RushCanuck
I miss you John. RIP. They are playing his beautiful Christmas song often at this time of year, and it brings back memories of a great artist.I stopped by the Dakota building and the Strawberry Fields area of Central Park when I visited NYC a couple of years ago and it was a moving experience.
Presto-digitation
I've been to both as well, last Thanksgiving and the one before it as well. Moving indeed.
Finding IT
I have friends who live in Bancroft on 40 West 72nd just a few buildings down from the Dakota. They make it a point to be out of their condo today because the block is always nearly impassable on this day each year.
Fordgalaxy
Dimebag was assassinated this day as well. Very sad day for music. Not to be too pedantic, but he was not assassinated, he was murdered. He was famous, in hard rock/heavy metal circles but outside of that, I'd guess prior to his killing, very few people knew about him and he obviously wasn't a politician. OGr8imL84AD8inF8sBlackSedan
Slim Pickens passed on this day 30 years ago. Know there are lots of fans of him on TRF as well. May they all Rest in Peace.
OGr8imL84AD8inF8sBlackSedan
But the saddest, and quite possibly worst event to occur on this day. Nicki Minaj was born in '82. :boo hiss:
Lorraine
I remember that very well. My best friend had just died two weeks before. I woke up to the FM station I listened to and they announced the news. Immediately after that, they played the David Bowie song "Ashes to Ashes." It was a bad year. invisible airwave
I was only 2 months and 4 days old when that coward that I will not name assassinated him. As the liner notes on Tom Petty's 1981 (underrated) Hard Promises album read, "We miss you, JL."
