one80Srocker Posted September 8, 2013 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Too tough to actually list in order but to me Moving Pictures and 2112 are Rush's best. They nailed it again with Clockwork Angels. Rush has peaked for a third time in their career. My only trouble with Clockwork is that it hasn't stood the test of time with me simply because it is so new. A couple of my other favorites are Signals and Grace Under Pressure. My least favorite is Hold Your Fire. Next to that is Vapor Trails which has some songs that I really like alot but too many songs that didn't even make it to my I-Pod. Counterparts has some really great songs but there are a few songs on there that didn't make it to the I-Pod as well. I like Power Windows overall but it didn't have that edge and was lacking the drive. If you have ever heard the demo tape from Power Windows, you will hear what it sounds like in a much more raw form. It sounded much different and always made me wonder what that album could have been like had Terry Brown produced it. Snakes and Arrows had some great songs but also sounds kind of bland at times. I think Test For Echo is a great piece of work overall but not standing the test of time so much but great in its era. It's hard for me to place the first Rush album anywhere because it is pre-Neil. But it's consistent from start to finish and really rocks. Some of the songs on Fly By Night were written pre-Neil as well but combined with some of the other songs like By-Tor, and Neil's drum work, the album has a great balance, pure rock and it's more musically inclined. But definately compliments the first album well. I think I really liked the abstractness of Caress Of Steel and I think this album is very underrated. It is really difficult to place this album below some of the others but I also have to be in the mood for this one when I listen to it. I think next I would put A Farewell To Kings. I love the album from start to finish, I am just not as crazy about the sound. Roll The Bones and Presto I like very much but both could have been produced much better. I wish they would remix both of these like they did Vapor Trails. Hemispheres and Permanent Waves, both from the era when I think Rush sounded their best. It's hard to pick one over the other. Permanent Waves offers more variety of songs but I really loved the sound of Hemispheres. Well anyway here's my list.
