Speed Of Love: Why No Love (

Seriously, though, I need to be on that list. It's just a thing with me. When I'm on a list, and then I get kicked off of it, it really messes me up.

You have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as well?

No. Yes. No. No. Yes. No. No. No.

Gotta take the kids to the park. But I'll be back later if I change my mind again.

What time is it where you are?

Like . . . now? Or, like, when I posted that last one? It's all relative. Um...I think we took the kids out at 8:00 and it's 9:47 now. And now it's 10:16 and Between Sun and Moon is playing. After that it's Alien Shore. And then . . . my favorite: The Speed of Love. I can't wait. And when it starts, I hope it will last forever. In fact, once I heard it, I searched in vain for years for an extended mix of it. Because it's just over too soon. 5:03? That's not nearly long enough. A song like that should at least be longer than Xanadu. But I guess I just have to be satisfied with the 5 brief minutes that it caresses my ears. I just love to sit and analyze the lyrics. I love Neil's metaphors—the "electro-magnetic force" of love, that is just . . . so . . . like . . . scientific, or something? And I get it, too - you know how when two people are "attracted" to each other and there's that sort of magnetic, like drawing-towards each other? And it's electrical. You touch each other and it's just . . . ooh . . . shivery and electrical. So he's just so right about that. And word choices? Boy howdy!! "Radiance," that's just so . . . bright! I think this song should be taught in school. I think that Neil draws his inspiration from some deep literary wellsprings here. Just like Xanadu, you know, using the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. I think maybe Neil drew some inspiration from the famous poet, my uncle Mort. He had a long series of poems that related love to things in nature, like, um, magnets and electricity. And there was one that talked about how love was like a storm - that one really moved people. Anyway, the music! Right now, Alien Shore is playing and I'm getting that tingling anticipation, because I know Speed of Love is next!!!! You wanted to know what time it is? It's time for the most classic Rush song of all time and OH MY GOD IT'S STARTING!! I love that sort of doom-ducka-doom-ducka-doom thing that Geddy is playing on the bass. So sexy. And now the chorus. Those ringing chords. So inventive! And Neil is really killing! He's like all "ping ping ping ping" on that ride cymbal, and that tricksy beat, thump, bam, thump, bam, thump thump . . . and now that middle eight section: whoa! Funky! Just what I like about Rush, they always surprise you with something different, like keyboards that sound like pan flutes, or some bad ass rap thing (they're so street!). Wow. I'm just . . . wow. Wow. Wow. You know, even if you guys keep me off your little list, I won't even care, because you can't take this away from me. You just can't.

He is in the UK is why he was curious. I think when he asked it was after midnight there......

If I HAD to pick a clunker on Counterparts, it'd be this one. I don't think it's a bad song at all, but most of the other songs on the album are light years ahead of it.

No volunteers? How about you, Spaghets? You seem like a civic type of guy.

Volunteer for what? Actually sitting through "Speed of Suck?"

Sorry, the last time I did that, THIS popped up in my back yard:

http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1913335/thumbs/n-GIANT-HOLE-large300.jpg

Actually, when you think about it, that was rather fitting. A song THAT sh*tty HAD to come out of a hole THAT big just to contain the suckage.

A simple no would have sufficed.

No.

You KNOW when men say "no" they really mean "yes"...but sometimes "no"...depends I guess.

That poor dog can't even look it in the eye. :(

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAGAHAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGA

seriously man...so funneh!

Is that the Signals dog?.....

Yes. And her puppy.

I am rubbing off WAAAAAAAY too much on you lol lol lol lol...

Don't flatter yourself, lest she sit on your face.

Clue: not hot

Really, though, in all seriousness - though I doubt you'll believe me at this point - I think the song 's okay. It certainly doesn't blow me away, but it's a decent enough tune. Like I said earlier on, I just kind of felt like being a shit today. ;)

Yeah one of those i never feel the need to play on its own but when it comes on during a full album play i can appreciate a bit.

Been known to just skip it though. In fact i considered removing it from Cp playlist along with nobodys hero but decided against.

Not one of my favorites, Sorry, luv.

It's not a bad song, just not up to the standard they've created for themselves.

Sweet vindication..... My affection for Lorraine remains strong however :rose:

Segue should have included a poll so we could know who belongs to The Speed of Love Lovers Club.

Me

That makes six. Have I left anyone out?

KennyLee?...... :o

Sorry, Lorraine. Just read the whole thread (except Spaghetti whom I've blocked). I certainly should not be on the list. Now start a Losing It thread for a slower ballad and I'll jump in with both feet.

Just between you and I Kenny, Spaghetti actually has some interesting things to say and you may want to consider "unblocking" him and giving him another shot. His style may not be your cup of tea. Just say'in. Up to you brother..... :)

He has toned down the pottymouth a lot, which is nice.

Kenny, my apologies. I thought I remembered you liking the song.

Re: Spaghetti: The worst of it has been completely revolting, and some of it has been downright cruel (I refer to remarks he made about a Rush tribute band's videos). If there is something in a post that is worth responding to, I will, but I don't think I've really ever found him that funny.

Having said that, I'll admit that I'm sure many of my attempts at humour have fallen flat, too.

No worries. Like I said, I don't hate it and I think it's an OK tune, I just don't think it's great.

They've really set their own bar really, really high.

I think we have set it higher than they have.

That is valid but let's face it, the wrote some of the greatest songs in music history (in my opinion). Anything less than great becomes average. You know?

Yes i know, and it isn't fair to them. We only let ourselves down.

Well, I don't expect it all to be on the level of their best but wow, between Hemispheres and Signals it just seemed like it all was. Talk about a hayday!

I know. I was just thinking the same thing as I am listening to The Weapon.

If they could do it again, they would. And they very well might. I have faith in them. Talent they have a-plenty.

I guess I don't expect them to be able to produce majestic Rush all the time. It's kind of cool in a way that they can give us occasional moments of what makes them unique; the rest of the time they offer just good songs (at worst the songs seem like inoffensive pop songs . . . no, at worst there's Roll the Bones). I'm pretty sure I'd still like the band well enough even if they hadn't freaked me green in the 70s.
