Just finished Die Another Day. It's better than it's predecessor, The World Is Not Enough. Still though, it's not good: weak villains & an uninspired laser as their big gun. Things I liked: Bond being imprisoned & tortured for a year plus, a few decent stunts, AND Halle Berry was as hot as she ever was. So it wasn't a total waste. However, it wasn't enough. Some crap lines, predictable unfunny innuendo, and a soundtrack I wasn't into keep it below average.

Grade: D+

Halle Berry saved the film!

She'd save any film.

Except Catwoman! :pussy:

Halle is a beautiful woman for sure. Not a fan of her acting. She has bad rhythm Nd timing IMO. "Do you know what happens when a toad is struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else." I know she didn't write that but the delivery of it makes it possibly the worst line in a movie ever.

It doesn't beat Zephrapm Cochran's line in Star Trek First Contact:

"So, you're all astronauts... on some kind of star trek?"

HAHA. One guy in the audience actually said "GROAN" out loud, it was funny as hell.

Honorable mention goes to Kevin Costner in Water World:

"Nothing's free in Water World!"

Hahahaha, so dumb,

Halle's is written by Joss Wheden so she gets more blame

Whedon wrote that? Thought David Hayter wrote the screenplay. Didn't know Whedon had any hand in the writing of X1 other than turning in a previous draft (that was booted).

BIG Bond fan here!!

I grew up watching all these films, and have all of them. It's hard for me to pick one fave, but in a pinch I will say The Spy Who Loved Me. I really feel like that's Roger Moore's best Bond film. So many great locations, sets, great bad guys (Jaws in particular), and a pretty darn hot Bond girl. Oh yeah, and that car/submarine thing!

A few underrated Bond films I'd like to give a nod to are For Your Eyes Only, which IMO is Moore's last great Bond film/convincing performance. By Octopussy and especially A View To A Kill, he was simply too old to pull of a physical role like Bond (he was 57/58 when A View To A Kill was released).

Licence To Kill I feel doesn't get mentioned enough in the Bond world. Timothy Dalton played a VERY gritty Bond, pretty damn close to what Ian Fleming's version in the books was. Also, the movie was VERY intense, kept quite a serious tone throughout the whole duration, probably one of the most, if not the, most violent movie in the series.

I have seen a few comments in this thread about the one sole film which George Lazenby played Bond, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. While his performance as Bond may not have been the greatest, I think as an overall package it is one of the best Bond films out of all of them. Great action scenes, the mountaintop scenes in Switzerland are breaktaking, also the storyline is very strong, and quite frankly, one of the most important out of the entire series. Bond's wife's death is something that affected him in quite a few movies afterwards.

I agree with most of this post. I didn't like OHMSS as much as you did, but it wasn't bad. That was Lazenby's first movie so he didn't do that bad, but I think they were trying to find someone who looked like Sean Connery. I guess Bond getting married is important, but it seemed out of character for him.

I love The Spy Who Loved Me but it wasn't my favorite Moore film, that one would be For Your Eyes Only and my reasoning is that it had a simple, cold war story line that was very plausible. Also, it had two of my favorite chase sequences in the whole franchise. When I first saw that movie in the theater with my dad, we were gearing ourselves up for an awesome high-speed car chase with the Lotus and then the car thief causes it to explode so he has to take the Citroen. That was classic. Also, it makes me want to go to Greece and go scuba diving. And it also has a reference to OHMSS at the beginning.

I bought the whole series in bluray about two years ago and I watched them all with my daughter from Dr. No to Skyfall It took us months to do it.

The Moore films were very entertaining.

Interesting trivia:Broccoli and Saltzman lost the rights to Thunderball so that's why another production company was able to make "Never say Never" which was sort of a remake. Sean Connery hated Broccoli for some reason so he was more than happy to make the film as sort of a diss to him.

Watch the video clip. At about 2:30 Carson asks, "Who played the first Bond villain?" Connery responds, "Cubby Broccoli"

The whole Kevin McClory drama is pretty interesting as well. He's the guy who sued Ian Flemming over the rights to Thunderball and the guy behind the remake Never Say Never Again. He actually has a cameo in the original Thunderball.

I also say the Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. (And Eva Green!).

I know what you all mean about the modern-era Bond movies being different...I don't care, though. Can't help it. That one is my favorite.

Le Chiffre in that movie is also possibly my favourite Bond villain.

I loved Casino Royale, even though it was so different from the other Bonds. And I'm with You Blue J. Eva was so damn hot in that film!

Indeed. ;)

It was the first with Daniel Craig cast as Bond, and I think he does a great job...and I think the differences in plot and pacing added to the allure of that movie.

So many excellent movies, how to choose just one??

From Russia With Love is my all time favorite, followed closely by Goldfinger and then by The Spy Who Loved Me. I still tend to think of Sean Connery and Roger Moore as the "real" James Bonds; I know I need to update myself- my mom is in her 80's and keeps telling me how good Skyfall is!

Least favorite- Live and Let Die (too much voodoo, not enough plot otherwise); and Moonraker (pretty boring and just stupid in some parts).

Skyfall is a good movie. But I think Craig's Casino Royale was better. That Quantum one was boring enough to make me fall asleep in the cinema. These new Bond flicks are really enjoyable but they still don't feel like James Bond to me. I'm ok with that though.

Yeah Quantum is a boring mess, and I agree modern Bond flicks are more or less like random action thrillers, they don't have that old school Bond magic, that aura, they're just modern spy movies packaged as Bond films. And since they're not based on Fleming's books anymore and the Cold War spy era is long gone it's not surprising.

"Quantum" suffered from a poor script that came out of the writer's strike. It was handicapped going into it.

Craig's "Casino Royale" is in my top 5 Bond flicks, maybe even top 3.

Maybe they'd be Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and 2006's Casino Royale. Yeah, I'll stick with that for now.

I didn't like any of the Brosnan flicks. That's where the franchise jumped the shark for me.

I saw the last two Brosnan Bond flicks last week and didn't like them. His first two I saw at the theatre but don't remember them at all.

You mean besides Roger Moore? ;)

When that was in the cinema I remember thinking it was great. It looks and sounds way date now.

This is Tula, AKA Caroline Cossey in the white bikini.

Slap enough money down and he'll do it again. He even somewhat says as much at the end of that article.

his biggest complaint seems to be having to look good all the time

Apparently Craig is done with Bond...

http://www.cnn.com/2...ames-bond-feat/

Not a huge fan of the Craig movies as far as Bond movies go. I like them, I just think they're a bit too serious and Craig isn't my favorite Bond. Still, I've grown to like him and the new moves. I'm really looking forward to the Spectre.
