Strong Beer!

WTF?

Has no one truly drank anything since my last post?

Anywell -- right now enjoying a Samuel Smith Old Brewery Tadcaster Oatmeal Stout.

Very good. In fact, the more I drink of it, the more I like it, thinking it might very well be worthy of the "Truly Outstanding Beers" thread.

Avast ye scurvy dog! that's one of my favorite brews! it's an old standby for me. it's "comfort food". Whenever I want a solid beer I can count on that I know will be good, I head for Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Right now, I'm enjoying a nice Sam Smith Imperial Stout. It's also very good and at 8.5% abv it packs a kick too biggrin.gif

Wow. That is a helluva strong beer.

You sure about that?

That is approaching wine level.

Victory Storm King Stout is 9.1% ABV. But that's nothing compared to Dogfish Head World Wide Stout (2000), which is a head-spinning 22.10% ABV! wacko.gif

HOLY SHIT sounds amazing, thanks for the link....but a sipping beer? F THAT! yes.gif

World Wide Stout comes in vintages...the year it was made is printed on the label. Usually when a beer is at least 10% ABV, they put the year on so people can cellar them -- the longer they sit, the better they taste. (You can't cellar any beer that's less than 7.00% ABV -- the higher alcohol content keeps it from spoiling.) The 2002 version of WW Stout is 23.04% ABV. Oh, and the cost of this drink-one-and-pass-out brew? $9.00 PER 12 OZ. BOTTLE (U.S.).

(BTW, I split these posts from the other thread because it seemed like a good topic on its own.)

Try this bad boy on for size... I like to call it  2.gif  Beer.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/sor64/luckylf10.jpg Lucky Lager Force Ten... and this aint no sippin swill.

Wow...nice shiny twist-off cap there, Lucky! laugh.gif

This is a malt liquor. To me, malt liquor = BLECH!!! The normal ones taste strong, so I'm sure this 10.00% ABV stuff must taste like pure gasoline! I don't mean to bust on your suds there, Spirit...but I will anyway. tongue.gif (To each his own, of course wink.gif )

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that 12.5% is as strong anything can be naturally fermented. I believe that at that point the alcohol level kills the yeast and the process stops. There are second fermentations and such but this just diminishes the quality of the brew. And malt liquor!!?? 062802puke_prv.gif That's just artificial flavoring with moonshine added. If you just want to see how drunk you can get for the least money, go for it. As for me and my family, if it don't taste good, I ain't drinking it!

Sam Adams has brewed a couple very strong beers. Their most recent was Utopias MMII at 24% I believe. The Germans recently topped that with a beer that is 25.4%.
