Tired of being an adult

Today I cried to my mom over the phone for 4 hours because I'm sick of being an adult. The past two weeks have been absolutely hectic and nightmarish--I moved 4 times, lost a load of money, haven't gotten any proper sleep and came down with a massive cold. That's not even the half of it. I just moved into a new place today (hopefully for the last time) and it doesn't have any furniture; I'll have to buy and assemble everything tomorrow. My landlord also wants the rent by tomorrow. School starts in 2 days and I'm a worn-out, disheveled mess. This is too much adulting for me. Does anyone else just want to go back to being 7 years old again? fists%20crying.gif

Oh you're only 19, I felt the same way when I was your age, You'll be alright once you get used to everything.

Thank you so much everyone for the kind wishes and for taking the time to share your experiences and advice. Reading them truly made my day and put things into perspective. I'm honestly feeling so much better now! I went to Ikea yesterday and with the help of a friend bought all the furniture I need for my room and assembled them in one night. It was insane, but the toughest part is finally over with and I'm pretty much settled in. My cold was also magically cured this morning after 12 hours of solid sleep  Everything's coming along swimmingly. I did nothing but lay in bed and play music today--been deprived for so long that being able to take the time out to properly listen to it again made me want to cry, lol.

Thanks again everyone for being so supportive. You're a wonderful bunch :hug2:

Yeah, its just another thing to make you get stronger along the way. Its not going to be all bread and circuses, its not going to be all good times. Being an adult is hard work. But I'd rather be an adult than suffer the alternatives. Also, just because you're all growed up now with responsibles, it doesn't mean you have to stop being a kid.

Lemony Cake eat cake!

I inhaled 2 pieces of cake at Ikea yesterday after shopping for furniture. It's the cure for everything!

I feel you! I'm so scared of entering adulthood. People keep telling me that I have plenty of time on my hands yet at the same time I feel like I need to get my shit together in a limited amount of time. All these existential crises suck too ugh.

The "plenty of time" bit is a falsehood. Nobody knows how much time anyone has. Soooo, it means the only important thing is happiness. Finding what makes you happy and actually making it happen are the challenging parts. Finding something that makes you happy every day is a start. And there shouldn't be a finish.

Hang in there, bad times don't last. Although when they're happening it sometimes seems like there's no end in sight. But when it's over you'll appreciate the good times much more when they come along.

I am curious as to why you've moved so many times in such a short period though?

Thanks you're right, just a few days ago I was feeling like my streak of bad luck would never end, but now that I'm settled in everything seems alright again and I have quite the experience to look back on.

In short, I moved from my old dorm to a new one, unpacked and settled in then got reassigned to a different suite, found out that suite was infested with cockroaches (I nearly had a heart attack when one got into my suitcase :scared: ), decided to move out and got told I had 2 days or I wouldn't get my deposit back, found a place within 2 days and moved there, was ready to sign the contract when the landlord told me that someone "out-bid" me on rent and that unless I could also pay that amount I'd have to leave, and finally scoped out another place and decided to move there(where I'm living now).

Maybe I am missing some thing,

You are in a college dorm or your own apt?

Not at all. My early childhood was not fun. I'd be very happy to be 30 again, though. :haz:

I was going to say something like this, too. My early childhood was fine, but things started to go south when I was about twelve or thirteen. There are a lot of things between the start of my teen years and age 35 or so that I'm glad I don't ever have to live through again. There were a lot of great things that happened from my mid-20s onward, too, but there was enough life-altering tragedy in there that I don't ever want to have to go through again.

The popular dream of returning to one's childhood is, quite bluntly, a trap. Sure, children have fewer responsibilities, but they also have much less freedom and control over their lives.....especially if their homes are full of neglect and abuse.

One of the happiest moments of my life was when I realized that I could LEAVE my oppressive home and get my OWN home. Be it a dingy one-room apartment or whatever, it was MINE, and I could come and go as I pleased. I welcomed the responsibilities of being an adult. I especially welcomed the freedom. :ebert:

Well said. I'm extremely lucky to have had a normal childhood; not everyone gets that chance. Glad to hear you were able to leave your oppressive home and take control of your own life

When I started college, I was really excited to get out there and start working and living in a place of my own. Yeah it was a tiny, dingy dorm room but like you said, it was mine, and I absolutely loved and welcomed the freedom and independence. It was after living on my own for a year that I really started to appreciate/miss everything my mom has done for me, even the constant nagging haha

Currently I am renting a room in an apartment. I was living in a dorm before all this moving happened

I definitely do not have my shit together yet  It takes time to figure out what you want to do with your life. I guess for some people it comes naturally, but I'm still in the process of finding out. Don't overwhelm yourself, you'll get there but slowly.

And existential crises are a pain indeed, I get hit with one like once a week

Moving 4 times... insane!

You'll get through it Ms. Lemons, and it'll be something to reflect on in the future.

Thanks TOG! The most stressful part is over with, and I'm already looking back and laughing a little at this whole ordeal

Just saw this Lemonycake--glad things are better. :hug2:

to bad you don't live near utah--we have furniture that my wife is finally deciding we can get rid of.

I like my 48 year old self--but I would love to see the new star wars movie through 10 year old eyes.

Thank you :hug2:

That's too bad, I would've gladly taken them if I lived nearby. Good luck with the furniture ridding!

And the movie will be awesome regardless of how old you are

Great points DD! The sickness and exhaustion had gotten the better of me. My life has actually drastically improved since I moved out for college. Being an adult ain't all bad, yeah it comes with a lot of responsibilities and bills and taxes and whatnot but at the end of the day few things beats the feeling of being able to make my own decisions.

Lemony I'm 42 and I definitely do not have my shit together as it were. But every day is a new beginning. I'm always discovering things about being an adult.

At what point did you make the transition from Digital Son to Digital Man before you became Digital Dad?
