bluefox4000
Go peddle your Presto nonsense somewhere else. This thread is for the righteous and it has no place for your bloodless pop record. Get off my hemisphere. This is battle of heart and mind - serious business. Take your boys and girls together and paint some other mirror black. Go wave your magic wand at someone who cares. You and your sun dogs. This is what a slavish mind-controlled Hemipsheres lover sounds like. They have no will of their own. Also reminds me of what CA fans sound like. don't know if you are one......but they soound similar Mick It's a very good album. Sold 8 at least. I don't go "ga ga" over it though. About on part with Counterparts. I give it a seven. Used to be a nine. It is a little over generous for me to give it a seven... But Counterparts has the advantage of much better production over CA. I'll give CP that. wonderful polish on that turd. Mick I thought a turd couldn't be polished? well they managed it, lol Mick

savagegrace26
I'm going back to the "cheese". I got into Rush in 1996. Listened to Chronicles. Brought a few albums. Saw them on the T4E tour. I liked Tai Shan immediately and actually was hoping they played it on that tour (seriously). I didn't hear all of this negativity about Presto (actually any Presto review I read at that time was a positive review). Counterparts was one of the albums that initially drew me into the band (although I disliked Speed of Love back then too). I didn't know what to make of Test for Echo initially, it just sounded strange. Anyway, they played Nobody's Hero and Virtuality on the tour as most know. So I liked Tai Shan and was exposed to all of these "cheesy" things that Rush did - weird Roll the Bones rap, weird voice in Double Agent, songs about tasting fingers and lips, and differences in peoples sexuality, and electing each other president as well as being a reactionary running dog revisionist...and not to mention that song about burying bones and tails between ears. So that was all part of who Rush were to me. I listened to all of their albums and I heard a similar amount of "cheesy" stuff on their older albums too - trees fighting each other, being in a twilight zone, goin' bald, planets drifting in their orbits, milk and honeydew - it was similar yet different - all of it. I guess it's different for people who grew up with the band. You went through the 70's and 80's with all of the "cheesy" styles and things that went on during those times, you know what I mean. The "ponts" and weird hair styles and all of that stuff, music that was "cool" at the time but when looked at it retroactively it was definitely "cheesy", Same with Rush. The "cheese" was always there, you may just not have noticed it because YOU were a part of that "cheesiness" and maybe it jumps out to you more with the later stuff because you grew with the times and the prexisting "cheesiness" was just something you were used to. Rush has always had the elements of "cheese", but maybe back then you were too "cool" to see it. Edited December 16, 2014 by savagegrace26
