I cannot for the life of my understand how Clockwork Angels has more votes than Hold Your Fire. There's just no figuring life out. I think the answer is quite obvious. On the one hand, you have Hold Your Fire. Rush are stretching themselves, it's the Hemispheres of the 80s, Alex is fulfilling his new role in the band in the most creative way possible; his arpeggios have never been better, and his chord structures are as inventive as ever. It also features some of Geddy's best vocals (Time Stand Still, High Water, Lock and Key) and some of Neils best lyrics (Prime Mover, TSS, Open Secrets) and drumming (Mission, Turn the Page, Lock and Key). Then you have Clockwork Angels. An album who's production can only be accurately described as a "wall of molten shit". That's my main issue with the album, I still love most of the tracks themselves. However, Alex and Geddy are both trying too hard to rock on their respective instruments, Neil on the other hand doesn't seem to be trying hard enough. Neil is clearly struggling to write lyrics in the flowing manner he once did, and Geddy struggles even more to fit them into a song.
