent Geddy Lee interview, it seems like everyone is convinced that RUSH is done. Here's the thing.

I believe Geddy when he says that someday he will perform music live again, but I honestly cannot believe how long this band has lasted. 40 years have passed, and RUSH has had multiple platinum albums, tons of concerts, and the most loyal fanbase in the world. I heard RUSH could be reaching the end of the road two years ago, and I was devastated. Everyone was thanking RUSH for 40 long years and putting things up on Twitter, but I wanted to do something extra special. Something that would sum up the themes, music and albums of RUSH. It would be the ultimate tribute to an incredible band. At that time I was looking at jukebox musicals, and found it incredible that no one had made a RUSH musical yet and put it on Broadway.

So, one year ago in 2016, I started writing Freewill in 2112.

Now, one year later, I am approaching the fourth scene of Act Two, and I cannot believe how far I have come. My greatest hope is that one day, I can get my musical protected and get it to be much more than just a script idea.

FREEWILL IN 2112 is a tribute to RUSH. It has been, and it always will be. I cannot thank you enough for your incredible support, and I hope that one day, the members themselves will get the chance to see it.

I hope this tribute makes them proud.

Thank you, RUSH. Thank you for 40 years. :)

With that said, if RUSH ever got the chance to read the musical, and were told beforehand that this is a tribute, what do you think their reaction would be?

This is an awesome idea, my husband and I are thinking along the same lines for creating a screenplay for our concept album. If you work consistently I am sure that the screenplay develop naturally and details will unveil themselves. It helps to separate your scenes and write dialog for your characters in a storyboard fashion. I am sure that you will complete your project and in today's technologically advanced world, it will come to fruition far sooner than you expect. Just make sure to copyright your script when it is complete. Good luck and happy creating!!
